  • What would you like from Legacy?

    Happy new year to everyone.

    As it’s a new year, I thought I’d take a moment and ask you all what your think of Legacy currently, and ask you what you’d like to see from us in the future. We have a direction we’d like to go in, but as this is for everyone in the whole Guildwars universe, it would be great to hear what people want so we can try and accommodate as much as we can.

  • Fond memories.......

    I remember when I first heard of collecting items being a thing.

    I remember how I felt when I first saw the elite traders and collectors in action - being jealous of the items they had in their possession, and awe-struck at their knowledge.

    Like a young Mike Wazowski when he comes back out of the door when he followed the professional scarer in, and when confronted by the teacher he says "How do I become a scarer?" I knew there and then that was what I wanted to do, so I set about becoming a collector.

    I remember reading and re-reading the collections thread on the old Guru site to learn. I remember studying the price checks section and the buy/sell sections to get a feel for the markets and what is worth trading. I remember my first trades.

    I remember trying to get noticed by the top collectors, by tracking them down in game and muscling my way onto their conversations on Guru.

    I remember being taken aside by one of my mentors, and now a good friend - a guy called Enchanted Krystal whose collections were part of my inspiration to start. We discussed at length what to collect, and he had spotted a gap in the current collectorsphere for a collection of Dual reduction shields. He showed me a few, and there and then donated a r8 dual reduction skeleton shield to start me off. Looking back, it was like a father throwing his kid in a pool for the first time and telling him to swim.

    But I did swim, because I'm belligerent and ambitious. And I was hungry to learn more, and to join the elite collectors' guild.

    I remember the day I was asked to join that guild, and the day I was asked to be an officer. I remember my conversations with the leadership about the direction the guild could take. I remember the feeling of having achieved what I set out to achieve. I remember living my own dream. You can keep GWAMM, or the HOM, This was the pinnacle for me. I remember the pride. Such pride.

    I remember being taught all about Pre-Nerf, and how some items are rarer and more exclusive even than the commonly accepted Pre-nerf. I especially remember the Pre-Nerf masterclasses bestowed upon me by Gregor, Kromp, Kabong and Tooburns.

    I remember the history lessons from Kromp of past history from before I was even aware this game existed. The tales of how it all began, and the stories of the legendary collectors from the same era.

    I remember thinking that I had enough shields to sink a warship, but no weapons of note, and deciding to start collecting those too.

    I remember talent-spotting many new people who showed the potential of being collectors, discussing what to collect like my mentor did with me, and encouraging them to take the plunge. Several of them did and are now collectors in their own right.

    I remember the day I learned that guru was to close, and I remember deciding right there and then that I wasn't going to allow the community to be homeless, so I searched out people from the Facebook group who might be able to build a new site. It turned out that already in that group was everything the community needed to start a new replacement site. This is probably my fondest memory of all. My proudest moment. That small group of like-minded folk who made this site a reality, led by Richey, programmed by Kevin make Legacy my fondest memory.

    There’s nothing wrong with fondly reminiscing about memories.

    Or is it just jealousy that there are people around here who have the brain capacity to string some words together to paint a mental image?

    Ya, that would have been my valuation 😉.

    But also with advice that’s it’s suoer rare, shouldn’t be sold quickly, should be listed for sale here on Legacy etc, and probably would have mentioned a lottery win too. Just because no actual numbers are given, a price check can still give a good indication of what to sell for, and how to do it.

    Knowledge is power. It always has been.

    Whilst it sucks that it happened to you, if you’d done even a tiny amount of research before accepting any offers you’d have known you had a lottery winning ticket.

    I’m in complete agreement with the Captain. Especially because you knew it was rare before you even started. It was a huge mistake, I think we can all agree on that. There has never been a culture of sympathy for the underinformed, and there have been multiple examples throughout Guildwars’ history of people selling themselves short because they didn’t do any homework. Every one of my own replies to price checks for valuable items has been the same advice - don’t get ripped off.

    However hindsight is a wonderful thing, and it even took other people asking you about it before you even realised your mistake. This is the precise reason myself and others started this website and the Facebook communities so that people had places they can go to to ask questions and seek expert advice before pulling the trigger, whether that is asking the best hero setup, or is my sword worth a bazillion ectos. Had you asked here, or on the Facebook groups you would have received proper advice on its worth and on how to go about selling it.

    I wish it had turned out better for you, I really do.

    Well.... I went to bed 7 hours ago, and by the time I woke up, the tone of this thread has taken a downturn.

    The question has been answered, and I’ll add my opinion too - this is one of those super rare items which is impossible to value these days. And that is what priceless means. It means a price cannot be assigned to it.

    But I’m closing this now as it has turned into a discussion on trading ethics, which is not the purpose of this thread. You are welcome to start another thread on trading ethics, but it will not continue in this thread.

    I am leaving the comments here for now, however, as some of it does pertain to valuing that sword.

    There have been a few additions to my collection in recent months, and considering I haven't posted an update in a very long time, I found a bit of time this evening to sort through my images and bring my collection of shields up to date.

    Somehow over the past 8 years I have acquired 60 of these.

    Yep. I agree with everyone else.

    That’s one of the sexiest r9 shields in existence. Truly world class. You can’t compare it to a z-rank title, especially in today’s market where the credit carders can buy r12 zaishen with daddy’s credit card 😡

    You just can’t sell it. It’s virtually peerless.

  • shields vs demons/undeads

    Well, I’m out of the loop on prices these days, but demons shields have always been valuable. The trick is to find a DoA nutter to sell them to. Prices aren’t really set for demons shields because they’re quite often bid-warred by a couple of DoA nutters which pushes the price disproportionately high.

    Releasing all of them onto the market at the same time will devalue them all, as most people who want a demons shield only want one.

    But the tall, plague, gothic, echo and aegis could go high with enough interest. But you have to locate the aforementioned nutters first, and these days there aren’t many floating around.

    Afterthought: it’s worth pointing out that the +45/ench versions tend to be more sought after as they compliment the play style in DoA better than the -2/ench.

    Yeah... 600 is two to four times the value I’d expect. But then I recently overpaid by five times to secure a shield I needed, so it really does depend on who needs it.

    Items like this don’t have set prices. It’ll depend on who wants it.

    I have a r7 already so won’t be bidding, so that’ll affect how much it goes for. If I need it, I’ll go all out, but as I don’t, I won’t.

    Also, there are five (?) known r7 dual reduction round shields in existence.

    Certainly 100a+++ though. Same advice as your swords, don’t sell it ingame or to private bids.

    As to the anal rules you refer to, bear in mind that these threads are a reference to others looking up the history, so it’s important to keep the replies pertinent to the items in the top post. And not allowing early bumping keeps it fair for everyone.

  • Q8\16 Gold OS Eternal Shield--closed

    10-15 is low. Very low.

    Ok, it’s one off, but even so it’s still awesome. R8/16 eternals are popular, and it’s a desired mod combo. I’d add a zero to that. 100+ Might be possible. The perfect version would be several hundred arms.

    But it’ll depend on a bid war to go high, so 50a+ feels more like it. As usual, get other opinions.

  • Req 7 Perfect & Near Perfect Flamberge.

    I’d be a little more cautious. While triple digit armbrace numbers are possible with interest and a bid war, one of the mods isn’t perfect, and the other isn’t the most sought after.

    You’d need a flamberge collector or two to go to bid war against each other for it to go really high. And I’m not aware of anyone who collects just that skin. Otherwise you’re looking at the “oh my god it’s a r7 sword, I simply must have one” crowd, and they can be a fickle bunch. Again, it’s the mods which will hold them back.

    Keep in mind that just because I’m not aware of a specific collector for that skin, it doesn’t mean there isn’t one. I am after all somewhat out of the loop these days.

    Best bet is to list them for sale here, and don’t take offers in game - there are lots of people who will lowball you and you’ll end up ripping yourself off spectacularly. As hGt says, take your time.

    It’s worth adding here that these ridiculous (“greedy”) prices are facilitated by the cheaty bots which have flooded our economy with currency and caused this hyper-inflation in the first place. Greed can only be fed if the currency is there to fulfil it. Without bazillions of botted and purchased armbraces in circulation, the greedy prices cannot be met, and the greed would be kept in check, and prices would be more realistic.

    These artificially or “greedy” prices are a symptom of a much larger problem. And it’s the same problem that makes price checking such a thorny subject in GW2k18. And it’s why I retired. I predicted this in about 2013-4 ish.

  • Low Level Shields and their use?

    I have sold several r7/16 tactics -2/stance -2/ench shields to high level pvp players over the years. They all sold for absolute top money, even 4 years ago, they sold for 2000e. That would probably be 4-500a in today’s inflation-destroyed economy.

    Edit, before anyone asks... I have no idea why those stats are (were) particularly valuable.

    Yes. That’s a lovely shield. I’m not going to value it as I need it for my collection, and will be extremely interested.

    List it for sale here on Legacy, and do NOT sell it ingame or to Private offers - you’ll rip yourself off spectacularly.
