Anyways I guess ill post what i put on reddit

Ill add that a lot of features that were taken from toolbox and implemented officially were usually implemented better in toolbox. It isnt a comment on the programming ability of Stephen or BIll, its just a statement of fact that weve been working on this tool for years, and they are doing these changes in small sections in their spare time in sections of code I do not believe they worked on during the live teams work

I think good middle ground is that Anet say its wrong, Maybe give Ban or two so ppl know theyre behind their words. And then ppl can keep using the programs at their own risk. The real problem with texmod i see is that ppl think its allowed without official word so its becoming meta and accepted. Then The ppl who didn't care they cheat can keep cheating at own risk And ppl scared of ban wouldnt ;)

The "problem" with texmod and other visual mods is that arenanet will never be able to know you are using it without clientside code detection, which they have not used in GW1 (yet... theyve recently resorted to clientside detection in GW2)

Also a blanket ban of toolbox after so much omission from the last 5-7 years will bring backlash, how is that even a middle ground xD. They have done exactly what you have said in the past mind you, it solves nothing

the problem with that approach is that eventually there will be a choice for Toolbox if this attitude is adopted - comply or get squashed.

Also for any prospective replacement programs too. It would be less work to blanket-ban all third party programs than to adapt the existing code accordingly.

But I really hope it doesn’t come to that. I’d like to see a middle ground.

I think you underestimate the company cost of a banwave, the amount of code needed to effectively flag all abusers plus the support team to handle all the "I was hacked/It was my brother/I did nothing wrong" spam, and be able to fiilter with legitimate false positives is more than enough to warrant taking the time to change a few lines of code with some QA testing and build iteration

I hope ArenaNet is smarter than to go with the "get squashed" method, if they do that without really looking the games issues, they will kill a good chunk of the games community

But why should Anet be expected to alter their game server-side to accommodate a third party program? No no no no. That’s entirely upside down thinking. The third party program should not be allowed to do it in the first place. It’s not Anet’s job to accommodate Toolbox, it’s Toolbox’s responsibility to comply with Anet.

Because otherwise people will abuse it? People don't ask for permission to cheat, they look for lack of enforcement

    Also, what Lexx said above

Well guess everyone draws the line on their own since there isnt really official word about it, but personally i think its cheating if its done with 3rd party program and isnt avaible without such, it might be small things but imo it realy doesnt matter, its all wrong

I can respect that opinion, but even the past few updates show that it is not all wrong. A good chunk of features officially added by the recent update came from toolbox first (borderless fullscreen, chat filter, etc.). And even before this, functionality such as hi-res textures for other players was originally from KSMod. We have had an impact on the game, and there are features that arenanet are obviously happy with in these modifications.

As for the banning of bots and rmt---all for it, just make sure that you are not banning law abiding players too (I will remind you of the last HUGE ban of what 2015? when that GM ran that program that detected anyone using anything....and yes load of non-rule breakers were banned---later most were unbanned as well). Just make sure when they ban they catch only the rule breakers (rmt are easy---though, as we know, many of those accounts are more than likely stolen---) not as easy as it sounds.

A lot more of those accounts deserved the ban than you think. At least I know that the majority of the people who were complaining on the guru thread about the ban did actually bot

It's not my job to work on improvement of the game experience. All the "programmers" should find a job in the field , instead of working on game that does not belong to them.

Everyone mentions access to the chest or simple map travel , but maybe let's talk bit more of other features of Toolbox (like bypassing quests and missions or skill usage on recharge without player presence , etc.) ? What about non public versions of Toolbox ? Are you sure it's only used to "do good stuff" ?

It is our hobby to work on the game, all of us are students or already working in the field with 6 digit salary's. ArenaNet has been more than okay with lightweight game mods in the past like KSMod, texmod, the directsong playlist editor, etc. That do the same sort of "hacking" that toolbox does to a lesser extent. To say we are all nolifes in our basements is insulting honestly.

Hence the discussion for tos compliance. Toolbox originated from doasc as a more available box to private toolboxes that were available before like the Zraw Menu, which did much worse things than toolbox does today. I may not agree with Has Khas decision to make it all open source and available, but you have to understand these were developed when the game was in no-mans-land for support. If you get abandoned by your developer and there is no consequences to doing more risky things, it will be taken advantage of. Toolbox has pushed beyond that scope for a while now especially with the C++ rewrite, and most of the features that you all have problems with are legacy features ported from the old toolbox.

We cant control what people develop outside of toolbox, and if toolbox was closed source there are plenty of other avenues that are easily available for them to do the same things.

Multi-launch and Texmod were permitted by AN in a post on gwguru years ago. By Martin , if I remember correctly.

Toolbox can f-off back to bot forums where it came from. "Improving life quality" hahaha get a life :P

what have you done to improve life quality of your precious game we all nolife, trust me when i say things are being discussed about making toolbox more tos compliant

As such, "bad" professions such as Mesmer went from generally unwanted to game breakingly powerful. I don't use that term lightly. Rits are also stupidly powerful too.

Every profession that got a profession update became rediculously powerful, rits were meh until the rit update when they got the ability to solo VQ areas with spirit spam, mes was pretty much the worst pve profession until the mes update which made them the strongest bulk caster profession in the game, dervs were a bad primary profession to use until the dervish update, now they are the strongest physical attacker in the game.

Yeah, they really were not keen on nerfing anything once those started coming out xD

If GW stops being profitable or useful to them? They'll close it pretty fast. Nothing personal, just business and it would suck but that's life and we move on.

I'm not affiliated with arena-net in any way but with what they HAVE come out with, I can be very confident in saying that the GW1 servers will close when ArenaNet dies. Why? Because their server architecture is very similar to the two games, and because GW1 takes minimal amount of resources compared to GW2. Because of this they can easily just piggyback any GW1 instances open out of the servers for GW2. In short, I am pretty sure that GW1 is alive now in large part to GW2.

Its easy to call ArenaNet a single entity, however there are many people with many different opinions and positions in the company. Yes a good chunk of their GW2 employees have probably never even played GW1. Yes their network security team has had a bad rep for mass bans before. Yes their support team was outsourced which allowed for very mediocre service. But realize that there are good people there, even to this day.

Also, I think most people know, whether you want to admit it or not, that most of the 2015 bans were warranted, whether they got their accounts back or not.

why do people demonize ArenaNet so much, I feel a lot of people take for granted the fact that they even keep guild wars running, a factor that other NCSoft published titles have not been so fortunate about.

GW2 != GW1 that is obvious. However, GW1 is dated, and "in need of a facelift" is an understatement. To be fair I do not think GW1's price model was even built to even be able to maintain itself, it was a garage project by some ex-blizzard employees for the longest time. In the end, they'd have to be churning out campaigns like they were, and I am sure that in itself is a reason they decided to go a completely different direction. I wasn't fond of GW2 either, but I wouldn't be so quick to throw them into the role of the bad guy.

If someone has the addresses for Jeff Strain and Pat Wyatt I'm sure we would want to give a gift to them as well. Anyone have that info? ...

Dwadwa "Take care"? Like putting an active exploit/anti-bot team on GW1? Define what you want from them. In the end I feel after the 205 banwaves they just want us all to sit over here and shut up with how most of the community acted.

    Hi,

Im K A O S Theory, I have been running for a long time and I kind of feel the urge to run around again. So I put up this service. Runs are tips, I'm not doing this for money. I am also doing this for enjoyment as should everyone, because of this, I have right to delay a run or refuse a run if I am not feeling up to it.

I'm also considering re-recording my guild wars running guides, which may have footage from a run I give from this thread.

Leave your IGN below, and I will message you in game to figure out the run.

    Outpost Runs Available:

    N6M45cW.png
g2xSkSX.png All Outposts Available, except outposts on the Ring of Fire.

    hKB7oJr.png
g2xSkSX.png All Outposts Available, however I will NOT do any sort of ascension run (Vizunah Square/Nahpui). Do not ask.

    JXtgaIX.png
g2xSkSX.png All Outposts Available, given you are on the Mainland of Nightfall... except the Mouth of Torment, some realm of torment runs possible for faster Nightfall Completion!

    g2xSkSX.png All Outposts Available.

    Mission Runs:
    TBD

    Dungeon Runs:

Dungeon runs will be done at leisure, do not expect immediate service. If you want someone reliable you may want to look somewhere else for dungeon runs ;p

    • Ooze Pit
    • Catacombs of Kathandrax
    • Oolas Lab
    • Frostmaws Burrows
    • Probably more I cant think of atm.

Besides some of the assassin armors with the over abundance of blades, most of the armor in GW look feasible (if not practical), just with heavy detailing/ornamentation.

It still suffers from rpg syndrome

    272px-Elementalist_Elite_Sunspear_armor_f.jpg

Id totally fight armies wearing that irl if i was a girl :P (this isnt an argument against gw1, all rpgs do this xD)

The models were simpler/less stylized in gw1 as in gw2 imo which makes them look cleaner, dont know if either is better, tbh i like gw2's art style/environment
