As someone who started playing in December of ‘06, well after these were discontinued I imagine, I’ve always been curious about how rare they were back in the day. I always knew what they were, but of course never ran into someone with one (until coming back and seeing the few in PhD). When they were obtainable, how rare are we talking? Obviously all the time between then and now adds to their rarity, same as many other discontinued/pre-nerf items, but is there a relative equivalent in terms of rarity?
Say, an unconditional back then was the equivalent of getting ___ nowadays? (I’ve heard similar talk of max r7s being somewhat common back then, having perhaps only become “important” over the passing of time).
Did they (unconditionals) drop from any location? On any skin? Or only from the keyless chests, where so many other pre-nerf relics came from? For how long after the game’s launch were these obtainable? Having not been around for that time in the game, I wish I had the opportunity to just spam those keyless chests over and over, just to see what it was like
Thanks in advance to those who know and were around at the time.
PS: For what it’s worth, back in like 2008/9-ish, I wanna say I heard a guy with the gwguru handle of Todeshand (or something like that) had an unconditional crystalline. Anyone else know anything about that? Never saw a screen of the alleged item, but I mean I guess it’s theoretically possible for one to have existed, yeah?

As in a similar thread I replied to a while back, I've seen an ooooold screenshot of Flint's Artifact having a green inventory icon (to match the actual color of the item) and not the standard blue icon that frost artifacts usually have. But idk if an "old" Flint's Artifact would still have that different icon or if they were all changed at some point.
Another that I forgot to mention in that thread was https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zarnas%27_Wrath.
Again unsure if the color change on the item (this time the item itself, not the icon) was retroactive.
Digging a little deeper just now, found this. A bunch of stuff shown in this is different now, whether it's mod order, mod wording, or % values. I'm sure the wording of a lot of it was a retroactive change, but this seems to be from when these were first released, which was before my time in the game. Ones with different % values (10/10 sundering on Bludgeoner for example) might still be the same? Honestly have no idea about these.

If you enjoyed shutting down enemies, there's nothing to say you can't opt for a similar play style on other professions. My first gwamm was my ranger and I ran a broad head arrow build for the bulk of it. Granted, this was about 13 years ago, so mesmers weren't what they currently are, and the vast power creep afforded by eotn cons/pve skills wasn't available at the time either (most of my first vanquisher/guardian was done pre-eotn). That said, some sort of caster shut down was almost necessary, so I'd bring BHA and a couple interrupts and just focus on snagging the key skills I saw. Damage output was super low, but it served its purpose.
On my sin (2nd gwamm) I ran temple strike for the same purpose. Perhaps a little less boring than the current dagger spam builds?
Necro was my 3rd gwamm and it honestly felt like the easiest of those three. Could maybe argue it has a little more viable build diversity than the others as well.
That's all I did before I took a massive break for gw2 (besides some work on a monk/derv), but now that I've come back to this game, I've started working on a rit, which would be gwamm #4. Even though I tend to just play a small variant of a single build on it, I like the option of viable diversity it has, if I do get bored.
Regarding your gripe about non-mesmer casters, you could always just handicap yourself a little bit and change your hero set up to allow for a varying pace/synergy in your play style.
Edit: I should add that I never really kept a rit/ele/para before quitting when gw2 came out. After my new rit, I'm most excited to go through everything with those other two first. Maybe just go for what's newest/most foreign to you? Try out different build comps just for the hell of it. Keep it interesting

I've got r12 and have never gotten any of the non-monthly EL tonics, or any of crystalline, eblade, obsidian edge. Best were a handful of voltaics. Big grats to you! Just a wee bit jelly

Should be noted though that the r8 Cele Bow seems to be pre nerf? Red and wiki's req chart both show the current max for a r8 bow being 14-27, whereas this one is 14-28. Still not max for a pre nerf r8 bow, but also perhaps still not currently obtainable. Should increase it's value, though I can't say by how much (esp since it has no inherent anyway). Do you know if you got the bow anytime somewhat recently? Or was this like, what would it have to be, 12+ years ago?
PS (don't reply to this until 24 hours after your initial post, as that acts as a bump. Save cosyfiep the headache)

I'm aware of Ziinjuu's Sanctuary, Wroth's Holy Rod, Wayward Wands (various stats, I believe?).
Kepkhet's Refuge also had it's color changed and stats rearranged, but I'm not sure if the originals retained their own version or if they were updated as well.
I've seen old screenshots of Flint's Artifact having a green icon, as opposed to the blue one it has now, but again not sure if that was an icon update for all versions or only newer.
Hassin's Shell used to have different stats but I'm pretty sure all of those were updated to the current version.
I'm sure someone else can point out something I missed.
