The dye system change is the current theory for the color changes. It's most evident with black-dyed greens. "Old" black (which some people may still have applied to their current armor sets) isn't as black as current black.

My guess is simple aesthetics on the mod orders (though it doesn't apply to all of the variations, I think).

As for Kepkhet's, it's the only known green to have more than one prenerf version. In my experience the brown prenerf is more rare, but why and when either of those changes happened is really anyone's guess.

Honestly I can't find a pattern or a real explanation to the new mod order.

From an aesthetic point of view it's hard to explain this one :

Some general comments on the new discoveries :

* Thanks to SolRockSF and Unholy we now have confirmation of the stat order change for all the 4 Kaolin staves (still unsure about the color change of the protection staff as this one is based on the german wiki picture and hasn't been seen In Game yet).

* Scar Eater / Khole Gauntlet / Galigord's Stone Scroll : the difference is really subtle, I'm still amazed that Unholy was able to actually spot them !

* Yakslapper / Brohn's Holy Rod / Runar's Brimstone Staff = Those were already in my potential prenerf list based on some pictures from an old french website. It's great to see them confirmed. Now that we have confirmation of the color difference on the "metal part', it's very likely there are prenerf version of : Gardock's Staff / Rago's Flame Wand / Galigord's Rod based on some old pictures.

* The color difference on the shields make me think that a prenerf version of Baubao's Shell is very likely.

* The addition of Shreader's Talons make it obvious that a prenerf Razorfang's Claw will be found.

* Rot's Putrescence: "Wiki makes mention of Rot's being one of the few uniques with mixed dye coloring". Once again the Wiki is very incomplete. I would say most the prenerf green with a different color are using some unreplicable color from the old dye system (Strongroot's Shelter for exemple). Also interesting to see that the picture on the official wiki seems to be way darker than the prenerf and the post-nerf version you posted !

* Razortongue's Recurve Bow / Sskai's Sword and other open a big can of worm. Previously we were mostly focusing on staves, wands and focus but those new discoveries show that all the weapon type might have a prenerf version with a different color.

* Shadestone / Yakslapper. Those green are really interesting, they have an unique skin unreplicable in PvE and their PvP version can't be dyed and yet there have a pernerf version with a different color !

* The stone reaper²

That's a big one, the fact that's it's a totally different green from a different campaign open the possibilities that **all** the green with a different mod order have 3 different versions. That could also explain why the prenerf Kaolin staff domination has the same color as the post nerf one.

I updated the original post :

* Included all of Unholy new discoveries. New total : 65 (Different stats=4 - Different mod order=23 - Different color=38)

* Cleaned and reorganised the charts

* Removed some dead links

* Deleted the "updated date" column that wasn't adding any new informations (all of those were updated sometimes around 2006)

The list is becoming quite big and it's not really effective to maintain it on legacy. I might switch to a shared google spreadsheet.

I don't know who tell you that but there are no penalty. You are free to do what ever you want with your item, you can post them on Legacy and decide to sell them in game, or decide to not sell them at all, or sell them to an offer that isn't the highest or what ever.

The only penalty is that some people might remember it and will be more hesitant to trade with you in the future.

I know some people who have traded GW1 items for GW2 gold or Oldschool Runescape currency. But those kind of trade aren't allowed on Legacy as far as I know (and there is always some risk involved as someone has to go first).

In the end if you are not really attached to the item and have no use for it you should consider selling it. Maybe you could use the arms and ecto down the line and it's always good to know your item ends up part of a bigger collection and you have made another collector happy.

Forty Second Rogue Seems you already confirmed your strongroot shelter. Maybe you have some other prenerf green on your storage/heroes ! On a side note if you still have it i might be interested in buying this one.

I updated the thread and reordered the list a little bit (trying to group the green that are the same type or share the same skin)

We current have 40 confirmed prenerf greens :

- 4 confirmed green with different mods (and sometimes color)

- 20 confirmed staves with a different mod order (and sometimes color)

- 1 confirmed martial with a different mod order

- 15 confirmed green with a different color

Some observations on the new greens :

- Milthuran's Staff fit the usual pattern (similar to stoneweaver for exemple)

- Spiritgarden's Repose I think the color is just pure green that why there is no difference.

- The Soulstone, huge color difference on this one. That's a great find, thanks Spun Ducky and Unholy !

- Gorrel's Cane, interesting one. There aren't that many wands with a different color. The image on all the wiki (official, unofficial and german) seems to be of the prenerf version that why it didn't come up in my potential list. Also interesting to see that the current color seems to be just pure grey.

This new addition also make me think that a prenerf version of the Vokur Cane is very likely to exist. I have then increased the rating from 1/5 to 4/5.

A note to the contributors :

- I have directly included your screenshot from legacy, so please don't edit/delete your original post or the screenshot will be lost

- I'm considering adding another colunm to credit the user who contributed the screenshot, let me know what you think about that

If you need a second opinion I agree with Mr Clean value, take every offer you can get (2-10e) or merch it.

Your price check is way too low imo.

A few weeks ago I sold a Q9 tall shield with +10 vs charr -2 wE for 12a. Sure tall is a better skin and charr has more use and more people that collect it.

It's still a prefect Q9 shield vs proph creature, i would at least see it in the 5-10a range.

On a side note dwarves shield are useful for chest running in the shiverpeak and also for some dungeons (Slaver Exile). But I agree that Tengu, Troll or Giants are mostly collector attribute.

All of those are from low level quest and random collector in pre-searing/ascalon.

Jeweled chalice. The mods are replicable so it won't appears in the wiki list. I would assume it's from another low level quest.

Longbow. The mods are replicable too. Very similar to the one you can get from this collector (https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ouran_Odwin) or this quest (https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Frontier_Gate_Fugitives). So I doubt it's prenerf.

On a side note, i would encourage you to check the account for other interesting prenerf stuff including :

- prenerf runes (wrong icon and or blue text). I collect them so feel free to PM me if you need more info on those.

- salvagable prenerf mods (X/10% sundering, furious)

- mixed dyes

- prenerf collector and quest items

On the top of my head here are some valuble prenerf quest/collectors items :

- HoD sword / HoD hammer / HoD Axe (and I guess you can include HoD bow but it's hard to spot it)

- Grim cesta -50hp with a healing requirement and from the same quest earth scroll with a healing requirement

- I think there is also a blue longbow req 3 with energy +5e and some prenerf weaponsmith staves that have an attribute specific HSR instead of a global 20% HSR

I would say the focus is more of a niche item is not as well known as the HoD sword. As for the price of the focus it will ultimately depend on collector interest and on a potential bid war.

I'm also interested in the item so I will agree with the previous posters, put it for sale on legacy and see where this goes.

For the exact date when the focus was changed we can't be 100% sure but we can have a pretty good idea, I was discussing this topic with another legacy member a few months ago, i will copy past my message from then :

Time to do a big update.

Update to the presentation :

* For the confirmed green : Added a new column called IG, to differentiate between the item that have been confirmed In Game (IG) or confirmed based on screenshot alone.

* For the potential green : Added a new column called Confidence, to indicate the chance that a prenerf green does exist

New confirmed prenerf green :

* Stoneweaver. The green was already confirmed based on German screenshot but thanks to Unholy we were able to confirm it in game and see the color difference. The German picture were replaced by Unholy pictures.

* Ogre Slaying Knife. Confirmed thanks to Unholy.

* Forgotten Fan. I was able to find a prenerf one in game, the item has been moved from potential to confirmed. Different inventory icon and different in game model (sceenshot below)

* Vera. Color change confirmed by Unholy. Even if the difference isn’t very obvious on the picture it does exist. It’s easier to see it while switching between the two versions in game.

* Arius’Sai. New one that I just found. The current in game version is different from the german wiki screenshots. This item is the first confirmed prenerf martial with a different mod order !

New potential prenerf greens.

In light of the recent new additions I have double checked all the prophecies martial weapons, wands and focus, comparing their screenshot between the 3 wiki (official/unofficial/german) and 2 old french fan site.

The very tedious work wasn’t for nothing and I was able to identify more than 10 new potential prenerf greens. Here are the most interesting one :

* Shreader's Talons (extremely likely, the german wiki even mention that there exist one with a different color).

* Razorfang's Claws (very likely based on the screenshots), skin similar to Chkkr and Shreader

* The Soulstone

* The Stonehart

* The Brimstone

* Rago's Flame Wand

New patterns :

All those new additions gave us a better understanding of the different prenerf green patterns :

* The addition of Arius’Sai is opening a whole new category. It’s the very first confirmed prenerf martial (dagger) with a different mod order.

* The addition of the ogre slaying knofe and the forgotten fan show that all the focus that aren’t using the default could potentially have a prenerf version with a different color.

* The addition of Vera (confirmed) and Shreader's Talons (potential) show that all the martial weapons that aren’t using the default color could potentially have a prenerf version with a different color.

* The pre-nerf=lighter and post-nerf=darker rule hold true for the vast majority of the greens (Vera is the small exception).

* By looking at some very old screenshot (early 2006) we were able to find some 2 greens with different inventory icons (Ogre slaying knofe and Flint Artifact). The current icon are the regular undyed icon of their associated skin (grim cesta and water artifact respectively) while the old one were closer to the color of their in game model.

Last but not least, I would like to thanks all the people that have contributed to this thread, keep on the good work !

The jelly is merch cause single mod.

The longbow is merch, it's far from max damage even for Q8 post nerf.

The shield isn't max armor either and would be merch most of the time. But it's a skin I collect and I'm interested to save it for a few ecto.
