The program is working fine for me now, having used the a/m zip file from release 11. These are just a few things that I thought someone else might find useful.

The instruction video: How to use: GW Launcher

NB - the program icon appears in the task bar & is launched from there.

I chose not to use the “Apply .dat patch” option, as in the video the author makes it clear that it restricts some functions, at least at that time, 8 years ago.

If someone wants to comment as to if those types of issues still exist, that would be appreciated.

Because I’m not using the .dat patch, instead from the original Guild Wars game program folder, I copied the GW.exe & the GW.dat files & pasted them in the new folder created, into the same location which contains the GW Launcher.exe files.

As I only have 2 accounts, this is a simple way to give me the 2 paths to use, to launch the game on 2 different accounts at the same time.

Alternatively, instead of adding multiple accounts to the launcher, as long as you have entered one account with the original Guild Wars game program path, when that one is left as “Status Inactive”, you can choose “Launch Default GW Client” multiple times, to launch multiple instances of the game.

So to recapitulate, you followed the exact procedure : downloaded "GW_Launcher.exe" , created a new folder, put the exe in it, launched it with admin privilege (Right click Run as Administrator), you saw the 3 files being created (Settings.json, Accounts.json, d3d9.dll). Then you clicked the Exe again and nothing happened ?
You should at minimum see an icon in the right corner of your task bar (looking like a black helmet).

If you followed everything then it sure looks like a bug, if you have discord try contacting the devs on their server : https://discord.gg/xKZBPRfB

Sorry Oldschool, the problem I had was that in the last release, 16.11 there was no zip file to download. I did as you say, but all that resulted in was a media file. I didn't try with admin. though so...

I suppose I could go back & give it a try running as admin. but I'm happy with what I've got for now so...

The only reason I'm here now, is to add a few pointers that might help someone else in the same bind, if there is anyone. :/

Thank you Oldschool - that's what I had tried with the results a/m... :(

Now I've just come back to say that, after reading through all of the comments on the original video I found one that referred to the last zip file that person had found, which was with Release 11 & sure enough, there it is! GWLauncher.r11.zip  :)

So I'm going to give that a try & see what happens. From what I can see after checking a few releases after that one, there are just .exe files, no complete zip file, so just updates from then on I think, which is fine.

Hopefully, if I can get r11 up & running, then all of the updates will auto run & I'll have the latest version.

If you don't see me back here, then you'll know all is fine.

Thanks again for your input guys. o/

Sorry for bumping my own post, but just want to know before giving up on this.

The latest release is dated in February 2025, so I know the program is still valid & Windows 11 is pretty common now, so I'm guessing that's not the problem.

For what it's worth, before posting yesterday, I did try using the two .exe files, but they resulted in two media files, which I couldn't open. I also tried downloading the source code zip file to see if maybe there was something there I could use, but there wasn't, which is fine.

Don't hesitate to say if I'm being really dense, missing something obvious. I can take it! ;) Just a hint on where to start & I should be able to take it from there.

Also, if I can't use it, then any suggestions for alternatives that are safe to use & not against ToS, would be appreciated. Thanks again.

I have two Guild Wars accounts & play them on a laptop running Windows 11-64 bit.

After checking the forum, I know that to trade items between them is allowed & GW Launcher seems like a good choice.

But when I go to the linked program, latest Release 16.11, there is no appropriate zipped file to download, or I'm totally not seeing it. What I see are two .exe files, neither one of which results in what is described in the video by the author & two source code zip files, which I don't need.

I realize that the video is out of date, so the instructions might be a bit different, but I'd still need the program's zip file to begin with.

If someone can please link the zip file location, or redirect me to it, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

    Thank you Bluey.

It would have made sense to me if they'd ended it at, They are restricted to creating PvP characters only, and cannot leave the Battle Isles.

From my pov, the rest is unnecessary & for me at least, was confusing.

I thought it made sense, that if you were buying the base game & also buying at least one or more of the campaigns, then as a bonus item on that account, buying the kit would be a really nice addition.

It would allow you to make one set of PvP characters to play in the Battle Isles, which would then be restricted to playing PvE content only, when you entered the campaigns you owned; the real bonus being the no cost second profession change.

Otherwise, I don't really see the benefit of having the kit, unless you really love to PvP & are constantly experimenting with builds & want all of those character slots to fill that need. Then it would be great!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

It would have been completely clear to me if the description ended as a/m & was followed by,

"IF unless they also have one or more of the role-playing campaigns added to their account," then they can create their choice of PvE characters for use in campaigns owned content & PvP characters restricted to the Battle Isles.

It could be that I'm being dense though... :-/

    Thanks again. o/

From the Wiki: Players who purchase the PvP Access Kit have access to all professions, and can freely change their secondary profession at no cost. They are restricted to creating PvP characters only, and cannot leave the Battle Isles, unless they also have one or more of the role-playing campaigns added to their account.

1 - I have all of the role-playing campaigns on my account, so if I buy the PvP Access Kit, then can the characters that I create using the kit, i.e. PvP characters only, leave the Battle Isles?

2 - If not, then what does that last bit refer to?

3 - If those PvP characters can leave the Battle Isles, then does that mean they have access to the other owned role-playing campaigns' PvE maps, are able to quest there etc.?

    Any replies appreciated. o/
