So, if you look at the first image uploaded for the forgotten fan on the unofficial wiki, dated 1 day after they were added to the game, the icon looks bright red. original icon
I don't have a forgotten fan on me atm, but I'm pretty sure the current one at least has a darker icon. If anyone can compare it to the one in that screenshot, that should give us our answer.

(what you're saying about the lighting could be the reason behind the different colors for the forgotten fan pictures, but I'm 99% certain they used to have an actually different shade of red as well) Maybe someone else remembers something about it.

The Brohn's/Gorrel's I've got have been around a hot minute then. Are you thinking other HSR prenerfs are from earlier as well now?
Also, something that came to mind recently...forgotten fans. Once upon a time, I remember hearing/reading that there were two different colors. I want to say I used to own a version of each, but if I did, that was many years ago. I don't know if the mod order was different from one color to another, but it was like a lighter or darker version of the previous color.
The English wiki images would suggest that was the case as well, but could just be different lighting idk.
Not sure if there were ever varying colors to the frozen and tattered fans, but I think frozen fans/icebreakers were added with the same update as forgotten fans/totem axes, so could be?

Managed to acquire 4 additional pre-nerf green staves. 2 of which already confirmed here (Illyana's and Jayne's Staff), and 2 new ones, not yet listed here (Brohn's and Gorrel's Staff). The icons and colors for both versions of Brohn's and Gorrel's appear to be the same.

That staff (or any weapon) cannot have an inscription added to it unless it has an inscription slot. It would read "Inscription: " That said, neither an adept staff head nor an aptitude inscription are much help for a spirit spamming build, as most of the skills used are spirits (not spells), and are thus unaffected by mods that affect spells (additionally, two of the spells in the given build have a 1/4s cast time, so the mods for reducing cast time are largely unneccessary).
However, the mastery wrap is fine, as those will affect all skills of a given attribute (not just spells).

There is no difference in functionality. But, they each allow something the other does not. Say, a +1 fire on an earth staff (if you're running some hybrid build and want that for whatever reason). As for "of mastery" it would allow +1 for attributes for which there are no +1 wraps (fast casting and energy storage, for example).
Aside from that, a fire staff of fire magic and a fire staff of mastery are the same thing.
