Hello everybody - I've been waiting to write these words for a while now.
Remember the Guild Wars Guru Archive announcement from a few years back? While I made some initial progress, personal hurdles held things back. But here's the fantastic news: I started working on it again in April and I'm proud to be able to say that the remastered version of the archive is now available in Early Access - that means that people with the Supporter Rank (which means the users that have a paid subscription active on Guild Wars Legacy) are now able to test the archives. More about that later on.
The new Guild Wars Guru Archives aren't just a small update of the archives, but a complete rewrite of the archives - which was a massive undertaking. It's no longer a huge static HTML dump of Guild Wars Guru, but rather a user-friendly archive that has been built for the modern era. It is fast, fluid and works great on mobile devices.
This absolutely has been a passion project, so that we can preserve the incredible wealth of information and history that is stored within Guild Wars Guru. It has taken a lot of dedication and effort to remaster the archives (and I'll share more in depth information about it later), but I'm proud to finally be able to talk about this and allow access to the new Archives in the current test phase.
What to expect?
The remastered archives still won't be a perfect replica of Guild Wars Guru, but it houses almost all of the content that made Guild Wars Guru legendary. Currently, it contains almost 5 million posts in more than half a million threads, made by more than 100,000 users.
That's not yet all of the content stored in our current archive, but we are working on getting all of the content stored in our new archives.
So, what can you expect from the remastered version?
- Mobile-friendly design: the archives are now easily browseable on the go, from your laptop or your smartphones.
- A new design: the design isn't only mobile friendly, it's a new and modern re-imaginging of Guru.
- Working pagination: browsing threads is easier than before: pagination works, and dead links in the navigation are gone.
- Search functionality: this isn't there yet, but this is something that I'm looking into bringing to archives later on.
The test phase
The new and remastered archives are currently in an early access test - I'm confident enough that the archives work well, but there are still some issues to solve. However, in phase, I need feedback to further improve the archives.
Because of this, I made the decision to open up the archives to a small group of testers and it feels only fitting to first open it up to the people that support Guild Wars Legacy financially - there isn't a lot of you, but I can't thank you enough for all of your help.
The remastered archive is running on a seperate server for now, since there might be impact on Guild Wars Legacy during the testing phase should it run on the same server.
During the test phase, I'm gathering extra information on the server side which has an impact (but the information gathered is invaluable to me to improve the archives) - once I've collected enough information, I'll be able to disable the collection of this information and once some further fixes have been made, I can open up the archives for public use.
So if you want to access the new archives now, you can get a paid subscription to Guild Wars Legacy (at 3.99 EUR a month) and help support further development. Information (and how to get a paid subscription) can be found on our subscription page: https://guildwarslegacy.com/paid-subscription-list/. Users with an active paid subscription can find the link to go to the new archives in the Hall of Heroes section.
The remastered archives will open up for public usage at the end of this month or early next month, depending on the feedback/issues we find.
This has been a massive undertaking for me and I'm very happy to finally be able to share this with all of you. I hope that all of your are as excited about this as I am and I can't wait for the public access soon!

About the Author
Hello, I'm Iaerah (formerly known as Kevin - which is my real name), the Guild Wars Legacy admin.
The reason why I switched my name to Iaerah is mainly because Kevin is so generic, and if I ever want an NPC named after me in game, I'll need a more creative name
Joking aside, Iaerah is also my main in Guild Wars 2 (I know, I know, shoot me - but I enjoy both games. Just don't see GW2 as the sequel to GW1).
I'm not only the Guild Wars Legacy administrator but also the founder of it, together with some other great people like Richey (who runs the Guild Wars: A New Hope Facebook group) and Max Borken. I'm quite easy to contact and generally spoken I reply quite quickly, but I have a tendency to read my notifications and forgetting to respond. If that happens, feel free to send me a reminder.
You can contact me using the contact form on this site, you can send me a PM here or you can mail me on my Guild Wars Legacy email (hint: it's my real name @guildwarslegacy.com) and I'll get back to you as soon as I can (if I don't forget ;)).
In game, you can contact me on one of my two main accounts: my mains are either Leanna Goldwing or Inquisitor Karinda.
In general, don't be afraid to contact me!
Do you have an idea to improve Guild Wars Legacy, no matter how small it might be? Feel free to let me know!
