November Guild Wars Update 2024 Curiosity

  • "Preparing for a compiler upgrade to Visual Studio 2022." Does this mean that GW will stop running on Windows XP? →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 23:11, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Yes. And Windows 2000. Ideally Windows Vista will survive but we're still checking on that. Stephen Clarke-Willson (talk) 23:16, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Reading this, it made me think. Are there any people who still play this game on those older OS's still to this day? Seeing as how it was possible up until this point.

  • It's also possible to run GW in XP compatibility mode, while running the latest versions of Windows. The problem with XP, Vista, W7 and W8 is that security updates no longer exist. But you could always just launch GW and not open an Internet browser.

But the most important thing is total recompilation via one or more future updates. This means (if I'm not mistaken) that third-party software will all have to be rewritten at the head level, basically the way it handles and recognizes the GW porgram (like X or Y coordinates for a bot, etc.). I mention it here on a related topic and TB++. What's more, if you've installed Parallels Desktop on a Macbook arm, there have been texture problems since the last update, making the game almost unplayable.
