My first ever sale ended. The person with the winning bid has not responded to me yet. What's the typical way forward here? I'd like to be fair, respectful, and courteous.

Always be respectful and give him or her time. Timezones can be tricky. Some people aren't checking DMs on legacy as often as you might think. Do you have his or her ingame name? Often helps to write them in guildwars
took me sometimes a week or so to trade with them. But thats just my experience. If it takes way too long I think (and please correct me here) you are free to open the sell again or sell it to someone else.
