Pets are quite useful in PvE as they have bonuses added to them, and playing a R/Mo should be just fine.

Leaving Pre earlier has put you at a disadvantage and I'm assuming you're low on money and equipment, so the best thing for you is to play around the area and kill anything for money if you don't have enough saved for new armor, skills and runes.

I'd be glad to help you out, if you want.

I was in Kamadan when I saw a person advertising for something called screenshot models. I know what taking a screenshot is but this person was paying for what I'm guessing was peoples time to make specific screen shots. I asked them about it and they linked me to this page.

Maybe some of you have heard of it before? They're looking for specific armor and character looks for their pics, so I thought I'd try here and see if anyone was interested.

These are the current ones they're looking for.

I didn't get the sense of any type of scam so I thought posting here might help the person out in taking these new pics.

If it helps, their IGN is : Shimamiya Eiko (Posted with permission)

I used to ignore the gold sellers but it's gotten pretty bad as of late.

They spam the trade as well as the all chat in Kamadan, Embark and in Pre Searing. Not sure if they're anywhere else atm. The interesting part is that they wouldn't be there unless people were buying.

I never understood the idea of buying a game and in certain areas, paying someone else to play it for you.

Boreal station was the place I'm most likely to run when I actually did.

It's the shortest and usually the most reliable for getting a chest in the least amount of time. I did the last 600 or so chests to max my title there.

Hopefully this is interesting enough for people to want to share.

-Are you predominately a PvP or PvE player?

-Are you an altaholic? Multiple accounts?

-What is your favorite game to play in?

-Are you a META player or someone who prefers to mess around with builds?

-Do you start a new Prophecies character and go to post right away, or stay to reach 20 in pre to get the title? Do you keep a permanent pre character?

-Do you (or did you, lol) get a Droks run for better armor? Maybe you get a ferry to the docks in NF?

-Do you play through missions, or run through them as much as possible? Are you a speed clear player?

-Knowing you can safely party wipe in EotN dungeons, do you prefer the party wipe to res and play faster, or struggle to res one by one?

-Do you prefer doing missions and dungeons with or without cons?

-Are you always looking for a large guild to join, or perhaps you prefer to go it alone? Do you prefer to play with people you know or random players you meet online?

For myself, I can say that I'm strictly a PvE player with one account. I prefer standard builds because it's usually what a lot of other players are looking for, and it cuts down on time. (I play paragon so imba is almost always implied to be my build :P)

However when not in HM endgame areas, I'm quite lax about other players build choices... within reason!

Whenever I created a new character, I would usually take the slower route and build towards better armor. I did a Droks run once before though! Should also note that I now have a permanent pre character.

Even though I enjoy things to go smoothly in most cases, I enjoy the struggle occasionally. When I say struggle, I mean getting close to a party wipe and having a player retreat with a res, so that they can revive the rest of the group to push on. Even if I'm dead, I like watching people move around to get the players up one by one if need be, to see us overcome in the end.

Having a poorly built party that wipes all the time because of sub par tactics and builds doesn't count. It eats up massive amounts of time and I don't think anyone enjoys that lol.

I should also state that I'm pro PuG and not in an organized guild by choice.

I'm also the type who prefers to play through any area instead of running past it. Even though I'm completely ok with running through game content for others.

I am ok with or without cons depending on the teams make up. There are times where you just don't have a required class to fill a need, and cons will usually help with that.

I have never done a speed clear. Just no interest for me.

Prophecies is probably my favorite campaign to this day because of the variety of environments to choose from and explore.

So I've played the free version and I ended up enjoying it somewhat, and my original thoughts on the game weren't so favorable. Playable yes, but I couldn't give it an honest recommendation. My positives are now mainly based on the fact that I got a friend of mine and his wife to try it out as well. Playing through the core game gets a lot better when you know you can count on at least one or two others to be around. It is a social game after all!

So the question came up from the two of them as to whether or not I'd buy the HoT expansion and after some debate, I declined. There had been so many reasons before I even downloaded the core game... the lack of dual classes, the loss of build/weapon freedom, the guns and tech, no monks and imo, ignoring continuity for the sake of pushing game features.

Still there were a few nice things about it as well. Visuals were great as well as expansive environments and character creation. Escort quests were always neat and I actually enoyed the little heart quests.

So getting back to HoT, I had watched the original release announcement way back, and it cemented my resolve to not add money into the GW2 coffers. My first instinct was repulsion at the gliding... for several reasons. First off, it looks extremely jarring to me that a nine foot humanoid, clad it metal armor from head to toe, just casually jumps off ledges and goes sailing around. I know that it's "just a game" but those things matter to me. This is actually one of the core issues I have with GW2 itself. The second is what I already knew would follow... over the top cash shop items that I would describe as taking me out of the GW world.
You have gliders like the square clouds that look like they're from old SNES games you stand on, with your arms folded as you float down from somewhere, all the while hearing those annoying 8 bit sounds. It just completely ruins it for a person such as myself. The idea that the original founders of Arena Net spent time, money and effort to world build this really awesome series of games, then suddently seeing this cartoony stuff? Is a total buzzkill.

GW on the other hand seemed to be a little more grounded and consistent in it's handling of characters, story and settings, and that can be shown through their design of almost all of their armor and weapons throughout the classes during the original releases. Sure, you have glowing energy weapons and costume accessories here and there but imo, they're not done to an excess...

GW2 on the other hand has this over the top mentality for pretty much everything it does. Weapons are massively out of proportion for characters, and armor pieces jut out to ungodly lengths to a point of being absurd. Even attacks are over the top in some cases (whirlwind axe!) and that again, gets to the specifics of GW2. As the game has progressed, everything about it has been what I would define as out of character for Guild Wars and it's imo, increasingly gotten out of hand.

But to make matters worse Anet is still painting themselves into a corner with bad design and story choices. Add Spiderman style web shooting to their list with the new Living Story. And to make it even better, you have to earn these abilities to fully use the maps! I feel that these mechanics are also designed in a way as to not promote group play... gliding through maps on leylines solo and web shooting your way up to areas alone. Plus, some of these mechanics you have to work for are generally zone specific, so you're working towards something that has an extremely limited use and value. Unlike in GW when you'd see a siege devourer for example, where you just kill the enemy rider and take it. No skill training required, one and done!

In GW2, it's even gotten to a point where there's requests and now updates to disable sounds for weapons and items they've created, which was one of the reasons behind another issue.

Playing their open world events are a pretty cool thing to see but are a massive resource drain on your computer as the groups swell. This is compounded by the fact that no one at their studio had the foresight to see that continually adding showy lights and sounds to their unending cash shop items, would only make it worse. So no matter where you are, someone has something going that you and your pc, have to tolerate. I honestly don't expect that to ever improve.

There's one part in all of this that has me somewhat amused and that's their newest event, raiding. The gist of that being the teams are structured, players require structured builds and the event is instanced. This is the same with Dungeons and Fractals. Does that sound familiar to any GW players? :P

So I've looked through their recently leaked expansion 2 and I can't believe I'm going to say this but... it appears they've gotten a lot of it right, at least in the general sense. I'm about 90% sure that their storylines will not deliver based on the current events I've gone through.

Again, no respect for their own new continuity, or for the original.

I'll repeat once more, all of this is only my opinion.

So that was my scattered rant on why I won't support GW2.

For anyone who bothered to read this, why not post your reasons for either buying, or not buying the new game?

I'm sorry but everything you posted there has nothing to do with refuting my theory that the model is either based off the concept art, or is actually a scrapped Utopia model being reused for HoT. The form of the model, the bipedal digitigrade stance, the rider, the riders weapon, the number of claws on limbs are all solid reasons. If only one or even two of them were present, then sure it's reaching. But you have a very close model to the concept art with the exception of the head. The differences are cosmetic for the most part and as we all know concept art doesn't always represent the final product. The fact that there's still so many similarities to the concept is quite telling imo.

The artistic direction you're bringing up also has no relevance to the discussion. GW2 has a direction that leans to a WoW style of art with oversized shoulder pauldrons and sparkly weapons that I personally dislike. The practicality of the weapon has zero bearing on the fact that in the concept art the character is holding a lance and the GW2 character? Is holding a lance. That's the only fact one needs to focus on.

They possibly had an unused model from Utopia, or they wanted to create a mounted enemy and built it. The one they built shares a majority of similarities with the concept art. Nothing else to focus on.

As an aside, I get the impression that you're not fond of GW2, nor are you comfortable with people challenging you. You seem to use a hard line dismissal to hopefully end a debate in one fell swoop. The problem is that you never really addressed the specific points I was making and instead, went off on these long form explanations as to why you didn't agree or used odd reasons as to why you didn't see what I was seeing. I was hoping you'd tackle my points specifically instead of giving me sports examples with knitting and sleeping.

So if you'd just rather end it here, that's cool with me. It's not like either of us is going to win a prize.

I'm not ignoring the differences, I'm just pointing out that your points are superficial or cosmetic. I've given examples that GW models can and have been used multiple times and look drastically different.

It's very strange that you can't see that the images are both bipedal, digitigrade creatures with similar body forms and a rider with the same types of weapons. I'll have to repeat what I said before, that the differences you mentioned aren't relevant. Saying they're not the same because of skin type or a different weapon held by the rider, doesn't negate the idea that this could entirely be a Utopia model or design that was later used for GW2.

It's puzzling how you see them as so far apart that the idea isn't feasible.

The skin of the model isn't relevant to the comparison because that's a choice made by the model builder that's suited to the content. I'm talking about the over all form of the creature, and how it's being ridden.

The heads aren't remotely similar and I mentioned that but again, not really relevant. I'm stating that they altered it to suit the needs of the game the way they altered the Mursaat and Charr models to fit the needs of the Destroyer characters.

The weapons aren't the same but they are lances. There's no sword I've even seen that has a grip the length of the one in the concept art, and the Mordrem cavalier clearly states it's a lance in the wiki. It's kind of hard to dismiss that.

The shoulders might be in slightly different positions as well as the legs because one of them is concept art, and the other is a practical game model. There's countless examples of art not turning out the way the finished product looks, but again, the form, the rider, and the weapon support my theory.

The expression of the creatures, the difference between looking like a good guy or bad guy, armor or any other surface texture is also not relevant to my theory that this was at some point, a GW Utopia design that's been repurposed.

I think it's also worth mentioning that daily Zaishen quests are helpful for finding players, because they gather in those spots throughout the day. It will also help you by building up money fairly quickly by cashing in the rewards.

As for picking up the other games, I'd recommend it if you're sure that you want to keep playing. People say the game is dead but pretty much every single day for at least a few hours a day, you can find others looking for people to play with easily. You can still find stragglers in the later hours. Plus, I'm sure people here would be happy to join you as well.

I was watching one of Wooden Potatoes videos (LOVE watching them!) and I noticed something familiar during his Glint video. Towards the end you see an enemy mounted on a creature, who is then defeated and falls off said mount. I paused the video then returned to the scene because I was sure I'd seen the creature before. It took me a minute or two but then it hit me, Utopia was said to have mounts. I Googled the image and sure enough, there it was. Tbh, there really wasn't a lot that was changed about it, and even the rider was using the same weapon in the original art.

    GW2%20Utopia%20Mount_zps1j2yeyua.jpg

The head is altered but the resemblance is pretty hard to dismiss. Stance of the creature, number of claws on limbs and a lance for the rider. Just how far did Utopia really get? Not only that, but the creature is a separate model from the rider. So I guess GW2 really does have a mount, lol.

I had no idea that minis dropped in WiK. I always thought you got all of them from Royal Gifts but just looking now, I see that two of them (Dorian and Isaiah) are from drops. But who or what drops them?

I can appreciate you having to keep quiet on whatever information you have, but try to look at it from the other side. Whatever it is you know... we don't. And I don't think the majority of us intend to be rude or to burn bridges but frustration does that.

It's hard to have the same enthusiasm we used to when we lost out on the Elona portion of GW Beyond, the Ranger and Paragon skill updates, as well as and rest of the Lunatic Court storyline. All for a game that is literally nothing like the original so many of us loved. Old news, I know.

@K A O S Theory I don't think we need to be thankful for them keeping the game running.
They're the ones who tied the HoM to it in the hopes to generate sales for their new game. If GW stops being profitable or useful to them? They'll close it pretty fast. Nothing personal, just business and it would suck but that's life and we move on.

Well it's nice to know they at least know of the forums.

And without saying anything specific, what's the reason behind your feelings that they haven't forgotten about us? I know that's a hard question to answer without giving details, but at least try. :P

Is the motivation behind this idea to get them to pay attention to GW again? Honest question here.

Other than that, I'm finding it difficult to see a valid reason to send anything to Anet. They'll get the chocolates, eat them (possibly taking pics doing so) then go back to working on the over priced train wreck that is GW2. That's been made clear even by this very forum.

That in and of itself, makes it very hard to get people motivated imo. We're being honest here and Anet only does things to profit. Anything people feel that was done above and beyond was nothing more than a business decision. That's neither good nor bad... just business.

So sure, it's easy enough to take up a collection and buy the chocolates but I feel it's the equivalent of sending them to your ex, who's already moved on to another person and has no intention of looking back. They just don't really mean anything, and nothing good would come of it.

I'll make it clear that I feel the intent was good hearted, but maybe not worth the effort? Do any of them even bother to look at this site?

    http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/heyjay101…ymh8zv.jpg.html[/img]

It still suffers from rpg syndrome
Id totally fight armies wearing that irl if i was a girl :P (this isnt an argument against gw1, all rpgs do this xD)

The models were simpler/less stylized in gw1 as in gw2 imo which makes them look cleaner, dont know if either is better, tbh i like gw2's art style/environment

That's actually what I was referring to when I said they weren't practical. Sure you could dress like a harem girl but it's not going to help protect you any. :)

Imo, the GW2 art style is too over the top as I've said before. Weapons and armor always end up looking cartoon like and completely impractical as you get into the higher armor sets, where people are walking around with crazy lightshows going off and weapons that are three feet wide and seven feet long. All glowing blades and sparkles that feels like it's for younger kids who are into shiny things. :P

Each to their own I suppose.

One example of a nice GW2 update was the Primeval armor.

It's not accurate but I played around with the color to try and make it look a little like the original. This to me is a good example of what an updated GW could've looked like. Too bad they didn't do the elite plate mail too.

Many times the models of GW1 are quite a lot more detailed compared to the models of GW2. - perhaps not in terms of polygons, but in details. Take for example the Fiery Dragon Sword - it looks a LOT better in GW1 and in GW2 it's simply cartoonish. The styles of the game don't blend at all.

I would have to disagree on some of the models looking less detailed but I absolutely agree on the cartoony aspect of so many of them. I think a lot of it stems from the proportions where you have these giant weapons almost the body length of heroes and shoulder pieces jutting out from armors that do in fact look comical. It feels very WoW/anime influenced.

Besides some of the assassin armors with the over abundance of blades, most of the armor in GW look feasible (if not practical), just with heavy detailing/ornamentation.

I know the odds of the game being updated are extremely slim but it's always nice to dream! :)

I actually gave my opinion on GW2 not too long ago.

    http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/100675-t…-player-on-gw2/

Anyone think it would be feasible that Guild Wars could be updated using the GW2 game engine?

Over the life of GW2, so many of the original character models have been remade (the Mursaat just recently) and if the trend continues, the majority of the work would be done without having to add extra manpower and resources. I'm not talking about updating GW to GW2 mechanics as I prefer the original style in every way, but a mini pet storage would be nice. :P

So is it a crazy idea? Would it make sense for them financially? Would it draw more of the GW2 crowd to the original, or maybe new players in general as a new game?
