What is the state of Role-Playing in Guild Wars 1?

  • Hi all!

A number of months ago I started anew on a fresh account and have been loving playing Guild Wars occasionally and mindfully since. Where I used to play as a teenager to achieve certain goals, without actually looking around and reading any dialogue, I have found that it gives me great pleasure to do just that. I come to Guild Wars to escape into a different world for an evening, and care much more about the way everything looks, feels, sounds, and progressing through the game by following the story instead of obsessively ticking off boxes.

That being said, I was wondering about the state of roleplaying in Guild Wars 1. RP has never really struck me as a large part of the community; chat for example seems to be very informal, the game feels more geared towards 'completionism'. As an adult, however, I have come to appreciate this aspect of gaming or games so much more than when I was younger and did not understand it at all. Especially with the current influx of new players and rediscovery by old-heads it seems that appreciation for the game as a whole is at a new peak. How large is the part of the player-base that is also into role-playing? i.e. creating their own story and also not breaking character in game. I might be interested in joining a guild or other group that is into just that.

TL;DR: are there any role-playing Guilds, Alliances, or other groups out there?

    See you!
