Heroes Ascent players are requesting the bots go AFK in the Hall of Heroes (arena). I do not use, sell, or endorse botting
Recently, Heroes Ascent has seen the emergence of an aggressively efficient bot. This one leaves no Balthazar faction behind; but is ruining the experience for players. The issue is how they are currently scripted. First a couple acknowledgements:
- Heroes Ascent bots are necessary for the tournament structure to function, and for players to not get stuck waiting for a match after defeating the Zaishen
- Bot writers and bot users aren't necessarily the same people
- Writers often need to update scripts after a server maintenance build, and bot behaviour evolves over time
- Heroes Ascent can be a sh## show, with ganking and drama, but it is still a popular mode for both experienced and returning players
Until a recent script update, bots would farm each other all the way up to the Hall of Heroes arena before going dormant. Some would go passive in Courtyard and never even see Antechamber or HoH. This was good because:
- Real matches with players in the HoH were fair and uninterrupted
- Players didn't get stuck waiting for a match at the Zaishen
- Botters still got faction.
You might argue HoH was designed to be a 1v1v1, and you would be correct, but these bots are not programmed to win. They are programmed to farm faction for Zkeys. In HoH they run at the first monk they see, and kill everything that moves, for the duration of the match. They are sending it down mid-lane. Feeding. Int-ing. They are not running relics or capping zones as a real team would. Certain people might say that this adds another layer of complexity to the mode, but this is far from the general consensus.
So we now have bots in the Hall of Heroes which completely ruin the fun and integrity of otherwise enjoyable matches between real teams. This is especially shameful during double fame week, where the scene has frankly been popping off this year. I've heard reports of players returning after a decade plus to check out their favourite game mode.
I hope this message finds its way to the bot writers. We appreciate you keeping Heroes Ascent alive, but please revert the change, and make your bots go AFK in the Hall of Heroes arena.
