Let's have a friendly discussion on the functionality of currency in the current state of the game.

    1) Armbraces: Their function is to be traded for Tormented weapons. Their value comes from the fact that they are used for high end trades, or simply for those who want to save space by converting their other currencies into Armbraces. I don't see much of a demand for Tormented weapons these days, and most trades under 30a can be done with ectos or zkeys. To break it down even further, any trades under 175a could be done with Gold Z Coins. So the true value in Armbraces is only reserved for trades of over 175a, which are very few. Does this support the current demand for Armbraces? Are they accurately priced at 55-60e/ea? Or are people simply used to the fact that Armbraces are the highest end currency?

    2) Zkeys: Their function is to open the Z chest. With the exception of the rarest items (such as an Everlasting Beetlejuice tonic), Z chest drops have a very low value, so I highly doubt people are opening the chest to gamble; most open the chest for the title. What is it that is so enticing about the Z rank title? It serves no function other than an HoM statue, at rank 3. The title has become so devalued that it's not impressive to see people with a z 12 title. Often, people with such titles are accused of gold-buying or botting, which further devalues the title for the people who achieved it legitimately. Are Zkeys accurately priced in relation to Ecto? In relation to plat?

    3) Ectos: Their function is to craft Obsidian armor and Chaos gloves. Are crafting these items still important to the player-base nowadays? Occasionally an old player will log in and say "I've always wanted Obby," but are there enough Obby-seeking players out there to justify that Ecto is still being used as a currency? People are simply used to Ecto as a currency, as there is no real value to it anymore. It's simply not any more valuable than the craft materials used for Vabbian armor. In fact, I'd argue that it's the most common currency in the game now since so many people have stacks and stacks of it, and therefore is the least valuable material. Ectos have been on a downtrend in relation to plat for the past several years. Will it continue to go down in price?

    4) Z Coins: Their function is to be traded in for multiple items which serve a purpose, rather than cosmetic. I'd argue that these are the most highly functional currencies in game. Their sink is pretty big, with items like runes to expand your bags, heavy equipment packs, tomes, and more. Are they currently priced accurately? Why are they priced in ecto and not in plat? Why are they not used as a form of currency more often in place of ectos and arms? Will Silver and Gold Z coins replace them as a currency - or is the populace too attached to Ecto?

    5) Lockpicks: Their function is to open chests. Chest running serves two purposes - finding treasure, and filling a title track. I'd make the case that the reward for your return on chestrunning is much greater than opening the Z chests. For a much lower rate than a zkey, you get gold drops that you can sell unidentified, or ID them and sell the mods. You also have a chance of getting a nice skin, or an OS weapon or shield that can be sold on the market - No crème brulees here. I suppose it's up to the player if they value the Treasure Hunter title over the Z rank title. The Z rank title has the emote, but I personally find the treasure hunter title more prestigious, as the player more than likely worked for it. Also, the lockpick value is predetermined by the game. Lockpicks will always be stable and never fluctuate in price in relation to plat. Lockpicks are a very safe way to preserve your money as a hedge against inflation; sort of like precious metals IRL. It also seems to make more sense to me that people would use lockpicks as a currency over Ectos, when Lockpicks are much more stable.

    6) Gold: Their function is to buy lots of useful items from the Guild Wars NPCs; highly functional. The obvious issue with gold is that Guild Wars has a cap on how much gold one can carry, and therefore is not conducive to trades with other players valued over 100,000 gold.

Trades over 100 plat should theoretically be done with Lockpicks & Z Coins. I don't even see where Armbraces fit into the equation. They're not nearly as functional; but perhaps they're harder to farm and therefore considered more valuable. Many of the sellers of the super high end minis will not even accept Armbraces as trade anyhow. I certainly can't find anyone willing to take my Arms for their minis. So my Armbraces are in effect, worthless to me, since I only bought them to acquire the high end minis.

Disclaimer: I have no vested interest in Lockpicks or Z coins at the moment, as I've liquidated them all for Armbraces (which as you can see above, was not for investment purposes, but for the acquisition of high end minis).

I would like to here all of your thoughts!

Hi all, as most of you know, I've always been a strong advocate against bots, but it is not the intention of this thread to have a debate on botting, rather, I'm curious as to how much of a reduction in bots there has been since the update that happened around a month ago which reportedly killed a lot of bots.

I've heard that there are no bots in JQ, but there are still bots in HA. The Kamadan decltype bot has been down as well. What other information do you all have? Are PvE bots down? Are there still bots in GvG? The gold sellers are still up and running and I'm guessing they run a script of some sort to spam their messages.

If, indeed, there has been a mass reduction of bots, does this foreshadow that Arenanet will become more active in the game? Or do you suppose this is a "one and done" type-deal?

With Bill Freist leaving Arenanet, it feels to many of us that the lifeline from the Guild Wars community to the Guild Wars developers has been severed. I am considering writing an open letter to Arenanet petitioning them to address the Guild Wars community with the current state of the game, and the future for our humble game. I have a few questions in mind to ask them, but before I write the letter I would like to extend the opportunity to all of you to put forth some questions that you all would like answered. The idea is not to ask about a bunch of updates or "low-hanging fruit" items, but more so about what can we expect from Arenanet concerning the future of their first-born child, Guild Wars.

Please only positive comments. I realize plenty of people have come to believe and accept that "Arenanet will never do anything for GW1." While this may, in fact, be true, that type of discussion is not the intent of this thread.

Ok so you have a lot of low end stuff here. The funny thing about weapon mods, inscription and low-end minis is sometimes you can sell them for 1-2e each and other times you simply can't give them away. I've had people pay me several ecto for a common weapon mod and others scoff at anything more than 1k. Same with low-end minis, occasionally you can get away with selling white minis at 1 ecto a piece but for the most part you can't give them away. It's a matter of if you want to sit in Kamadan and wait for a buyer, or if you'd rather just merch/give away your stuff and go play the game. These prices reflect my personal experience, please use this only as a guide, if you think you can get more then by all means do so. Welcome back to the game!

Does anyone know of any new (as in 2019) or upcoming online games that create instances for your own party like Guild Wars & Path of Exile as opposed to shared open world instances like traditional MMO's?

I'm researching new online role-playing games and all that I come across are like traditional MMO's and I can't seem to find any that are closer to CORPG's.

Yoo, i've been trying to use this build on my dervish, and im running the skills you suggested. The problem im facing is that mystic healing seems like a wasted skill. Since all of the mesmer dont have an enchantment on them they will not recieve healing from mystic healing. And the mesmer seem to be the ones who get focussed most of the time. Sp what is the purpose of mystic healing? or what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

I wanted to take full advantage of the merc heroes I just bought so I decided to try out the Zway Merc Edition (5 Mesmers, 1 Rit, 1 Necro) with my player being a Derv Healer. I also fail to see how this bar is supposed to work. Mystic Healing is useless and the only heal on my bar is a touch skill. The rest of the skills are energy management and I'm not sure I need that considering I'm hardly casting anything.

I decided to try out the build on a simple Vanquish of Ice Cliff Chasms and I'm getting demolished. Now I do understand there is some micro-management for this build as far as hero placement and micro-ing some of the rit skills, but I didn't realize I would have to do that every single time I face a 4-5 enemy mob.

I've read your comments above regarding the hex and condition removal but I'm still struggling with that as well.

    What am I doing wrong???

Hello thanks for the response. I tried your suggestion and it worked. It's kind of lame that he's the only Polymock NPC that requires a quest. Apparently they wanted to keep it true to the lore, as the player does not have access to Doomlore Shrine (lorewise) until that quest is completed, which makes it difficult to farm Polymock pieces and Asuran summon skills across multiple characters!

So I've been playing polymock on multiple characters, but on one character it will not let me advance the quest chain. I just defeated Necromancer Volumandus and Grulhammer Silverfist, but Hoff will not give me the quest to fight Dune Teardrinker, and when I open dialogue with Dune Teardrinker he says I'm not strong enough. So I went back to all the other polymock NPC's to make sure I defeated them for the quest chain, and I did, as they will only play me using tournament rules.

Has anyone else had this problem? I tried switching districts, taking out any extra polymock pieces from my inventory, logging out and back in again. Nothing works, Hoff won't give me the quest and Dune Teardrinker won't fight me.

hey when did they add the material storage upgrade? Now you can have more than one stack in material storage!

Now if we can get them to fix the canthan finale mask drop--only need ONE lion mask, if I have 3 in my inventory (and am wearing one) why do I need yet another?????

This didn't work for me. I tried adding more than 1 stack of ecto and it wouldn't let me. Can anyone else confirm this?

Thanks for your contribution. I started the game right before the first wintersday event in 2005 I think, so it'd be great if someone had pictures from that time. At this time, the UI still had the old, greyish layout.

Meanwhile, I have found some interesting pics from the Beta (which I never played): https://www.resetera.com/threads/guild-…ge-heavy.77534/

Wow that link was amazing! Definitely worthwhile checking out, thanks for sharing.
