I did the same when I returned in spring this year: I created a new charcter (a Mesmer, which I didn't have yet) and grinded LDoA. I assume it will take a bit longer with a Warrior than it took with a Mesmer. The fire imp helps a lot.
The downside on starting in Prophecies is that playing low levels and small groups drags way too long. I usually skip the jungle and run from LA to ToA and from there to Sanctum Cay.

The email is correct. I recovered my account early this year and the responses came from [email protected] as well. In addition to the data you already mentioned, they might ask you for your email address used in the account and the date when you registered the account as well. I could tell account creation only roughly ("must have been within those 2 months") and only vaguely remembered the email address from 15 years ago, but that was good enough for them.

I assume a lot of the people currently playing again did account recovery, so the support is busy.

    Welcome.

    1. Unlike many MMOs, the grind in Guild Wars is not "mandatory" as there is no grind for "better gear". You'll get "max armor" and "max weapons" early and easily. The grind mostly revolves around prestige items that are rare, may look nice, but do not have any better stats.

It doesn't seem like it's a full graphical remaster but rather a lot of rendering improvements.

A full graphical remaster would require more detailed models (higher polygon count) and new textures with higher resolution. Both are unlikely as they would be a lot of effort (=money).
I'm still excited. Official Steam Deck compatibility may improve controlling options for running GW on phones/tablets with Winlator as well.

Mesmer and Ranger play differently, IMO it is hard to measure a "power difference" between them. Both are good in general and excel at different tasks. My preference for Mesmer is because of ranged combat: I do not like running to foes. If there was a (non-elite) PvE shadow step with a recharge time of <=5 seconds, I might reconsider. And I really fell in love with the "Panic" spell.
The "power" of your player character doesn't matter that much, as good heroes can do all the work for you. I suggest playing what you like to play - this is a game after all.

I will stick with Ranger then, created one yesterday. Thanks!

Will you enjoy playing an assassin? Because that's the most likely playstyle you'll be running on your ranger, as bows are weak. It is a lot of fun (at least I enjoy my ToA ranger a lot), but it might not be what you consider "playing a ranger".

Mesmer is a lot of fun as well and is exactly what I started new when I returned to the game beginning this year. I finally did a "Legendary Defender" since I didn't have that title on any of my old characters.

Thanks. I'm still considering whether I want to join an active guild. There are things I'd like to do (like Urgoz/Deep/DoA HM) that I either can't do alone or that will take a lot more time alone than with other players. On the other hand I don't want to be in a place where other people expect/"force" me to play a specific schedule. I was in a WoW progress guild 2004/5 and while that was fun, I'll never comit to that playstyle again. I bought a fresh 2nd account with the sale as well, I use it to "store" my own Urgoz ferry, donate additional heroes to my Urgoz-runs and an elemenatlist and assassin to quickly run my toons from the main account through Imperial Sanctum, Ruins of Morah and A time for Heroes when those Zaishen missons are up. (I still need lot of Zaishen Coins for bag upgrades, they didn't exist yet when I left). That 2nd account could save guild leadership of my old guild. I also use my own guild to freely switch between Kurzick and Luxon if I want to dump faction.

Hi. I returned after ~16 years. I started with Nightfall and shortly after bought Proh/Factions/Eotn and stopped playing around early 2009. Beginning this year, I found my old game boxes with access codes and asked ANet to recover my account (I didn't have my password any more), and to my surprise they did that after asking some more information. I created a new main, mesmer this time. My previous main was an elementalist, but I didn't want to depend on enchantments any more since enchantment removal is ubiquitious. And mesmers got a lot better for PvE while I was away. GW made me guild leader of my old casual PvE guild. all other players are gone. But since the guild has a fully upgraded guild hall, this is now my private "home".

I now try stuff I never experienced "last time", like doing DoA, Urgoz or Eotn dungeons alone with heroes. This week, I did my first time ever HA, which is now pretty much PvE as well, since most teams seem to be bots or single players (like me) with 7 henchmen. I even got to see the Hall of Heroes some times, standing no chance against teams with multiple human players - but it was nice to be there anyway. This was out of curiosity, my focus will be PvE. But now I have some Z-keys as a "souvenier".
