Some sort of really annoying graphic issue ^^^^ since I reinstalled the game (havent played for over a year) I have a new laptop, its windows 10. quite a few people in the game appear to have this extremely long beam come out of them which is very visually distracting.
I have tried running in compatibility mode for XP and Vista, neither makes a difference.
Any idea what I can do to get rid of it?
I remember seeing a thread on this same issue on gw2guru and it looks like Marty (one of our mods here) had a solution that people are currently using:
is forcing the game to run in DirectX 8 via command line.
The game was meant for directX 8 or 9...so that may fix it for you.
Not sure what causes it (it's not Windows 10 - I'm running it and have no issues whatsoever) but everyone I've come across with the problem has fixed it by forcing DirectX 8. I've seen other solutions suggested but they don't seem to work for everyone.
How does one force direct-X 8?
With the command line argument. You may be familiar with -image, which forces the client to download all files before loading the log in screen. Forcing DirectX 8 requires -dx8 instead.

Marty, it might be a combination of windows 10 and what computer you are using---so if you have a really nice rig perhaps gw plays nice on windows 10, but if you say, had an older (or different processor) one perhaps that is where the issues are with windows 10 and gw.

I'm well aware of that, I was just pointing out it's not specifically W10 that does it. In any case, your example is backwards - given this is faulty rather than poor behaviour it's more likely that newer hardware will cause the issue. I've seen some games that are dependent on certain instruction sets in AMD cpu's that aren't included in the newer ones, causing characters to appear as black blobs if you're not using one from that era.
my example was just an example....so it could be the faster computers cant handle the old game and the older ones can, whichever way it might be--that may be more of the issue than yes, windows 10. Though windows 10 is a known factor as is guildwars, so I was trying to figure out the unknown ones since no one has mentioned what rigs they are using to play gw.
