    This guide is intended to show an easy and highly efficient route to 30/50 points in the Hall of Monuments. An absolute beginner can follow this, but don’t forget to make the official wiki your best friend. You can always ask for advice/help from your guild (don’t forget to join one!) and the GWGlobal Discord.

    The spoilers in this guide hide helpful details that aren’t strictly necessary to follow the main instructions. There is a more in-depth guide that carefully explains each step on Reddit.

    The majority of HoM points come from items that can be bought from players. As such, you should prepare yourself to do Zaishen daily quests and farm Nick gifts as soon as possible. Check out this guide for tips on Nick farming.

    1. Create an assassin in Factions and play through the primary questline on Shing Jea Island.

    Display Spoiler

    You can choose a different profession or campaign if you really want, but assassin is the most useful and Factions is the most convenient. Choosing differently will create a lot of unnecessary extra work for you.

    If you get confused on how the campaign progression works, click here for a quick guide.

    When you arrive in Seitung Harbor, purchase your first set of armor. If you do not have enough money, finish the pieces you lacked right after completing Zen Daijun.

    The general build you want to have is along the lines of this:

    OwBAMOMG2BDAAAOgAAAA

    Do not buy any other skills as you will need to buy quite a lot here soon. You can also get free skills from Instructor Ng in Shing Jea Monastery.

    2. Head to Eye of the North, unlocking M.O.X., Ogden Stonehealer, Vekk, and Gwen as heroes.

    Display Spoiler

    Do the quest Hero Tutorial from Burol Ironfist in Boreal Station. This will allow you to get some better daggers.

    You'll now have access to the Hall of Monuments, and can use your first Monumental Tapestry on Fellowship. Add M.O.X. to get a point - you'll now be at 4/50!

    3. Map back to Kaineng and continue the primary questline until you complete Nahpui Quarter.

    Display Spoiler

    This is just to become *Weh No Su* so you can buy skills from all professions for your heroes. You can use this guide to help build up your hero team.

    Grab a Shiro’s Return book from Anja or Gorani in Kaineng Center.

    Now is also a good time to do the quests Lost Treasure and An Unwelcome Guest, so you can get 30 more attribute points.

    4. Take the quest to get to Nightfall and follow the primary questline to complete the campaign.

    Display Spoiler

    At Sunspear Great Hall, grab a Night Falls book from Captain Ahkenchu.

    At Consulate Docks, take the quest All for One and One for Justice from Dinja and complete it to unlock the hero Olias. You'll need to get to Lion's Arch; do Chaos in Kryta from Guardsman Chienpo in Kaineng Center.

    When asked to choose between Master of Whispers and Margrid the Sly, choose MoW.

    At the "Heart or Mind" quests, do Garden in Danger.

    After completing Abaddon’s Gate, in the Throne of Secrets, accept all the quests so you can unlock the heroes, although the only really useful hero here is Norgu. Exchange your Book of Secrets with the Keeper of the Spear for a Spirit of the Forgotten.

    Map to Chantry of Secrets, speak to Guardian of Whispers, type /kneel while standing in front of The Goddess of Truth, and speak to Seer of Truth to gain access to Gate of Anguish. Take the quest Finding a Purpose from Chaplain Phyratyss and complete it to unlock the hero Razah.

    Add Eternal Hero of Elona to the Honor monument in HoM for another 2 points - you’ll now be at 6/50.

    5. Return to Eye of the North, grab a Hero's Handbook from Gedrel of Ascalon, and start following the primary questlines, starting with Northern Allies. Continue with The Knowledgeable Asura and The Missing Vanguard, and then finish Eye of the North.

    Display Spoiler

    You can save a lot of time here by getting an Eye of the North tour. This is where another player runs to all the outposts in Eye of the North while you sit in the party and leech, unlocking all those outposts for you. Unfortunately, this service can be very expensive; unless you're lucky enough to have a friend or guild member do it for free, you may be better off walking.

    Turn in your full Hero's Handbook to Lexx in Rata Sum.

    There are a couple of side quests worth doing: Service: Practice, Dummy, The Cipher of Grenth, and Cold as Ice to learn some strong skills, and The Norn Fighting Tournament to unlock the hero Xandra.

    6. Return to Factions and continue the campaign. After Sunjiang District, follow the Kurzick questline. Complete The Beak of Darkness and charm a Black Moa; add it to HoM before releasing it.

    Display Spoiler

    When you reach Unwaking Waters, you should be able to finish setting up your hero team. If this requires accessing any more areas, go ahead and do that; you'll be completing all the campaigns eventually anyway.

    You’ll now be at 8/50.

    8. Charm a Black Widow, add it to HoM, and release it. If you’ve already earned enough money to afford Elite Imperial armor, now is a good time to finish Factions and charm a Phoenix. Otherwise, just do that later, when you have plenty of money.

    Display Spoiler

    Armor sets don't need the headpiece to be placed in HoM, so don't waste any money on that.

    Exchange your Amulet of the Mists with the Adept of Shadows for Ceremonial Daggers.

    If you don’t want to drag the phoenix around with you to gain experience, you can death level it in the Zaishen Menagerie.

    You’ll now be at 11/50.

    9. Return to Prophecies and complete the campaign, making sure to get your armor infused along the way.

    Display Spoiler

    You can either grab The Flameseeker Prophecies and follow the questline from Lion’s Arch or travel directly to Iron Mines of Moladune and proceed from there.

    If you want to play the campaigns in the order they were released, you'd better not have touched Guild Wars 2 yet you can play through Prophecies sooner, but it will be much slower without heroes. The storylines of each campaign are not connected directly anyway, so leaving Prophecies until last is not going to impact your enjoyment of the story.

    10. Complete War in Kryta and Hearts of the North. Repeat Auspicious Beginnings until you have rank 5 in the Vanguard title. Use your Medals of Honor to acquire 2 different Oppressor weapons.

    Display Spoiler

    If you don’t have enough medals, trade in some of your War Supplies. The rest of your War Supplies can be sold to players.

    You’ll now be at 13/50.

    11. Return to Factions and follow the Luxon questline.

    When you have completed Gyala Hatchery, make sure you got Master’s reward on all 13 missions in Factions. You’ll need to go back and repeat any you didn’t get Master’s for.

    12. Grab a Hard Mode Hero’s Handbook and do Curse of the Nornbear, A Gate Too Far, and Blood Washes Blood in Hard Mode before turning in the book to Tyr the Skaald in Gunnar's Hold. Farm vaettirs until you have rank 5 in the Norn title.

    Display Spoiler

    Try to not die, so you can get the Legendary Survivor title. You can make this easier by saving all your storybooks until you are close to maxing Survivor, and then turning them all in to get enough experience to finish the title.

    If possible, aim to do your vaettir farming during a festival event when special items will be dropping. These can be sold to players, along with any gold items you get, making the farm much more profitable.

    You’ll now be at 16/50.

    13. Farm armor upgrades for 15 different heroes.

    Display Spoiler

    The easiest places to do this are Dajkah Inlet, Remains of Sahlahja, and Glint’s Challenge. Bear in mind that each armor piece won't fit all heroes.

    You’ll now be at 18/50.

    14. Buy 1 unique (green), 1 rare (gold), and 28 more undedicated miniatures from players.

    Display Spoiler

    You’ll now be at 24/50.

    15. Craft 3 different Destroyer weapons, Asuran armor, Monument armor, Norn armor, and either Elite Kurzick or Elite Luxon armor.

    Display Spoiler

    If you are lucky or patient enough to be around during Wayfarer's Reverie, you can complete the quests to get a Reverie Gift, which gives a Tormented weapon. This will allow you to craft one less Destroyer weapon, and instead of Elite Kurzick/Luxon, Elite Canthan armor. Overall, this will save you almost 100,000 gold.

    You’re done!

    ESurge is still amazing in Arachni's - even if there weren't plenty of high energy targets (which there are), there are so many mobs that it's essentially impossible to drain them all. You also definitely want the Mistrust against all that Snaring Web.

    Invoke

    In the handful of areas with very few available corpses or extreme counters to minions (e.g. Ooze Pit), you can replace the MM with another elementalist:

    [build=OgljgwMpZOAalm3IcYMq37YcM]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Air Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Energy Storage

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    2x Rune of Vitae

    5x Survivor Insignia

    40/40 Air Magic set

    Koss

    In Venta Cemetery and Jennur's Horde, replace the MM with Koss. This build also works fine for Chahbek Village.

    [build=OQATERqW5htwVQsAGDDPZqJAA]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Tactics on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Strength

    Rune of Minor Swordsmanship

    Rune of Superior Absorption

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    5x Brawler's Insignia

    a Vampiric Sword of Fortitude with "Strength and Honor" inscription and Aegis of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh are great, but realistically it's probably too much effort to equip Koss beyond the basic runes, so you can just steal Jora's weapons - they are better than his.

    Margrid the Sly

    In Pogahn Passage and Dasha Vestibule, replace the BSurge with Margrid.

    [build=OgUTI4BjnxnmD6BmuMwFA5IAA]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Minor Wilderness Survival on the headpiece

    3x Rune of Attunement

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    5x Radiant Insignia

    Insightful Staff of Fortitude with "Hale and Hearty" inscription... or just give her a random staff or keep her crappy longbow.

    General Morgahn

    In Ruins of Morah, replace the MM with Morgahn. Don't forget to set him to Guard Guard mode so he doesn't run around getting extra aggro. Bring Spoil Victor on the necro BiP.

    [build=OQSkQglo5imj7+Oojtwj4asPGHD]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Command on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Leadership

    Rune of Minor Spear Mastery

    Rune of Attunement

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    5x Radiant Insignia

    Furious Spear of Enchanting with "I have the power!" inscription and Stygian Defender

    Dunkoro/Tahlkora

    In Blacktide Den, Consulate Docks, Moddok Crevice, Grand Court of Sebelkeh, and Gate of Pain, replace the BSurge with the appropriate monk hero.

    [build=OwAT04nB3xLuRm+3N/xddlspB]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Healing Prayers on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Divine Favor

    Rune of Minor Protection Prayers

    Rune of Attunement

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    5x Radiant Insignia

    Adept Healing Staff of Enchanting with "Aptitude Not Attitude" inscription

    Melonni

    ComingSoon™! In the meantime, this build is pretty okay:

    [build=OgCjkqrMLOfbzL3XczeFwjXnL]

    6-man

    In 6-man areas, kick the MM and BSurge/SoS. Change the ST to this:

    [build=OAmjAykpZOYTrX48xBNtm7YnJ]

    As a caster player, you can replace the BiP's Blood Bond with Soothing Memories.

    4-man

    For 4-man, BiP support becomes much less effective, so it is highly recommended to run a different team there.

    This is a balanced setup for use with any player build. It provides very strong spikes and decent ability to push kills thanks to a mesmer midline. Blood is Power is used to consolidate the energy management of the team, freeing up skill slots to be used for more offense and support.

    Note that this team is intended to comfortably and efficiently complete missions, dungeons, and vanquishes - for elite areas, it is highly recommended to modify the builds. It's assumed that you won't be relying on any consumables, but of course it will only make the team stronger if you do pop them. This team does not require any mercenary heroes or Zei Ri. If you have those, it's worth making considerable improvements (specifically, adding more mesmers).

    Any build will work for the player, but it should ideally be focused on DPS. The heroes provide the necessary shutdown and support for most areas of the game. BiP means that you needn't rely on your own energy management, but remember that it's not infinite free energy, and AI won't use it on a martial profession wielding a martial weapon (so if you're a sin, derv, warr, para, or ranger, swap to a staff to get a BiP).

    Since these heroes have no source of Deep Wound, such a skill can be a valuable addition to the player bar.

    Set all the heroes to Guard Guard mode.

    ESurge 1

    [build=OQhkAsC8gFKzJIHM9MdDBcaG4iB]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Domination Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Major Fast Casting

    Rune of Minor Inspiration Magic

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    Rune of Attunement

    5x Radiant Insignia

    40/40 Domination Magic set

    If you are using a ranged player build and want a counter for annoying AoE hexes, you can drop Shatter Hex for Hex Eater Signet.

    ESurge 2

    [build=OQhkAsC8gFKyJkDTvpPEERGcx]

    Swap in Panic for really difficult areas/quests that may need more enemy shutdown. (DoA/UW/WoC for example)

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Domination Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Major Fast Casting

    Rune of Minor Inspiration Magic

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    Rune of Attunement

    5x Radiant Insignia

    40/40 Domination Magic set

    ESurge 3

    [build=OQhDArwjNngcw0z0NEICZAcK]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Domination Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Major Fast Casting

    Rune of Minor Inspiration Magic

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    Rune of Attunement

    5x Radiant Insignia

    40/40 Domination Magic set

    BiP Resto

    [build=OAhjYgEaIP3hq6QbcOMlmTOhH]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Major Blood Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Soul Reaping
    best Vigor rune you can afford

    2x Rune of Attunement

    5x Radiant Insignia

    40/40 Restoration Magic set is optimal, although the hero will be holding PwK the majority of the time, and the wand is unavailable from crafters.

    ST Ritualist

    [build=OASjQqg8BOYTrX48xBNtmOzPB]

    Micro the hero to place spirits ahead of dangerous encounters, where they won't get killed by the enemies, but still in spirit range of where your team will be.

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Communing on the headpiece

    Rune of Superior Spawning Power

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    2x Rune of Attunement

    5x Radiant Insignia

    Hale Staff of Fortitude with "Don't Think Twice" inscription - DO NOT be tempted to use a spear - this will cause the hero to run closer to enemies than the rest of the heroes due to lower range, and "Avoid Combat" may also cause it to run closer to enemies when trying to kite melee.

    If you are using a melee player build, replace Weaken Armor with Strength of Honor and put 8 points into Smiting Prayers. Hero AI does not use Strength of Honor intelligently, so you will have to disable the skill and order the hero to cast it on you.

    MM

    [build=OAljYkFsZSKgUBVVbh1Y8Y7YCA]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Death Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Soul Reaping

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    2x Rune of Attunement

    1x Bloodstained Insignia on head, gloves, or shoes

    4x Radiant Insignia

    40/40 Death Magic set

    For more damage, replace "Stand Your Ground!" with Putrid Explosion.

    BSurge (for caster player)

    Bring this hero if your build is based on casting spells and rarely auto-attacking.

    [build=OghjwgIaIPX1wBtIaOMlmTuqH]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Air Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Major Energy Storage

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    2x Rune of Vitae

    5x Survivor Insignia

    40/40 Restoration Magic set is optimal, although the hero will be holding PwK the majority of the time, and the wand is unavailable from crafters.

    budget SoS (for martial player)

    Bring this hero if your build is based on attacking (at range or in melee) rather than casting spells.

    [build=OAhkYUHU4Kyz10bixqqDTp5kzOA]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Soul Reaping on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Curses

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    2x Rune of Attunement

    5x Radiant Insignia

    40/40 Restoration Magic set is optimal, although the hero will be holding PwK the majority of the time, and the wand is unavailable from crafters.

    If you prefer more offensive power and have Strength of Honor on the ST, you can drop Enfeebling Blood for Weaken Armor.

    If you have a mercenary hero or have unlocked Zei Ri, you can upgrade to the premium version of the build:

    [build=OASkEuiM5cUz10bixWmDTp5kzOA]

    Equipment:

    Rune of Superior Channeling Magic on the headpiece

    Rune of Minor Restoration Magic

    Rune of Minor Spawning Power

    best Vigor rune you can afford

    Rune of Attunement

    5x Radiant Insignia

    40/40 Restoration Magic set is optimal, although the hero will be holding PwK the majority of the time, and the wand is unavailable from crafters.

    uh, I tried every single name (except Ar Valkyria, Squids Spirits, Angels and Ancient, Scyzon Hsu, and The Mopplechen, none of which exist apparently) and they were all offline... it's 9PM GMT what time are you guys usually active?

    Wow, yours appears remarkably different to how it showed up for me. My mesmer is very dark-skinned so the contrast is somehow varied. Anyway, I'm done with armour now - just need a wand and focus!

    My mesmer needs a couple more armour sets and wands and focus, but I'm not sure what to get! The main set is Elite Elegant (dyed purple) and Tormented 40/40, and I'm not a huge fan of anything else, so I need suggestions for interesting combos. I have a "purple, tormented" theme going on (bow, shield, and spear are Tormented, and everything that can be dyed is purple). Money is no object, and I'm down to add a festival hat to the combo if appropriate, although a blindfold might make more sense because of the colour... anyway, help me dress myself please!

    never felt good to me

    ...

    That's my personal preferance.

    ...

    it's not my style

    Well, I can't really argue with that =P

    Running illusion and dom on the same bar isn't that unusual, and you definitely don't need more than one BiP. Two BiPs eat up just as much health as one does, and you can maintain BiP on the entire party. The team needs a little bit of extra energy management (Soul Reaping, Boon of Creation, Arcane Conundrum, etc), but adding a second BiP does nothing at all.

    1. Okay, so Death Pact Signet vs Flesh of my Flesh isn't a big deal. However, your point about newly resurrected party members having no protection surely adds to the argument that DPS is dangerous.

    Imagine this scenario: the DPS mesmer dies (either to damage or the DPS trigger) - the ST is the only other one with a res, so it uses FoMF, and then also gets nuked. The mesmer is the only one who can res, so it does so. Unfortunately, it has fairly low health from the FoMF res, so the ST is left vulnerable again... and if it gets kill any time in the next 60 seconds, your team no longer has any res skills. Okay, so that whole situation is entirely hypothetical, but it seems likely to happen at least sometimes.

    Anyway, if you're going to bring 1 copy of FoMF and 1 copy of DPS, surely the skill with the longer cast time should go on the guy with Fast Casting..?

    2. Well, I would just bring Ineptitude, along with a bunch of stuff like Wandering Eye and Signet of Clumsiness. AoE damage and shutdown seems to make more sense than FIVE ESurges...

    I'm extremely wary of trusting the TB damage monitor for anything like this. Unless it's showing consistently (at least a few dozen tests) that the heroes with Empathy are doing significantly more damage than those without, the data isn't very meaningful.

    3. Sure, I guess it's plausible that if you focus on WoC, you want all that enchantment removal (and even more??), but for the base team it would make more sense to take out about 4 of them and either put in other skills *cough* POWER SPIKE *cough* or leave them blank so people know they're optional slots, and are actually encouraged to do as you say and adjust the builds for the area.

    4. BiP is excellent; I bring it for almost everything. There's a reason for that, though: it allows me and my heroes to drop almost all energy management to focus on actual output. You haven't done that, so BiP is wasted.

    5. Well, a good way to fill those bars without resorting to Aneurysm and Spiritual Pain is Illusion Magic. You don't need the Inspiration split, and you don't need all 5 heroes to be running ESurge, so why not bring some Wandering Eye?
