Falling back in love with Guild wars.

  • I remember being at a local Walmart looking through the PC games trying to find something to possibly replace our dungeon siege obsession as we had covered about every pixel in the game 10x over. I remember picking up a box with a cool looking chick on the front flipping it over to see if it was multiplayer and saw a cool warrior on the back then opening up the box and seeing that big bone dragon being shot by an archer. I was so excited to show my dad what I just found. I had it to him and he says, "guild wars, huh. This looks like something that would be fun to try". We walked out of there with 2 copies that day. We played for about 5 years and my mom even joined us around factions release.

Now I've always logged in collected bday gifts around my accounts bday time each year but never had the urge to play. Recently I just got back into guild wars 2 but it just felt like it was missing something and I wasn't feeling excited to play it again, I felt like I was forcing myself to do it. I fired up gw1 to collect my gift a couple weeks ago and saw the news about reforged and decided to try and run some stuff to see how it felt.... What a rush of just core memories! I mean now I'm 34 married with a baby and all sorts of just life struggles, responsibilities and joy. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't change a thing but... Seriously after working 10-12 hours putting our baby to bed and the wife turns in for the night... I fire up guild wars and it's like I'm back to 14 year old me not feeling tired or reasonable for anything for just a couple of hours in a totally different comfort winding down for a day.

    It's pretty fucking cool.

Do you remember when you got your copy and what was the game you was playing before switching?

  • We were still heavily into the Baldur's Gate series. and I remember my oldest son telling me about this cool new game called Guild Wars that he was positive I would love. At first, I played on his at-the-time unused account (major life changes left him with little time). Then I bought my own, and soon the whole family each had their own .... of each campaign as they released.

GW2 fell flat for me though I do have an account there and a few max levels ... only log in every now and then. I've already spent more time in GW just this week than in GW2 for all of the year!

  • I bought the game at launch in 2005. I never got past Piken Square because all my friends were playing World of Warcraft and dragged me away from Guild Wars. I only looked back once last year, but I was busy with other MMOs. Now it seems like a fresh start for me, and I just got my first character to Yaks Bend. The community here really has been great. Did my first group up with real players, and we had a blast. I hope people stick around this time, and we get more updates and hopefully new content. It is a great game and should be looked over by the devs.
