What does "run out of guesses" mean? Is each game only running for a certain number of days or something?

The first game is a maximum of 20 guesses - if 20 days go by without anyone getting it, the prize will be added to the next game, and I'll grant an extra guess, so there'll be 21 guesses next time, and so on... assuming someone gets it before the time is up, next time you'll have one less guess, so if you got it in 13, for example, next time there'll be only 12 guesses.

To prevent an unnecessary load of posting it might be better to have questions not expire if unanswered.

Unfortunately that doesn't really work, because unanswered questions become less useful over time, e.g. if you ask "is it a warrior skill?" and I answer "is it a spell?" instead... well, if it is a spell, you know it's not a warrior skill for sure, so you would want your question to expire. That's an extreme example, but in almost all cases it's true.

I'm gonna start doing a forum contest where I give away a bunch of armbraces to the first person to guess the random GW skill I think of. I'll answer one "yes/no" question per day, either until someone guesses the skill or y'all run out of guesses. Example:

    Day 1
    (I randomly think of "Incoming!")
Misty: I'm thinking of a skill!
    Midget: is it Spiteful Spirit?
    Giant: is it a spell?
Medium: is it from a Prophecies profession?

    Day 2
(I randomly decide to answer Medium's question)
Misty: No, it is not from a Prophecies profession.
    Midget: is it Spiteful Spirit?
    Giant: is it a spell?
Medium: is it from a Nightfall profession?

    Day 3
(I randomly decide to answer Midget's question)
Misty: No, it's not Spiteful Spirit... although you should already have known that, since that's a necro skill =P
    Midget: is it Critical Defenses?
    Giant: is it a spell?!
Medium: is it from a Factions profession?

...and so it goes on, until someone gets it right, or you run out of guesses. The person who guesses correctly will win the prize, or if nobody got it, it'll be added to the prize for the next game. If someone was successful, I'll give you one less guess next time, but if nobody did, I'll allow one more guess.

I'll try to keep the rules brief and simple - if anything's not clear, ask and I'll try to clarify.

    1. All disputes about whether or not I answer a question "correctly" will be settled by the skill's wiki page (as of the revision on the day the game started) - if I make an actual mistake, I apologise in advance, and I'll give an armbrace to the first person to point it out.
    2. The skill will always be one that can be equipped in an outpost and pinged in a build.
    3. Questions must relate to the game itself, rather than the way players use the skills e.g. you can't ask if a skill is part of current SC meta, but you can ask if it existed when Factions was released.
    4. Questions cannot be multi-layered e.g. you can't ask "is it a Factions elite?" or "does it cost less than 10 energy and have less than 10 seconds recharge?"
    5. Each person can only ask one question per day - if you ask more than one, I'll ignore all but your first.
    6. I'll randomly answer one question each day, choosing from any valid questions that have been asked. If I don't answer your question, that doesn't mean the answer is "no", and you can ask it again the next day if you want.

Apparently not everyone knows how to do every role in DoASC, and it'd be nice if more people learned, so I made a handful of videos a while back, using up-to-date Golt tactics. There are no mouth words on these - just annotations explaining what to do. Maybe I'll make some more in the future with spoken instructions, if that would be appreciated...

The first one is for emo, which is essentially the same in all casual tactics I know of; even 3-3. This means that once you've watched this video, you should know how to do emo, no matter whom you run with.

This next one is for UA - again, these are the Golt tactics, but this monk build is not the same one used by all guilds. The main difference is having the monk bring Edge of Extinction instead of Arcane Echo; only a minor change, and otherwise the role is basically identical.

Next is a VoR (often known as the "caller") video, again using Golt tactics. I have Edge of Extinction in this run, which is typical for the VoR, but not always the case. The role is still almost the same in other 6-0 tactics, with the small exception that sometimes the VoR is required to talk to General Yendzarsh, meaning that you need to accept the quests in foundry.

a lot of seasoned players will probably know most of the tricks

Unless you're talking about general simple stuff like how to flag heroes or avoid aggroing patrols, I think you're overly optimistic. There is a startling amount of ignorance among people who have been playing the game for years - even the more skilled players can lack a lot of knowledge. With that in mind, please please please make sure anything you say in your guides is CORRECT. It's fair enough to miss something out, but presenting misinformation as authoritative is actually a real problem.

The Wajjun-Xaquang gate has only one thing in common with the Bukdek-Xaquang gate:
    1. they are not the same style
    2. if you stand right next to the Bukdek gate, you can see through to the other side... can't do that with the Xaquang one
    3. both gates can be glitched! =D

so yeah, if your Recall madness with Su works, great - I'd be lying if I said I truly understood the plan, but I look forward to seeing it on video

To have a comprehensive list might really help with what's possible in runs, for both factions and the other campaigns. Is it known why it's not possible to get into Unwaking Waters?

I can't promise a comprehensive list - there are hundreds of gates throughout the game, and most of them I have no idea about. I've only really tested a handful that can be exploited for mission records and stuff. I never tried Unwaking Waters, and I can't say for certain what the problem is, but I think it's something to do with the portal being right on the edge of the map.

I've got boreas to around 5:30 with a new gate clip method though. It involves using the reef lurkers to clip through in the first wave and flagging henchmen away. After clipping through and flagging them around a bit, they teleport onto the other side of the gate, in roughly the same amount of time as it takes to clear the first Luxon wave. From there I finish the mission as per usual. I think a solo build is impossible. I haven't routed that far, but I am guessing you'll only be around level 12 at the time and with subpar items, armor and a very limited skillpool, I don't THINK it's possible? It's probably still faster to wait for the henchmen. I haven't timed it but it probably only takes about 30 seconds or so to wait for them to clip through. Sometimes the teleport isn't clean and not all henchies get through and the others die to the remaining luxons in the arena area. If it happens to be the monk henchmen it's a bit of an issue.

Interesting! I didn't think that would be possible... I'm familiar with the gate glitch of course, but getting the henchies through too... I'd love to see a video of it if you have one.

As other question, if you know more of the gates, the only two ones I have in mind are the gate into Raisu Palace (pretty sure this gate is way too thick) and the gate into Xaquang Skyway from Wajjun Bazaar (rather than the one from Bukdek Byway). The one from Bukdek is really hard to run to Senji's corner solo, I haven't found a way as of yet. The other exit however just involves kiting around melee vermin.

Yeah you can forget about Raisu Palace. As for Wajjun-Xaquang, that doesn't look glitchable either, and even if it was, you would get completely destroyed by all the Am Fah. What's the problem with coming from Bukdek, anyway? You can just flag henchies into the groups, can't you?

the gate into Unwaking Waters isn't actually skippable. Came as a surprise ... It isn't in the list of know skippable gates

I did say you'd have a surprise =P if the list you're referring to is the one on the "Minion Trick" page on the wiki, that list isn't even remotely close to being complete. Maybe I'll update it a bit if I get some time.

    couple of questions for you:
    1. When you've finished your run, will you measure the total time in seconds with a video (well, several videos edited together since presumably you won't do it all in one sitting), or in minutes with /age?
    2. Are you planning to fight the Luxons in Boreas Seabed, or have you thought of a way to solo the kraken spawns as a necro?

aye, I've seen the other thread - I only responded to this one koz my question related directly to this thread's topic, but we've clearly digressed a lot xD

Assuming it's possible to get a good reef lurker spawn (I don't think it is), wouldn't you have to restart your entire run if you got an unfavourable spawn?
How does the minion trick work? Kill something, make a strong minion, bring it to the gate, sacrifice yourself to death, and then run from the shrine before the minion dies? Or trust a henchie to res you without stealing aggro? xD

well it might work, but I don't think reef lurkers spawn close enough to the gate, you can't aggro the Luxons koz you'll have no Kurzick faction, and the only other way I can think of to pull an enemy would be coin dropping, which I have to assume you're not doing... anyway, the real nuisance is that in order to test the gate, you'll need a character that hasn't already been to Unwaking Waters, or the gate will already be open

Yeah I'm not really suggesting it for a speed run, unless of course you adjusted your goal to include all 13 missions, but wanted to save time by skipping some of the quests. There aren't many reasons people would want a run to Arborstone, but sometimes they do request it, and I can include it as part of a Factions tour, which I do fairly often.

A "dialog hack" means using a third party injector to send dialog packets to NPCs that aren't currently offering that option. Examples would be taking quests from NPCs who won't talk to you because they're fighting, teleporting to Underworld reapers before they're been popped, crafting obsidian armor without completing the quests... or getting Attis to let you into Unwaking Waters. I'm definitely not suggesting you use this for your run, since it is most certainly cheating.

As for glitching through the gate, you might have an unpleasant surprise when you attempt that...

Surely to get into Unwaking Waters, you have to bring Togo with you as part of the quest? Are you using a dialog hack to get in??

To get into Arborstone and Altrumm Ruins early, leave Tanglewood Copse with more Luxon than Kurzick faction, and die anywhere you like - right outside the portal will do. You'll res in the middle of the map, from where you can run to either outpost. This doesn't allow you to skip Boreas Seabed, since you need to do Sunjiang District before you can get into House zu Heltzer the front way (then again, perhaps you can dialog that too). However, it does give you access to Kurzick areas without having to do the whole Luxon side or Tahnnakai Temple, which you might conceivably want to do.

sorry I should have specified - I meant a way to display the attributes of an entire build, like for this you have to mouse over each skill individually to see their attributes - I remember in old BBCode you could mouse over the profession symbols and it would tell you the attributes
    [build = OQYWgOFuu4Rx6FN9vANrfrYT7WA]

the attributes on the D/R are bad too... you need corn+egg+grail to meet the req on your bow, while 10 scythe mastery is far more than you need

...oh and even when the rit was still used in SoOSC, that build was wrong - Spirit Channeling is better energy management, and Ghostly Haste is more useful than pointless condition removal.

Really I was just wondering how you reconcile trading with the spirit of the rules you've imposed upon yourself. As I understand it, you've restricted yourself to zero interaction with other players. However, using the mat trader breaks this rule. What, in principle, is the difference between this and having a friend give you a load of equipment at the start?
