My worst troubles on my 7Mb/768kbps line all started during that halloween blizzard in the northest usa a few years ago. It was that storm that started my issues. A line came down and they did a bad splice fixing it. 90% of lines here are copper, there is only fiber on some main lines, none to any homes. The 'fixed' line had 66% packet loss and as a result horribly inconsistent pings. During that halloween I somehow managed to stay in gw, my traffic must have been rerouted to some extent...

I VQed Dalada Uplands with an in game ping of up to 180,000ms, yes 3 minutes, idk how gw didn't boot me out. I would notice my heros stopped and keep going, I would scout where groups were, then what can only be described as "the rubberband from hell" would happen and BOOOOOIIIINNNGGG back to my heros I would go.

Inconsistent internet is the worst, slow but stable is better-ish, best is getting what you pay for. It just plain sucks when they can't figure out the problem. Have you tried something like traceroute? Ping Plotter works better than a plain old traceroute, it does ping and packet loss for every hop with a better gui than a command line interface. It's the only thing that got my line fixed, they kept saying everything checked out fine until I used it and told them exactly what hop the loss was happening at.

I have done Cisco's CCNA 1 through 4 (Cisco Certified Network Associate) training course, which teaches you just about anything about the internet and how it works on a very technical level.
I'm without a doubt better educated on the matter than the employees of my ISP...
It's just completely out of my hands, the issue seems to be that the modem reverts to completely wrong configurations or that the network box in my street is malconfigured and is causing the issues - that is at least what I expect - everything up to the physical layer (OSI-7) goes through normally. So now I have to suffer through their support :)
My speeds are artificially low, the connection itself is good, but due to this the speed and quality are just unreliable. Everything lags like hell.
A slow speed is bearable if the quality is good enough, but this ís hardly so.

And command line for the win ;3

Well, I have been asked to send through my list of speedtests..
I had some records of 1.14 Mpbs and an upload of 0.56 Mbps, but it is kind hard to do stuff that way and really limits my ability to work at home (which gives me more time to work on Legacy). Sucks, but hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Its not only the speed though but the general quality of it, it is just slow and has a ton of lag as well.

I have actually implemented a shoutbox on another website of mine once, and while it was a really fun way, the big issue with it was that the main activity on that site dropped to nearly nothing because of it.
The big issue with that is that it is all deleted, so usefull things aren't stored and so on.

Because of this, I would suggest using Discord - https://guildwarslegacy.com/misc.php?page=discord
That always has people on it :)

In general, I am not against a shoutbox but not overtly positive on it either. Perhaps if we get enough request for it ;)

    Hello everybody,

I have been quite inactive lately because of internet issues (I get about 2-5Mbps instead of my usual 100Mbps..)

My internet provider is currently looking into this and I am working on solutions, should be back on schedule as soon as possible.

Guild Wars Origins. It would be cool to see the origins and experience the Guild Wars.

I'd love a game just after Guild Wars 1 though, see them trying to hold ground against the Charr... how Elona fares, the internal struggles.
There are some truly great stories there.

So.... chocolate cake or vanilla cake?

Since the Guru archive has been down for half a year now, we decided to do our best and try to provide a (temporary) archive of Guild Wars Guru.
We've been working hard (and by that we mean that we've been using our whips on Kevin) to make this possible.

You can now visit the archive on http://archive.guildwarslegacy.com (we do suggest you use the links below) - HOWEVER, keep this in mind: this isn't a real backup, but rather parts of the website tied together. Huge chunks of the site are still missing, you can't use search and navigation isn't buttery smooth - however, you can find a LOT of information in it and you're able to recover images, posts etc.

This is the most expensive part of Legacy right now to host, being over 100 GB big (Legacy itself is right now way below 500 MB in size). If you use this often, please consider donating to Guild Wars Legacy.

Questions and inquiries about this archive can be sent to [email protected]

Perhaps not who liked it, but would be fun to see how many people like a post. Imo it would be fun to see a like counter.

so please don't disable it ;)

The amount will stay there ^^ What Marty means is that in other themes it's also shown how much likes you got in total on all your posts and how many likes you've given yourself - and that isn't quite useful :)

I'm going to search further for a better solution for this, but this is a bit of a thougher nut to crack for me since it requires me to actually modify the forum's code.
That's not to be said it's impossible, but it will have to wait until I have the dev environment ready.

yeah, the thumbs up emoji is now behind the text: Like Post. atleast for me. And is there a like counter?

I have fixed that, it should now look like the other options. I have also added the bar that shows who liked which post and restyled it a bit.

Revolution displays the number of likes given and received along with the post count, join date ,etc, as well as showing a list of people who liked a post at the bottom of it. Neither of those appear on Wintersday. The liked list appears as white text with a shadow on a white background though. The thumbs up icon is misaligned for me too.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, if we're going to have a likes system installed, isn't reputation kinda redundant? It's never really been clear what it's meant to be for anyway.

EDIT 2: Also, I'd personally prefer for the total number of likes somebody has given and received to not be listed on every post. Listing the people who liked a post on that post (as it happens now) would be all I'd like to see.

Wintersday hasn't got the same treatment yet, as I'm going to merge it with MyIPB so that it uses the same templates - right now every change has to be done in every theme, and I'm simply going to use 1 base theme and change the stylesheets soon.
Revolution has gotten the small fixes as well.
The reputation system has been removed, it didn't really work here (it was here because it was a default feature of MyBB).
The amount of likes being listed isn't intentional, it's set up that way on some themes though (as it is the default). I don't think that's important information... I'll look into disabling it.

Making a thread here to show gratitude for all who made the archive possible. I forgot what epic stuff was posted right till the shut down. I just browsed the last 3 pages of Your Beloved Collections and I couldn't be happier. Nostalgia, memories and even a little tear when I saw that green bulb under my profile indicating I was online.

    Thank you so much!

    ~Emma

It's been a TON of work to get it online, but I'm glad we finally did it! It's a really huge archive (100GB+ and 1021288 files), but it's worth it.

yeah, it has been nice to see the old girl back up and moving (slowly, but that is just about right for her!)

only issue I have with it is it is only available thru my ipb...none of the other backgrounds have it (yet?--hint hint).

That is done on purpose, same reason as why I didn't publicy talk about it yet/announced it. I have to see how the server reacts to having 100GB+ of web data and more than 1 million files. That's quite a lot...

It took me quite a lot of effort, but on the posts itself the time should now be displayed like this: 29-01-2017, 23:55 UTC - I had to modify core files of the forum.

    Note of reference for myself should I need to re-do this in the future: functions_post.php, $post['postdate'] = my_date('d-m-Y, H:i e', $post['dateline'],0,2); (line 166)

Yesterday, I went to a show of Epica and Powerwolf, and the support act was Beyond The Black -they blew me away!

I love this song from them:

    Hello everybody,

Just a small message here to inform you that someone has been impersonating other people lately, including Max Borken and Richey but also many other players.
Keep in mind that anybody claiming to be someone might not be who they are claiming to be - always ask proof to be certain.

In the case of Legacy staff, you can reach them on <username>@staff.guildwarslegacy.com - all of our staff will have an email soon.

Should this happen again, please send screenshots to us ([email protected]) so that we can take action against this and send it the right people so hopefully action can be taken against this behaviour.

Keep in mind that everyone plays this game to enjoy it - behaviour like this is good for nobody.

Should you know the in game names of this user, feel free to post them here and add him to your ignore lists. So far the names reported are Dwigt Schrute

Hello everybody - we're finally ready to announce the winners of our first contest!
First of all, sorry for the delay - I'm fully to blame for it, but I have had a few busy weeks.

We had a lot of submissions for this contest and we really had a though time picking a winner!
There were a lot of great submissions, very creative and funny ones indeed! It was so hard that we ended up with a tie for the last Grawl, so without further ado... here are the winners!

    Congratulations to:

Honorable mentions go to Ewilan and Max Mephisto!

    (The pictures chosen are random)

I'll be in touch in the next few days to get all of your details to get your hands on these cute little Grawls!

    Once more, congratulations!

"Too much work" and then two days later it's here. Possibly related, I just got a popup that says I can tag people like this: cosyfiep

    Doesn't seem to have worked.

Yeah - I found a neat plugin for MyBB that did exactly that - I looked over it last time :)
I added something else which shows notifications in your browser, even when you are in another tab. Could that popup be from that?
    I didn't add anything for @mentions.
