How Do You Trade/Sell Names In A Secure Manner?

  • With or without Legacy, it's too late. Players have seen how high the prices can get. Everyone knows it. That won’t stop those who want to from trying to pay a high price for a name. And honestly, when you’re willing to put up xxx or xxxx armbraces for a single-word name, it means you have a lot more in reserve. It doesn’t matter if the trade doesn’t go through. It’s a drop in the bucket.

To me, this also marks the end of a cycle. There will be a “before” and an “after” 2weeks/reforged. Just as there was a ‘before’ and an “after” when GW2 was released (mass exodus from GW1). In short, it’s going from bad to worse. I’ve been saying for years that Anet shouldn’t mess with the game’s code anymore, or else they’d end up creating problems. That’s so true today.

I've seen quite a few newbies running around pre-Ascalon as well as Shing Jea Island, which is a healthy sign even if some parts of the game might be going south... Let's not make forums that are meant to assist and welcome new and old players alike turn into sleazy speakeazies... It's still a classic, fun game, and I think it has a few years left. Give it a chance. Change is always difficult;)

  • What I mean, specifically, is that 2weeks and Anet plan features through a contract with deadlines. Right now, 2weeks isn’t capable of fixing certain bugs. (In fact, in one of the latest updates, a simple symbol for the dungeon post was supposed to appear on the map but didn’t even show up—that’s how incompetent they are.)

So, isn’t the fact that they’re unlocking single-word names and removing discounts during the anniversary period an admission of failure, just to pad the coffers? If 2weeks were more competent, would single-word names be available today? Were they planned as part of the content to be released under the contract and schedule?

You’re going to tell me that we need to give them more time, that it’s an alpha, and so on. But that’s exactly the problem—I think they’re already behind schedule. These issues weren’t anticipated, and (time will tell) all the Reforged content might be buggy. In short, they won’t be able to keep up with the schedule. And that the whole single-word-name thing will be just the first in a long list of features added solely to make up for their failures.

I have seen alot more players across the game which has been a blessing honestly. I know you typically look at things from a glass half empty point of view, but I think some of the things they have done outweigh the bad. I get wanting certain things to be encapsulated in time, such as old weapons and OS only in presearing. I totally agree. But I also see the bonus it adds to the game, where I can actually pop into a random outpost and find atleast one person wanting to run a mission or VQ.

That said, I do not think that the time quota is a thing as it took a month of no updates to release the pre dungeon. They also, came full circle, fixed 60/60 items like they said they would, and also fixed the skill updates they said they would, albiet 3 months later. They are trying it seems.

I think the "name event" we'll call it, was a proof of investment. Allowing anet to see what people put into the game and are willing to spend. Im sure it created alot of revenue and they sure as hell are looking at that as a ROI and how much they should invest. I dont think they considered it would create a really shady market, much like OSRS names.

We will see what happens next, I do hope they are conservative with their updates, oppose to introducing things into the game which are unintended by the team. Only time will tell, but the activeness of guild wars is a blessing.

  • Well, GW Reforged is still in alpha/beta mode and judging by their recent update releases, I would agree that they might be a little cash-strapped too... Glad I bought most of my slots as well as expansions before April...:P

I do hope there'll be more transparency from ANet/2weeks for future updates as well as potential changes to the game, especially if they are major one, but that might be over wishing on my part... Maybe we'll figure out a way to reach out to them someday like in the good old days, or vice versa...

  • Please use a normal font like the rest of us, the boldness does not help you get your point across Mr Ferret.

Id like to see reforged be added standard, without a badge for each character by default. Transparency would be great as well, but at this point I think they are still figuring out how the code works and trying to create hype.

Fair enough. But once they sort through it and understand it, id love to see updates that are intentional. Like mausoleum items, it was another mistake made previously. It is extremely difficult to have OS items, and Insc items drop from the same chest, with the unintended consequences being 3 mod items. Who knows when we will see OS in pre again due to that one problem alone.

I even went so far as to think that Silver Edge, back in 2021, was heading in that direction. See how people reacted to it before possibly planning a project that would be called: Reforged.

(But anyway, I’m totally off-topic here, sorry)

We used to have a saying back in the days during GvG, and I guess most will remember for sure... 'ANet has hamsters running the servers...:cursing:'

    Guess those hamsters got promoted...🤣

  • Well, I'm still a licensed user with 4 active accounts regardless of how long a break I've taken... Hope you're not saying that new or old returning players are not welcome to share their opinions... :/

However, if it's me you don't like or agree with, I'm fine with that... The feeling is mutual after the sales I made and the run around you had me do after... GG on that btw

  • Your views on prenerf, after getting 1500a to play with seems hypocritical. What about other returning players who need some walking around money and found old items? They should be left to struggle now that you have sold yours? Make all prenerf drop again because thats what a Farret wants?

I too returned after a very long hiatus 8 years ago. Im not saying your opinion is moot, but the essays you have written go against what the majority of active players want. I personally still want items to work towards of value, such as prenerfs. Without that, the only thing to save for in the game is a mini Althea. Carry on, and I am still waiting for a detailed breakfast narration.

Anyways this is getting off track. Back to names.

  • The sales of character name threads are becoming horribly annoying as well as disgusting, and I'm pretty sure many are uncertain as to where this is all leading to due to a 'trusted trade mod' shutting shop, so let's have a poll.

Totally forgot about this and I really hate being tardy...

Polls have ended and it shows a high number of forum users agree that GWLegacy should not encourage the sale of names on the forum.

As some have pointed out, the sale of in-game names falls within a grey area which might or might nor contravene the EULA. At the end of the day, it all depends on how such names are transferred across accounts as well as whether scams occur as well as persist within this new market.

In general, to 'allow' or 'permit' the sale of names on the forum is an encouragement. While pricing of items can be easily checked and placed within certain in-game monetary brackets, bids on names depends on individual preferences. Furthermore, some names which are put up for sale may be inappropriate or hurtful due to the vast volume of languages and may likely slip through moderation. Once again, what is inappropriate is subjective.

It is highly doubtful that the matter needs to be discussed further but please feel free to add further thoughts and opinions to the thread.

End of the day, it is up to the forum moderators to clean up the threads or continue as usual.

  • I also notice that there are some WTB threads for single word names. (I wish I could close one of those threads by saying, I own that name; I'm not selling it, so you can close your thread).
