I would not neglect the big update theory that you mentioned.
Might be a first indication of the major incoming patch that finally introduces useful features such as fast travel via map.
But better be careful revealing such significant discoveries in a public thread. ArenaNet and other powerful organizations might have their Eye of Providence on this...

There are multiple ways:
- 1. Buy the staff fully modded from another player or hope that a friendly player in your guild/alliance will gift you one.
- 2. Another easy way is to buy a channeling staff from the NPC Manzo in Kaineng Center and upgrade this staff with two mods: 1) An adept staff head and 2) a staff wrapping of mastery or channeling magic.
- 3. Exchange a blessing of war that you get from other players at the Zaishen Weapon Master in the Isle of the nameless near great temple of balthazar (gtob) for a Balthazar Channeling staff. Upgrade this staff with 1) an adept staff head 2) the inscription "aptitude not attitude" and 3) a staff wrapping of mastery or channeling magic.
The mods/upgrades you can buy for ingame currency from other players. Usually they would ask you per mod/upgrade 1-2 globs of ectoplasm in Kamadan american districts that is a popular trading area. Alternatively, hope for the help of your guild/alliance.

Agree that PvP is dead. If you search for an enjoyable PvP-experience that is not only focused on maximizing titles by any means (empty, bots, synchronizing), GW is the wrong game.
PvE agree on the economy perspective, but you still can enjoy various speedclears (small but active community) or casual PvE with Zaishen- Mission/Bounty/Vanquish where you always find real players.

- agree that spawn rate is poor in this run. But the exteme short duration compensates. Kinda boring though and I got tons of armor dropped..
- 3 ally shadow-steps on canthan ally npcs on the way (requires some practice for perfect execution) + HoS/vipers usage + dc on foe near chest for fastest run. take heroes with you to securely avoid any usage of skills other than running + shadow steps. Heroes dont affect chest drops.

Is not the nicest skin on monk and DF req kinda useless (old issue with the rare faction monk staves that drop only df & smite.. I dont know what the anet-team smoked when they decided about the attribute distribution on sick monk staff-skins like zodiac/celestial/forbidden but that stuff must be hitting hard).
Req 9 should make it collectible though.

basics - considering OS items that still can drop, being max damage, excluding specific collector likes and postnerf max for lower reqs than q9.
- Single mod shields, wands and foci are worthless.
- dual mod shields, wands, foci can have no worth (mods are too much off or useless) to enormous worth. Ignore the reqs here first of all!! Mods > reqs in this domain!
Here it becomes a bit complicated as of the massive amount of mod combinations. In doubt get a price check here on the forum if the item is dualmod.
- for shields you look after 30hp + x (x being preferably useful creature/dmg type mods like e.g. undead/charr/demons, 1/20% attribute, -2wS, -2wE)/ or 45hp wEnch + x or / 45hp wE + -2wE/ or 45hp wStance + -2wS combination.
But even if it is significantly off on one or even both mods (example +10 demons / 41hp wE Exalted aegis being sold for 100a+) dualmodded items can still have huge value. Once again: get a price check in doubt!
- wands and foci you look after are 20/20, 20/19, 20/10, 10/10 (on lower reqs) and 20 15/-1eregen. 20 here standing for a preferably matching attribute. Single prof (e.g. inscribed chakram) less worth than multi prof (e.g. straw effigy).
- Staves unless they are 20/20 matching or useful attribute combinations are worthless. 20/10 req 9 staves can have double digit ecto value. 20/20- single profession drops (holy branch, inscribed staff etc) are usually way less valuable than multi-prof items (bo-staff, zodiac staff, celestial staff etc.)
- martials usually dont have value unless they are req 8 (swords, in the following not respected as they have always value) or req9 dual vamp/dual zeal/+5e (latter on sword & axe). This can vary with the skin.
Some rare skins can be valuable still with 15/50, but usually martials with 15/50 are definetly merch-food unless req 9.
- 15ench / 15 stance / 15 hex and such martials usually dont have value ( = value <10e) anymore. No matter which req (9-13) and skin (very few examples left) you dont want these. In the time trying to sell these items you could generate more value by simply doing other activities instead.

- 'Taktik' I can confirm above statement: (excellent skills!) means Strength.
But depending on the context Taktik can also mean Bratwurst-Sauerkraut-Blitzkrieg-Lederhosen Tactics
- 'Dämonen' is German for butterflies
- '+41 Lebenspunkt' is German for additional 41 energy regeneration
- 'bei Verzauberung' is German for while drunk (i.e. unconditional for a German)
- '364 Gold' is German for 364 Nazi-Gold
