Seventh Bump Thursday 21st Feb 12:37

Sixth Bump Tuesday 19th Feb 20:50

Fifth Bump Saturday 16th Feb 18:51.
Fourth bump Friday 15th Feb 16:24.
Third bump Thursday 14th Feb 13:01.
Second bump Wednesday 13th Feb 12:41.

First bump Sunday 10th Feb 12:41.

Made this into a new thread as it is a big enough topic to not be caught up in the other one.

It is a huge shame that a developer has to reduce it's staff, hopefully the people effected by the restructuring manage to find new jobs quickly. I wonder if the new things they were working on were new IPs or more tangents of the GW World.

    https://uk.ign.com/articles/2019/…not-be-affected

At least some better news as GW fans in this recent article on IGN where ArenaNet are quoted saying that this restructuring won't affect GW and GW2.

    Quote

ArenaNet send IGN the following statement:
"We can confirm that due to the cancellation of unannounced projects, ArenaNet will make staff reductions. This is part of a larger organizational restructuring within NCSOFT in the west, but the Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 game services will not be affected, nor is any upcoming game content canceled."

Sadly as companies reach the end of financial years they review the last year's performance and make the business decisions to move the future in the direction they want to go.

I switched to KAOS's GW Launcher a few weeks ago after being sceptical and having used GW MultiLaunch since it came out.

It works flawlessly for using multiple accounts, and has the added benefit that you can setup multiple accounts to run from the same .dat file. I think it has the option to use the same .dat for ALL accounts but that brings with it in-game limitations.

The only issue with it is that it has to launch in Administrator mode for every game which is just extra hassle but I can understand why.

The biggest one though is unlike GW MultiLaunch there isn't a way to setup a client to launch without adding your login information. This is only a concern as you're putting your login information into a 3rd party application. I'm sure the application isn't recording/sending the data but that's what put me off using it initially. I just use it for storage accounts and not my main one.

Updated edit 12th June - Today I was told that you don't actually h ave to put any login details in. If you just link it to an executable then it will launch the client with out any login information. This is good news!

It is a shame that a lot of the information and discussion from ArenaNet has been lost over the years what with guildwars.com being streamlined and links removed, and GWGuru going down. They used to post there and discuss things. I'm sure some things can be picked out of the wiki but it is a bit of a pain to trawl through to find things.

I've considered doing a regular look-back at certain updates in GW's history and pull together the info such as updates, balance changes etc. so that players these days have a form of reference for the history of the game and how things have changed. It is just rather time consuming to start!

I saw your reddit post, I replied there too but it was a rather long reply. :D

OSRS was splintered off from RuneScape 2/3 due to the falling population in the game, a game still financed by monthly fees and adverts from what I understand. Since Guild Wars was planned in to be in maintenance mode whether 100'000 people or 100 people play I don't see how that would make any difference, that's not to say it wouldn't be nice but the business decision was probably made 10years ago.

There is also the risk that as GW doesn't bring in income from ads/subs that ArenaNet could just cut their losses and close it (as RuneScape Classic), or even NCSoft's other titles like City of Heroes which HAD a monthly fee and they still shut it down.

Because GW2 was a big graphical, gameplay, and content update from GW1, but Arenanet barely supports their old game. RuneScape 3 was also a big graphical, gameplay, and content update, but they went back and supported OSRS and just had a $50k tournament--the game is played in a browser with very simple graphics. People have told me that it's the fault of GW's community that GW1 is in maintenance mode right now, and I can understand that.

My understanding is that Oldschool RuneScape is just a previous version of RuneScape 3, (a game they change the name of when the do major updates). Their old game is RuneScape Classic, which imo would make it a better comparison.

Which people have said that it's the fault of GW's community that GW1 is in maintenance mode? I would have thought maintenance mode was planned in during the development (and future) of GW2? Implemented nearly six years ago, but must have been planned way before that.

I dug out some articles about the maintenance mode news, these are from May 2013.

    https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/05/21/gui…lted-automated/

    https://www.engadget.com/2013/05/17/are…automates-game/

    http://mmofallout.com/guild-wars-is-in-maintenance-mode/

Here's the post from guildwars.com I found on the internet archive

It is a fact that Arenanet has all but walked out on GW1. Jagex, on the other hand, just had a $20k prize for first place in a PvP tournament in Oldschool, yes, you read right, Oldschool RuneScape. They still release content for that game, fix bugs, and police it. Now, it is true that there are just as many botters and cheater in OSRS as there are in GW. It is true that every game has them, whether the company is supporting the game or not. I mean, I can live without big ol' content updates and still play GW1, because it's a challenging game, intricate, and I've invested so much time and know so much about it. But as far as making an art of theorycrafting builds like I used to do on PvX, somehow learning something I could take with me in a career as a game designer; or as far as taking pride in in-game achievements--these things I am caring about less and less.

This is not really related, but I think we would better spend thousands of hours learning, playing, and mastering games that we know will be around forever, and hold some real-world prestige beyond the stories we tell about the game to friends and family.

Is there a reason why you compare Guild Wars to Oldschool RuneScape rather than RuneScape Classic?

I don't know any online based games that are guaranteed to be around forever. Many have disappered over the last few years.

But we never get an official answer if they have even thought about it or if it`s posible. There`s still people working in Anet that worked on GW1. And i guess they have some sort of guides for things they develop, because you never know when a guy is gonna leave the company.

It feels like a dream. Just post this kind of stuff in reddit and quote Bill and company.

Sure we do, the official answer is: there is no development for Guild Wars.

Why would they make guides for a game they no longer support?? Most of the people have left the company and the few that remain that did some work on GW don't know enough.

Yes it is a dream. You're right about that.

Legacy Forum has a built in gwbb code displayer!

It will display builds & skills like this:

    Build

    [build=OQYWETaWRkpuVFN9vANrfrYT7W]

    Skill

    [Fire Storm]

The skills in individual and builds have a tooltip (hover-over) so you can see the name and details of the skill. You can also copy the build code from within a build post as well as see the primary and secondary professions.

    Individual Skills [Fire Storm]

    1. Find the full name of the skill using the skill text or GWWiki. (Fire Storm)

    2. Press the 9bdAljT.png button or type out the gwbb [open] and [/close] tags as below

    2a. Use the following syntax:

It's as simple as that! (Don't forget to refresh page after each submission/edit).

I hope that helps with skill and build posts. Any questions or suggestions just ask.

No, you can still get to the outpost and do the mission without taking the quest.

I don't see any mention that it stops you getting the quest if you've already reached the outpost or done the mission but it is something that could easily be confirmed.

I think it means you may have accepted it but as it doesn't show up in your quest log in-game it wouldn't have been easy to identify to tick-off when you did complete it.

One very small thing Id like to see would be an addition to the "Armbraces to ecto" rate display on the forum overview page to include the Ecto/Zkeys exchange rate.

Over the years Zkeys seem to have transitioned from Chest title opening items to a completely parallel payment method for mid to high end trades.

This is interesting, and with my comment above as well about Ecto to Plat added.

    So we could have
    Ecto : Platinum
    Ecto : Zaishen Key

    Ecto : Ambrace

Question is, how can this be defined in order to stay accurate enough to rely on it. Do we need to canvass people who are involved in the game/trades on a regular basis? Ecto:Platinum isn't too bad because you could just take the mean between Trader Buy & Sell, but the others are harder to define.

Sadly no API for GW so it all has to be done manually too.

I thought I was transparent with the alliance project since I've talked about it last year on both Facebook and this website, there just isn't a lot of interest.

Yes the discord over all is still linked to FB & this site.

I'm open to suggestions on how to be more transparent in regards to the alliance project.

Maybe I missed the info could you link to it?

I will comment on the Xunlai idea of tags and having multiple threads...it didnt work on guru if you remember bsolt (as you were a mod at the time they were around if I remember correctly)...ultimately we got rid of them and got rid of high end as there just wasnt enough threads.

We will, however, look into a better way to 'tag' threads in Xunlai.....

Well, it helped to identify threads iirc but like you say people would still mix up the contents or there wasn't enough to justify it. I doesn't mean it couldn't be implemented in a better way or work better now. The times I look at Xunlai forum I see more and more threads for high-end items worth lots of Ecto and not so much the low-end. We don't need a split forum which there may have been at one point too but as an improvement for people that don't want to click on every thread to know if they can afford what may be mentioned. It's just a thought though, may not be feasible as you say. :)

Some of the things below I'm thinking of as I write so sorry its a bit long and rambling!

    Chat

Chat boxes just get filled with spam, and a bit like the Off-Topic forum couldn't that be used? Or if you want more of a live discussion then theres a Legacy Discord and GW Global Discord. Sure you need another account but it can be accessed in web browser, it is linked to from here and is already populated and moderated and most importantly active.

On the topic of Discord; what is happening with the Guild Wars Legacy Discord? Is it linked to this site any more? Is it linked to GW Legacy Guild/Alliance? Is it linked to the GW New Hope group? Mr Crow seems to have set things up but it hasn't been very transparent.

    Forum Layout

Forum wise I think there should be less sub-forums, not more. The current ones could even be consolidated.

For the Builds and Content; Individual, Team, Farming, Speed Clearing could all be put in one that then becomes more active.

Can we bring back the labels/tags for threads? That way you could have one Subforum with tags to identify the threads. Individual/Team/SC/Farm/Chest Run etc.

That way you don't have multiple low activity Sub-Forums but have an easy visual for the topic of individual threads.

Streaming and Video and Creative Works could be combined into one as well.

I don't think it is necessary to have as many/the same sub-forums as GWGuru used to have. There just isn't enough disucssion and content these days to have it separated out.

    Guru Archive

Is it possible for you to see how many hits the Guru Archive gets and which parts of it as to its usefulness? Would it be useful to remake guides and information on Legacy and remove access to them on Archive if it is a lot of space/cost to upkeep. Maybe having a Guru Archive while historic isn't the best because it means people don't have to create new content.

    Guides

Alot of PvE players are making interesting guides and build theories to try and now optimise and improve as much as possible, but people have taken to using PvX and GWSC wikis(?) (wikii?) for creating build guides rather than posting them here. Could cross-posting even be considered as it might make them easier to find and be commented on/discussed with different areas of the community. Maybe discuss that with the people making them. I see Krschkr used to post some Team Builds on Legacy but now posts to PvX and Reddit.

    Xunlai/Trading

The trading forum seems like the most active part of the forum, could there be any improvements made there? I see that auctions are mentioned in this thread, but trading via forum always seemed to be preferrable.

You have in the sidebar the trading rate of Ambraces to Ecto; how often is that updated/how accurate is it? Is it possible to do the same thing for Platinum to Ecto?

These days a lot of people seem to trade in Ecto, even for items that are lower-end. I think it would give some clarity to that for people that might want to do trading but don't have stacks of Ecto and aren't au fait with daily trading rates.

As with the thread tags I mentioned above, could they be introduced for Selling threads to identify when peope are selling really high-end stuff. Allow people to have two threads one in each tag so they can list things and people have an idea of prices.

One of the things with GW trading is it can take a long time to understand the market, not just the price of something but what is worth something and what isn't.

This would be something an auction based site could do if it tracks prices and can average them, but being able to accurately price-check items based on what they're sold for could be really handy.

    Forum Content

Mods forum should be renamed to In-Game Modifications/Applications for clarity. Put in some effort to find, host, and explain the more useful texmods. Make a proper guide for setting up and installing umod for GW with an FAQ. Have proper info and examples of the good texmods as Wiki isn't the easiest place to find info and is pretty outdated. You could also have a request a texmod option if there are people out there that would make such things. Now that we're into the stage of the game where QoL things are much more handy people may have good ideas vs turning your bow into a banana.

    Legacy General

What is the Articles link in the heading in comparison to the Legacy News forum, couldn't just one be used?

Social Media link on the heading only links to Facebook groups, could that be renamed?

There are 8 people in the 'Legacy Team'/Moderators but I don't think it is that clear what their roles are and how they are involved. Guru used to show the forum moderators on the forum list but this forum doesn't do that. Maybe a page/post with the brakedown of their involvement.

There was a lot of commentary and discussion about the recent Wintersday competition teaser on Reddit/Discord. Some thought into how to publicise future Legacy events with a decent level of transparency.

    ArenaNet on the case:

Any word on the 0% loading bug after disconnecting?

    Technical question

Normally it's not too big a deal, if you get disconnected while in town or such you just reload the game and you don't have to worry about it - but it's actually a big problem when doing dungeons and stuff, reconnecting just fine to your current floor but then never loading past 0% when you try to zone to the next floor.

    BillFreist ArenaNet

Somehow this issue has eluded my attention. I'll look into it.

It wouldn't even equalise the economy. People already know the best areas to farm and where the popular items drop. That isn't something that would change with this. What will happen is people will just gravitate to the same farms and speedclears but doing it quicker to try and personally benefit.

The population that would want to do something like this is also tiny, if anyone did move over then then I doubt people still wouldn't play Prophecies or do unecesary missions etc. as they would want to end-game as quick as possible.

If the main reason for this is to play the game with other people, then the best thing to do is seek out the people and not try and force a new game mode which will be under-populated.

For example: a group has setup a Discord server for players that wanted to find others and more importantly a schedule to be able to play through campaigns. This has worked very well and become very popular. This is different than just joining a highly populated Guild because the likelyhood of still finding players at the same position in the game is small.

Buying a new account and not going to Kamadan almost has same effect.

There are a lot of people enjoying playing the game back through with no items or money traded down to new characters so that’s happening too.

What reason would there need to be a ‘market’ reset other than to try and make money in a new market.

Lexx I saw your post on Reddit:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/co…d_list/e0nuevt/

Does this mean the some of the text that is currently being spammed in outposts is not detecable by the ChatFilter? I've tried updating my file but I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing it wrong as the messages still appear in-game.

    JizrCUy.png

The arenas aren't required to max your cartographer so mapping them seems pointless, I could see why people purposfully queuing not to fight would trigger some kind of manipulation script on Anets side which is a shame and must have been very annoying!

Getting low level characters into PvP arenas could be interesting though.. specially if they go to the effort of unlocking skills available in other campaigns while keeping their level low enough to compete in the arena.

edit1: I just realised that with tomes that makes that very easy too. ^^

    edit2: armour though.

Hi, I replied to a post about Factions on this topic too, and I don't want to take away from what you want to organise AT ALL. Just to say that there is an existing Discord server where exactly this kind of play-through is being organised across NA and EU, along with others from other timezones.

You could jump on and offer to organise your own slot, there are already lists of people that are willing/waiting to play with others.

It is a good place to get in contact with others looking to play through the game together, all levels of experience are OK.

You'll find more info in the Discord: https://discord.gg/Nnb7E9h

    Hi everyone,

    • Some players may be experiencing network issues while trying to login to Guild Wars, as they may have authentication set up on their account and it locked them out of the game. If you’re affected by this, we added in yesterday’s last update a modal dialog to enter the two factor authentication code for your login session. You can also try to authorize your network the following way:
    • Check the e-mail to your registered address, or an SMS, or a security code on your mobile authentication app. You should have received an authentication code that needs to be confirmed at https://account.arena.net/security/settings
As you attempt to log into the website, you will find the system requesting you confirm your log-in. Please use the most recent code you received. Once you’re logged in, confirm your network there. You will then be able to log into the game
Please also note that you will need to follow these steps each time you attempt to login from a new network address
    • If none of those solutions work for you, please contact our Customer Support at https://help.guildwars2.com Provide as much information as you can so that agents can process your request as efficiently as possible.
