This guide is intended to show an easy and highly efficient route to 30/50 points in the Hall of Monuments. An absolute beginner can follow this, but don’t forget to make the official wiki your best friend. You can always ask for advice/help from your guild (don’t forget to join one!) and the GWGlobal Discord.
The spoilers in this guide hide helpful details that aren’t strictly necessary to follow the main instructions. There is a more in-depth guide that carefully explains each step on Reddit.
The majority of HoM points come from items that can be bought from players. As such, you should prepare yourself to do Zaishen daily quests and farm Nick gifts as soon as possible. Check out this guide for tips on Nick farming.
1. Create an assassin in Factions and play through the primary questline on Shing Jea Island.
Display Spoiler
You can choose a different profession or campaign if you really want, but assassin is the most useful and Factions is the most convenient. Choosing differently will create a lot of unnecessary extra work for you.
If you get confused on how the campaign progression works, click here for a quick guide.
When you arrive in Seitung Harbor, purchase your first set of armor. If you do not have enough money, finish the pieces you lacked right after completing Zen Daijun.
The general build you want to have is along the lines of this:
OwBAMOMG2BDAAAOgAAAA
Do not buy any other skills as you will need to buy quite a lot here soon. You can also get free skills from Instructor Ng in Shing Jea Monastery.
2. Head to Eye of the North, unlocking M.O.X., Ogden Stonehealer, Vekk, and Gwen as heroes.
Display Spoiler
Do the quest Hero Tutorial from Burol Ironfist in Boreal Station. This will allow you to get some better daggers.
You'll now have access to the Hall of Monuments, and can use your first Monumental Tapestry on Fellowship. Add M.O.X. to get a point - you'll now be at 4/50!
3. Map back to Kaineng and continue the primary questline until you complete Nahpui Quarter.
Display Spoiler
This is just to become *Weh No Su* so you can buy skills from all professions for your heroes. You can use this guide to help build up your hero team.
Grab a Shiro’s Return book from Anja or Gorani in Kaineng Center.
Now is also a good time to do the quests Lost Treasure and An Unwelcome Guest, so you can get 30 more attribute points.
4. Take the quest to get to Nightfall and follow the primary questline to complete the campaign.
Display Spoiler
At Sunspear Great Hall, grab a Night Falls book from Captain Ahkenchu.
At Consulate Docks, take the quest All for One and One for Justice from Dinja and complete it to unlock the hero Olias. You'll need to get to Lion's Arch; do Chaos in Kryta from Guardsman Chienpo in Kaineng Center.
When asked to choose between Master of Whispers and Margrid the Sly, choose MoW.
At the "Heart or Mind" quests, do Garden in Danger.
After completing Abaddon’s Gate, in the Throne of Secrets, accept all the quests so you can unlock the heroes, although the only really useful hero here is Norgu. Exchange your Book of Secrets with the Keeper of the Spear for a Spirit of the Forgotten.
Map to Chantry of Secrets, speak to Guardian of Whispers, type /kneel while standing in front of The Goddess of Truth, and speak to Seer of Truth to gain access to Gate of Anguish. Take the quest Finding a Purpose from Chaplain Phyratyss and complete it to unlock the hero Razah.
Add Eternal Hero of Elona to the Honor monument in HoM for another 2 points - you’ll now be at 6/50.
5. Return to Eye of the North, grab a Hero's Handbook from Gedrel of Ascalon, and start following the primary questlines, starting with Northern Allies. Continue with The Knowledgeable Asura and The Missing Vanguard, and then finish Eye of the North.
Display Spoiler
You can save a lot of time here by getting an Eye of the North tour. This is where another player runs to all the outposts in Eye of the North while you sit in the party and leech, unlocking all those outposts for you. Unfortunately, this service can be very expensive; unless you're lucky enough to have a friend or guild member do it for free, you may be better off walking.
Turn in your full Hero's Handbook to Lexx in Rata Sum.
There are a couple of side quests worth doing: Service: Practice, Dummy, The Cipher of Grenth, and Cold as Ice to learn some strong skills, and The Norn Fighting Tournament to unlock the hero Xandra.
6. Return to Factions and continue the campaign. After Sunjiang District, follow the Kurzick questline. Complete The Beak of Darkness and charm a Black Moa; add it to HoM before releasing it.
Display Spoiler
When you reach Unwaking Waters, you should be able to finish setting up your hero team. If this requires accessing any more areas, go ahead and do that; you'll be completing all the campaigns eventually anyway.
You’ll now be at 8/50.
8. Charm a Black Widow, add it to HoM, and release it. If you’ve already earned enough money to afford Elite Imperial armor, now is a good time to finish Factions and charm a Phoenix. Otherwise, just do that later, when you have plenty of money.
Display Spoiler
Armor sets don't need the headpiece to be placed in HoM, so don't waste any money on that.
Exchange your Amulet of the Mists with the Adept of Shadows for Ceremonial Daggers.
If you don’t want to drag the phoenix around with you to gain experience, you can death level it in the Zaishen Menagerie.
You’ll now be at 11/50.
9. Return to Prophecies and complete the campaign, making sure to get your armor infused along the way.
Display Spoiler
You can either grab The Flameseeker Prophecies and follow the questline from Lion’s Arch or travel directly to Iron Mines of Moladune and proceed from there.
If you want to play the campaigns in the order they were released, you'd better not have touched Guild Wars 2 yet you can play through Prophecies sooner, but it will be much slower without heroes. The storylines of each campaign are not connected directly anyway, so leaving Prophecies until last is not going to impact your enjoyment of the story.
10. Complete War in Kryta and Hearts of the North. Repeat Auspicious Beginnings until you have rank 5 in the Vanguard title. Use your Medals of Honor to acquire 2 different Oppressor weapons.
Display Spoiler
If you don’t have enough medals, trade in some of your War Supplies. The rest of your War Supplies can be sold to players.
You’ll now be at 13/50.
11. Return to Factions and follow the Luxon questline.
When you have completed Gyala Hatchery, make sure you got Master’s reward on all 13 missions in Factions. You’ll need to go back and repeat any you didn’t get Master’s for.
12. Grab a Hard Mode Hero’s Handbook and do Curse of the Nornbear, A Gate Too Far, and Blood Washes Blood in Hard Mode before turning in the book to Tyr the Skaald in Gunnar's Hold. Farm vaettirs until you have rank 5 in the Norn title.
Display Spoiler
Try to not die, so you can get the Legendary Survivor title. You can make this easier by saving all your storybooks until you are close to maxing Survivor, and then turning them all in to get enough experience to finish the title.
If possible, aim to do your vaettir farming during a festival event when special items will be dropping. These can be sold to players, along with any gold items you get, making the farm much more profitable.
You’ll now be at 16/50.
13. Farm armor upgrades for 15 different heroes.
Display Spoiler
The easiest places to do this are Dajkah Inlet, Remains of Sahlahja, and Glint’s Challenge. Bear in mind that each armor piece won't fit all heroes.
You’ll now be at 18/50.
14. Buy 1 unique (green), 1 rare (gold), and 28 more undedicated miniatures from players.
Display Spoiler
You’ll now be at 24/50.
15. Craft 3 different Destroyer weapons, Asuran armor, Monument armor, Norn armor, and either Elite Kurzick or Elite Luxon armor.
Display Spoiler
If you are lucky or patient enough to be around during Wayfarer's Reverie, you can complete the quests to get a Reverie Gift, which gives a Tormented weapon. This will allow you to craft one less Destroyer weapon, and instead of Elite Kurzick/Luxon, Elite Canthan armor. Overall, this will save you almost 100,000 gold.
You’re done!
