so you are giving more credit to items which have high gold vaule ONLY for that reason, and not because it's an old relic from old times?

let me tell you that i doubt that.

i've seen ppl buying prenerf items, just because these items are prenerf, and don't drop anymore.

That's the point -- high gold value are prenerf, and they have evidence of it. They can not be replicated. They are old and unique items, even if not in a stat we generally think of as meaningful(gold value).

You're actually wrong in the way you're thinking about this. "prenerf" items with low merch value don't matter, in the same way that a regular q10 15^50 FDS has no meaningful value whether it was dropped in 2006 or 2016.

It's specifically the higher value -- not just the age, which we can't prove as you say -- which matters.

Q8 swords, shields, and foci with high merch values can no longer drop. This is a simple fact. Thus, they are pre-nerf. They are impossible to replicate items that ceased dropping long ago. We value weird mods that no longer drop whether they're useful or meaningful in any way, and we should thus at least recognize high gold values as a "prenerf" category of item.

You're making this more complicated than it has to be by asking if we should consider old, but not statistically impossible to replicate items as "prenerf". Not only age is a factor here.

Like I said in Alliance Chat,

I think gold value absolutely determines an item as "prenerf" and here's why:

When we look for prenerf, we're not doing so because a worse damage mod has any technical value. We're buying simply because they're old., archaic, unique, and remind us of a time gone. High gold value q8s are old and have a visible marker of it, just the same as prenerf unusable mods.

Chevy used the example of a 15^50 Gothic sword being a 15^50 Gothic sword whether it was dropped prenerf or not, but when we say prenerf we are simply saying that an item came into being before weapon rebalancing updates. Odds are that prenerf q8 Gothic is far rarer than one dropped yesterday -- for every one that dropped in the months q8 gothic prenerf was avaiilable, five have probably dropped since.

We may not value high gold items as much as we do weird mods, but they are by all definitions prenerf and should be treated as such. Its the same as how some mods are worth more than others prenerf -- you don't have to pay more because something is a prenerf sword, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be called prenerf.

I think your lack of prot-stuff might bite you. the ward against melee is cool, and obviously 2x PI+Panic is going to be incredible, but despite being 8 mesmers your team might not have enough shutdown to reliably avoid getting nuked by casters. I'm imagining places like Slaver's Exile where the enemies will be pressuring you back.

Most solo profession comps can handle having a character carry prot monk abilities(or st in the case of all-rit teams), but this is kind of impractical on mesmer due to energy management issues. I think all content in GW can probably be done by an all-mesmer team, but you might have to get creative with that elite-less mesmer sometimes and totally change it up.

Also, you probably want more than one spirit to again help with not getting nuked and then falling apart. You're completely and totally relying on shutting down big hits before they happen, and i think preparing a little better for things to go wrong is likely wise. Mesmers do not have the energy management of eles and necros, and even with WNWN and inspiration rupts on every bar I think you'll likely encounter some energy pressure and general survivability pressure quite often.

Just my 2c. I run 5 mesmers, sometimes 6, but i've never tried using mesmers as the healers. I'm sure your team will be a blast. :)

Hopes up for mass bans in future !

I think this is a rather extreme view. 99% of toolbox users are just using it to save time fast traveling or to open chests in town. At worst, maybe they have a locked chest macro to unlock locked chests in view range without walking up to them or something like that. There are very few genuine cheating functionalities of toolbox outside of:

1. accepting quests from a distance, which allows for people to save time in doa, this is cheating

2. i guess subverting experience gain when completing quests is technically cheating but this is literally only useful for getting low level characters to places they aren't supposed to be. While 100% "cheating", I really find it hard to say someone deserves a ban for wanting to mess around and get Obsidian armor on a level 2.

I have used toolbox a total of one time, for the record. I'm not defending it as a user - I'm just saying that calling for bans in our already small community seems like a really poor attitude.

I respect you from the guru days Pleikki, but I think you're wrong here.

Additionally, I have no specific post to quote, but to Max:

I think your pseudo-neutral position on this matter is below you. Maybe that's a harsh way to put it -- the more posts you make, the more reasonable they seem to become regarding this issue. Your responses on page 2 saying you would like a middle ground are quite good. Anyway, I've always seen you as a respectable guy. I was a bit of a lurker on Guru for most of the later days, but I've known you.

On this issue, I've seen you feign innocence regarding knowledge of toolbox a few times between this thread and Reddit. You act as if you're just being a neutral party who is learning as you go and throwing up flags of concern, but I think you're pretty transparently against people playing with the way the game works in an effort to keep it interesting after 14 years(I am too, I don't use TB, I'm just not pro-punishment regarding it).

I've never gotten a shady feeling from you, but in this case I think you're letting your desire to keep GW pure outweigh your desire to shoot straight with your fellow members of the community.

I guess what I'm saying is, with all due respect, this is my opinion if you end up reading it:

I want you to know that as a reader who likes you, it's OK for you to be against people using third party programs, but acting like you're just concerned for others when forming this opinion is a poor and transparent political strategy. You're concerned for your view of what Guild Wars should be in 2018, too. Own it.

You've been trying to become a sort of ambassador for this side of the Guild Wars community, and again I respect you, but I think you should consider being more transparent with your feelings rather than trying to throw up passive-aggressive scares(I'm thinking of your comments about how old Anet stances on third party programs don't apply to new features of Toolbox, when Anet never commented on them at all. You're looking for excuses to make people worried that you're right, which is kind of slimy.)

I know this was kind of long. I'm not a regular poster and I never have been -- I'm just a lurker who dearly loves Guild Wars and wants to see the community to continue a healthy, not-too-fragmented existence.

Best,

WFI

I paid 40e for my q10 earth froggy 3 months ago, and saw multiple offers in that range around the same time. Unless something has changed drastically I would expect 50-60e.

EStorage wands are really, really unpopular. Being Q9 makes it a collector's item, but you likely won't find much demand for it. Unsure on an exact price but I'd expect that one to fluctuate a whole lot.

I read this when it was posted but didn't have anything nice to say. Now that the thread has sort of taken off, I'll throw my hat in:

I'd rather send individual packages to any GW devs we can locate. I don't have good feelings towards the whole of ArenaNet. I just get sad thinking about the GW->GW2 transition and I can't feel good about any nice gesture towards ANet as a whole until they show us a little something.

But I can create a small stylesheet for you that you can use with Stylish for example to change the fonts into Georgia 5. That way, you can browse this site like you want to :)

That would be great as a solution for me and others interested in visibility, but if that is a regular complaint maybe a standardized fix to the font and/or text size would be useful. That was really my point.

Even just the current font bumped up one size is far better. Right now our font/size combination is a little below the point of easy legibility, at least for me.

I like the color choices/vibes. Definitely more fitting for Guild Wars.

The multiple browns(the darker one of the "quick reply" bar I'm looking at right now vs the more red/lighter shaded one bordering posts) does come off a little funny though.

Another complaint - readability is still shaky for me. With this board pulled up side-by-side with other forums, it's quite hard to read. The text is thinner and smaller than any other forum I can think of.

Maybe a bolder default font, or a slightly larger default font size would help?

For example, I can read this far better(Times New Roman, size four.)
Five would be even better, but perhaps too bold.
Six is definitely too far, but I hope this scale gets the point across.

Georgia is a quite nice font too. This is actually my favorite font for writing, but TNR is more "standard".

If I could filter the site into my own font preference, Georgia 5 would be my choice.

Hi Max,

I think the team should be more transparent about exact funding needs. I typed up a slightly longer message suggesting a need for specific funding goals, but then noticed there is in fact an exact number listed on the donations page. With that said, only people already willing to donate will be clicking on the donations page to notice that. Perhaps an explanation of exactly how much money is needed and where it is going in a post like this would be valuable. Everyone checks recent threads, few will check the donations page.

If this site is self-hosted, where are our donations going? To power costs? Internet? Let us know.

As discussed in this GW Guru thread (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/rmt-spam-t10546857.html), I made a ticket and had an identical response. Not sure Anet bans will ever solve our problems. Definitely feels like we have to get more creative, especially considering the arguments I made there - the gold sellers are making 1k+ a week and are small operations. People are making livings off of those sites. They'll buy more accounts and will care far more than Anet even if we do get some admin support.

-Can you use mercenaries with characters who are not yet level 20?
I can't confirm or deny this because I have no free slots, but my guess would be that they probably have the same soft restrictions as MOX since he's another non-leveling hero.
-Is there an in-game cost to use them (ie. gold fee, etc.)?
No
-When you initially add one to your party, do they come with any skills in their skill bar (I'm aware they have access to all unlocked skills)
Nope.

Hi.

I've been playing since the first week. Was a Guru member since late 2008, though I had lurked before. I had some big life shifts and I was away from the game from 2010-2013, but am now back and playing every day. I have two GWAMMs-to-be, but I don't like cartography so they're both waiting for me to max my Lucky title. If anyone ever wants to chest run I'm your guy, at least until I'm done with that darn title.

My IGN is the same as my name here, and I love to do vanquishes, dungeons, etc. as well. I'm still very much an active player.
