SUMMARY : TIPS & INFO ON GETTING A PRICE CHECK

  • If you are new to the game/forums or a returning player and would like to know if your item is worth more than its gold value, here are some tips and info that I hope will help you out when requesting a price check.

Prices are highly inflated these days when compared to 15-20 years ago. What would have sold for a few plats to a few stacks of ectoplasms, can probably fetch a few stacks of armbraces so let’s start with high end stuff:

    NOTE: 1 ARMBRACE OF TRUTH = 20-25ectos = 100K Plat

(depending on fluctuations of current ectoplasm market value)

CRITERIA FOR HIGH END COLLECTOR ITEMS

    STATS:

Any prenerf requirement 7/8 max damage purple/gold items ~ and sometimes even blue or white items would be highly valued by collectors.

Max damage requirement 7/8 weapons with damage of 13/14/15%...etc. are the most sought after, although 11/12% may fetch a good price if the collector intends to expand their collection.

Examples of melee and ranged weapons:

REQ 8 MAX DMG Purple Gothic Axe with damage 14% (while health is above 50%)

REQ 8 MAX DMG Gold Dead Bow with damage 15% (while enchanted)

Purple max inherent modifiers tend to max out at 14%, unless health conditions are in the reverse, i.e. while health is below 50%, or while hexed.

Here’s the catch… 20% while health is below 50% and 20% while hexed are not popular stats in terms of utility so the price of the item will drop significantly. However, the item will still fetch a decent sum from a collector wishing to complete their set of 7/8s.

Inherent modifiers in terms of specialization and popularity amongst players and collectors:

    1. CLEAN 15% damage with no requirements ~ a few lucky collectors have these, and it is doubtful that any will ever show up on the market.

    2. Damage 15% (while health is above 50%) ~ most popular stat for all

    3. +5 energy – most were customized for the 20% damage, but I’ve seen quite a few nice ones around lately

    4. Damage +15% -1 (energy/health regeneration)

    5. Damage 15% (while enchanted)

    6. Damage 15% (while in stance)

    7. Damage 15% -10 armor

    8. Damage 15% -5 energy

    9. Damage 15% (vs Hexed foes)

    10. Damage 20% (while health is below 50%)

    11. Damage 20% (while hexed)

    12. Low damage/No modifiers/High requirements/blues or whites

I may have missed a few, but I’m sure you’ll be able to follow the prenerf link provided and figure things out eventually.

TLDR/NOTE: The most important thing for a high-end collector’s weapon item is the req7/8 prenerf non-inscribable requirement. If your weapon is one or two points off max damage (e.g. 14-27 for a bow), ask for a price check or set up an auction. It’ll still probably fetch something more than merchant price.

Please do not post something like this and expect a pricing of a few stacks of ectos/armbraces:

Might still get more than what the merchant offers if one is patient, but it’s not worth the time, effort or space unless you have maxed out storage space.

    (I’d be happy with a few ectos though… Anyone interested??? PEFECT 15% -10… 70 gold starting bid...😉)

  • Examples of prenerf caster weapons:

REQ 8 MAX DMG Holy Branch with 10/10 halves casting time & 19/20 halves skill recharge inherent ~ with added Adept staff head & staff wrapping of the monk

REQ 8 11-21 (~one off max) Plagueborn Staff with inherent 10/10 halves casting time & 10/10 halves skill recharge (gold letters) - with added Swift staff head & staff wrapping of fortitude

Staves NO LONGER drop as seen above. Prenerf req7/8s with max or a few damage points off max are highly sought after since they are extremely rare and can me modded to look as the above. They are very different from the post-nerf Old School (OS) and Inscribable Staves pictured below:

Perfect Req 9 Old School 10/10 casting time Accursed Staff, which can be modified with a Swift or Adept staff head for an additional 10/10 or 20/20

Perfect Req 9 Inscribable Earth Staff which can be modified with an inscription, staff head, and wrapping however you like ~ 400 gv (anyone interested😉)

Most popular inherent modifiers for a prenerf req7/8 staff:

    1. Req 7/8 perfect casting & skill recharge modifies (e.g. HCR/HCR/HSR) in purple/gold letters ~ without the white letterings above ~

    2. Perfect 20/20 (HCT) & 20/20 (HSR) with item requirement

    3. Perfect 10/10 (HCT) & 10/10 (HSR) with item requirement, e.g. Plagueborn above

    4. Perfect 10/10 (HSR/HCT) & 20/20 (HSR) with item requirement, e.g. Holy Branch ~ although mine is 1-off so 19/20

    5. Mixed specialization ~ i.e Req8 Divine Favor with 20/20 (HSR) for Healing, etc

    6. Mixed professions ~ i.e. Req 8 Curses with 20/20 (HSR) for Inspiration Magic, etc

    7. Max Damage Dual modifier requirement 7/8s with 8-9/10 and/or 18-19/20

    8. Near max damage dual modifier requirement 7/8s with 8-9/10 and/or 18-19/20 ~ e.g. Holy Branch

    9. Single modifier max or near max dmg requirement 7 with 8-9/10 or 18-19/20

    10. Gold staff with no requirements??? ~ Unsure about this but check the prenerf link

There are quite a few permutations for staves so do get a price check if you feel you have something special, especially if it is a weapon, staff, or wand with max or near max damage requirement 7/8.

I will not go into requirement 7 and 8 shields and foci as there are just too many permutations in terms of inherent modifiers to work with. If you have a max energy/armor req 7/8 with perfect single/dual inherent mods, post it for a price check. However, req 5 armor 13 shields are sought after as well for certain builds so do seek a price check before heading to the merchant.

  • Which brings us to the next part…

    SKINS:

Some skins are highly sought after and will fetch a much higher price when auctioned. However, it all depends on the current trends, market, and demand.

Most highly sought after skins are more for the bragging rights rather than their utility so check first before visiting the merchant, e.g. ‘The Unicorn’ Max Damage Prophecies Double Bladed Sickle.

    Examples of melee weapons:

CRYSTALLINE SWORD ~ any requirement with or without inherent stats or non max damage

Shameless copy and paste from GWWiki since I sold my purple 13% while enchanted a long time ago to buy my Summit Axe:(

    DWARVEN AXE

Another shameless copy and paste from GWWiki since I sold my purple 13^50 as well…;(

I’m just giving a couple of examples here since there are way too many rare and popular skins to cover.

To summarize, if you have a prenerf or old school item in your storage with a max damage fully modded non-inscribable low 7/8/9/… requirement that you wish to know the value of, post here for a price check.

Finally, there’s that important thing called, UTILITY:

We all need to work with something in-game so even a stick with damage 3-5 is worth something to someone with nothing in-hand…

It just depends on how lucky or patient a person is when it comes to standing around and spamming in Kamadan, or staring at your phone awaiting some bid for a white 6-28 Prophecies Double Bladed Sickle:

Give me a shout if anyone finds one, will ya… I don’t have much right now, but will hopefully have some in-game currency to buy stuff at the end of this month😊

    Wait… What’s the utility of a white 6-28 axe if I already have a Req 8 6-28 15^50 Summit Axe, I hear someone asking…

    It’s for my sanity’s sake…:P

IN GENERAL, THE LOWER THE REQUIREMENT THE BETTER THE ITEM AND THE EASIER TO SELL. HOWEVER, INHERENT MODS ARE IMPORTANT. IF YOU HAVE A HIGH REQ, IT IS STILL POSSIBLE TO GET A FEW PLATS, A COUPLE OF ECTOS, OR MORE DUE TO THE ITEM'S UTILITY OR SKIN TYPE.

  • THINGS TO DO OR NOT DO WHEN REQUESTING A PRICE CHECK OR AUCTIONING ITEMS

    • Post clear screenshots of the item stats and if possible, of the item itself since a few items have different skins, with some being rarer and more popular than others.

    • Provide a clear title to the thread, e.g. [PC] on MAX/NON-MAX DMG REQ 7/?/? prenerf/OS/Inscribable.

    • To make things a lot easier and cleaner, separate your items for prenerf, OS, and Inscribable.

    • Be patient ~ gamers who provide PCs are here to help… It’s not a full-time job ~ although the rarer an item is, the quicker you will receive a response😉

    • Wait for a second or even a third opinion or you may also check in-game if you know someone you can trust and rely on, e.g. a friend or a guild mate.

    • If you receive a PM requesting to purchase the item, it would mean it has sales value other than the merchant price.

    • Wait for a PC on your thread and open a sales thread HERE if selling the item is your intention.

    • If you have a rare item (e.g. req 7/8 Crystalline Sword 13/14/15^50), you WILL have a very busy thread. If not, be patient and see how things go over a period of 3-5 days.

    • If there are no bidders, then you can go back to the PMs and see if anyone is still interested in the purchase for a price that YOU feel comfortable with.

    • It is fine to respond to any or all PMs since the item is yours to sell or to keep but be polite as well as cautious at the same time.

    • Ignoring PMs is fine too.

    • Prices are highly inflated these days, and some items can sell for far more than what can be transferred over during a single trade. Find a trusted Trade Arbitrator.\

    • If you are satisfied with the price check, type [CLOSED] at the front of your main title without deleting its content in order for others to be able to do a search in the future.

I am unable to list any trade arbitrators since I have just come back to the game, but there are others here who may be able to assist with the names of players who have done it regularly.

For anyone reading this, please do add to the information provided if I have missed anything relevant.

Back in the days, we had separate sections for common and High-End stuff. The common section was for anything selling for plats, and the high-end stuff used ectos. Guess the same could be implemented here on GWLegacy, but I don’t see a high enough volume of sales traffic (yet) to require such changes.

Thank you all, and good game😊

Sorry bsoltan ... Old habits die hard...:saint:

  • PRICE CHECK ON REQUIREMENT 9/10/11/12/13

Post-nerf items are a hard sell, especially if the gaming population in Guild Wars has been stagnant for a while. With favor boosting drop rates (which I only recently discovered >.<), there are more items in the market and not enough players.

Maybe Reforged might help boost the population a little, but as returning players probably have their characters fully equipped, sales will remain stagnated. Add to the fact that most old and new players will be accepting the Melandru’s Accord challenge, and all I can say is that the sales of anything above requirement 9 is practically dead unless it has a desirable skin and perfect stats for utility.

So, what does one do with the excess items in storage?

Well, if you have replayed the game on multiple characters and have pimped out your characters and heroes, anything else left in storage is probably worthless except for the mods and the merchant value.

When it comes to the market for Old School and Inscribable items above req9, it’s mostly about skin and utility. Some skins, like the Storm Bow, Eternal Shield, Bone Dragon Staff, just to name a few, are still highly desirable and are able to fetch a good price.

Which professions are currently played most in-game is also important. Are there more rangers around? Nope. Warriors maybe? Nope. Caster types? Nope again… Personally, I’ve seen a lot of baby dervishes running around since they have the best farming build supposedly. I was on my baby dervish for a bit until I got wiped due to lag and suffered a first death... Spent the rest of the day feeling sorry for myself while watching trade chat in Kamadan. So, here are some…

TIPS ON WHAT TO DO WITH HARD TO SELL ITEMS

    • If they have perfect, desirable mods, salvage and merch the item;

    • Watch Kamadan chat HERE if you are taking a break from gaming ~ not while working or on a stroll since it’s pointless;

    • Study the market in Kamadan chat ~ this you can do at work or on a stroll;😉

    • Find out what is in demand, both online and on the forums;

    • [SEARCH] is your best friend and ally;

    • Direct players to GWLegacy or to your sales thread ~ you do not want to be spamming chat for hours so neither does a gamer want to be spamming buy for ages in Kamadan (Helps to boost the population here as well);

    • Forget drop rates as well as chest runs, and start farming Tengu for feathers, undead, and plants ~ worked for me in the past… And if you drop a max damage Tribal Axe or Prophecies Double Bladed Sickle while doing so, you know who to get in touch with…:P

SERIOUSLY THOUGH, THE ONLY WAY THE MARKET WILL RECOVER IS IF THEY REVERTED AND ALLOWED ALL PRENERF Q7/8 ITEMS TO DROP AT A 1-2% RATE. INSCRIBABLE ITEMS WERE A HORRIBLE IDEA…:cursing:
