The poster above me is stuck in the 70s...They call "bell bottoms" flares and boot cut now, and I'm glad elephant bells didn't come back!
Long hair was never out for women, only for men for awhile (in favor of short spikes and mohawks...
)I am still quite comfortable in my Earth Shoes & Frye boots still though. (I had to get a new pair in early 2K, glad they still have the front lace ups!)

I noticed something odd...
Dye trader had a few white so I bought him out, I had some in storage too. I would sell him 5 so he would have white. Since he sells what players sell him I bought the whites back but he had 8 to sell. I did it a few times, i'd sell him 5 but there was always 8 available to buy back.
Maybe it doesn't apply to blacks, but, for white it seemed like he always had 1.5x the 5 I sold him (anet math rounds up ofc).
I didn't try selling him more than 5 or other colors, I wasn't that bored, but it seemed kinda odd how 5 sold to him was always 8 available to buy.
How many times did you try with the whites... and was it all in a one window period of time or off and on?
My logic and reasoning are getting itchy for an answer here.
I'm just wondering if maybe someone else was selling back at the very same time you were testing, creating more inventory.
Then, the game mechanics would only allow 8 to be sold to one individual to reduce the chance of another color crash.
From what I read earlier, it appears it took more than 1 individual buying to empty a color. (5 or 6 I think I read)
If that's the case, maybe it automatically wouldn't sell more than 8 to a single player.
If that's the case also, a single player could never achieve alone what happened above,
It's an Accute Dyespiracy Attack plain and simple! (Let's hope it never becomes chronic!)

It's happened a few times before that I can remember, and it's usually the Kamadan Dye Trader used to do it.
They generally make an offhand remark about shutting down the Dye Trader entirely (when prices are rock bottom)
They then proceed to start buying Blacks and Whites, after which they usually get bored and quit.
It will be interesting to see if they ever actually overcome their boredom and buy out the trader completely.

When the prices go very low, a bunch of jokers in Kamadan buy it out, trying to get the price to boost.
Then they either sell it to other players at an exorbitant rate, or wait for the price to raise and sell back to trader for the increase.
It's a seasonal thing....

Prophecies!
It's the Northern Shiverpeaks between Iron Horse Mine & Anvil Rock where it's snowing that I love the most.
There's something about the lighting there that brings on waves of nostalgia from my childhood holidays.
If I have nothing else to do in game, I often go there to farm, just to invoke that feeling.
It also has a rather cooling effect on hot and humid days!! (Like today, going farming!)
