I've heard that max gold items that have neither an inherent mod nor an inscription slot are sometimes valuable, and sometimes vendor-trash. Could someone explain how to distinguish one from the other?

Outside of the EOTN/NF skins without an inscription spot that Pleikki mentioned, there are also Q9 Gold OS Martial weapons that don't have an inherent, I am one of the few collectors that remain (I apologize to others if you are still out there, haven't heard of one in a long time). My collection of these are almost complete but still missing some and I do pay for these ones I am missing. You can see my list in my buy thread (Link in my auto signature below) if you happen to come across those.
Otherwise, minimal interest of these by other players.
