    Thanks to the last two posts, this is now working nicely for me;

I came to explain how it was working in Messages, but it is exactly as Red Fireball explains. Looks like it hasn't worked but it has sent the message just the screen hasn't refreshed although when you do refresh your message still appears in the box as if you're about to post.

edit: Yep and just like above it happened when replying to this thread for me too. xD

I was looking up something and got to Gaile's wiki page.

    What's your history with ArenaNet?

I started with ArenaNet in September 2000. Today, I am Employee #2, after Mike O'Brien, our president. I was thrilled when the ArenaNet Co-Founders -- Mike, Pat, and Jeff -- reached out to me to invite me to join the team. The fact that ArenaNet looked at community relations as a critical part of their company, and not as something that could be added just before the release of a game, was refreshingly different. A continued interest in and novel level of community input and engagement remains a cornerstone of ArenaNet to this day. Of course, joining so early means I was answering fan letters and working on communications long before Guild Wars was even announced. All and all, I've been interacting with players, liaising with the dev team, and communicating about the company and the game for 18 years, and I'm still as excited about my job as I was in the early days.

I didn't know she was the second employee. A shame to go out with this 'cloud' over the company.

Made this into a new thread as it is a big enough topic to not be caught up in the other one.

It is a huge shame that a developer has to reduce it's staff, hopefully the people effected by the restructuring manage to find new jobs quickly. I wonder if the new things they were working on were new IPs or more tangents of the GW World.

    https://uk.ign.com/articles/2019/…not-be-affected

At least some better news as GW fans in this recent article on IGN where ArenaNet are quoted saying that this restructuring won't affect GW and GW2.

    Quote

ArenaNet send IGN the following statement:
"We can confirm that due to the cancellation of unannounced projects, ArenaNet will make staff reductions. This is part of a larger organizational restructuring within NCSOFT in the west, but the Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 game services will not be affected, nor is any upcoming game content canceled."

Sadly as companies reach the end of financial years they review the last year's performance and make the business decisions to move the future in the direction they want to go.

I switched to KAOS's GW Launcher a few weeks ago after being sceptical and having used GW MultiLaunch since it came out.

It works flawlessly for using multiple accounts, and has the added benefit that you can setup multiple accounts to run from the same .dat file. I think it has the option to use the same .dat for ALL accounts but that brings with it in-game limitations.

The only issue with it is that it has to launch in Administrator mode for every game which is just extra hassle but I can understand why.

The biggest one though is unlike GW MultiLaunch there isn't a way to setup a client to launch without adding your login information. This is only a concern as you're putting your login information into a 3rd party application. I'm sure the application isn't recording/sending the data but that's what put me off using it initially. I just use it for storage accounts and not my main one.

Updated edit 12th June - Today I was told that you don't actually h ave to put any login details in. If you just link it to an executable then it will launch the client with out any login information. This is good news!

It is a shame that a lot of the information and discussion from ArenaNet has been lost over the years what with guildwars.com being streamlined and links removed, and GWGuru going down. They used to post there and discuss things. I'm sure some things can be picked out of the wiki but it is a bit of a pain to trawl through to find things.

I've considered doing a regular look-back at certain updates in GW's history and pull together the info such as updates, balance changes etc. so that players these days have a form of reference for the history of the game and how things have changed. It is just rather time consuming to start!

I saw your reddit post, I replied there too but it was a rather long reply. :D

OSRS was splintered off from RuneScape 2/3 due to the falling population in the game, a game still financed by monthly fees and adverts from what I understand. Since Guild Wars was planned in to be in maintenance mode whether 100'000 people or 100 people play I don't see how that would make any difference, that's not to say it wouldn't be nice but the business decision was probably made 10years ago.

There is also the risk that as GW doesn't bring in income from ads/subs that ArenaNet could just cut their losses and close it (as RuneScape Classic), or even NCSoft's other titles like City of Heroes which HAD a monthly fee and they still shut it down.

Because GW2 was a big graphical, gameplay, and content update from GW1, but Arenanet barely supports their old game. RuneScape 3 was also a big graphical, gameplay, and content update, but they went back and supported OSRS and just had a $50k tournament--the game is played in a browser with very simple graphics. People have told me that it's the fault of GW's community that GW1 is in maintenance mode right now, and I can understand that.

My understanding is that Oldschool RuneScape is just a previous version of RuneScape 3, (a game they change the name of when the do major updates). Their old game is RuneScape Classic, which imo would make it a better comparison.

Which people have said that it's the fault of GW's community that GW1 is in maintenance mode? I would have thought maintenance mode was planned in during the development (and future) of GW2? Implemented nearly six years ago, but must have been planned way before that.

I dug out some articles about the maintenance mode news, these are from May 2013.

    https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/05/21/gui…lted-automated/

    https://www.engadget.com/2013/05/17/are…automates-game/

    http://mmofallout.com/guild-wars-is-in-maintenance-mode/

Here's the post from guildwars.com I found on the internet archive

It is a fact that Arenanet has all but walked out on GW1. Jagex, on the other hand, just had a $20k prize for first place in a PvP tournament in Oldschool, yes, you read right, Oldschool RuneScape. They still release content for that game, fix bugs, and police it. Now, it is true that there are just as many botters and cheater in OSRS as there are in GW. It is true that every game has them, whether the company is supporting the game or not. I mean, I can live without big ol' content updates and still play GW1, because it's a challenging game, intricate, and I've invested so much time and know so much about it. But as far as making an art of theorycrafting builds like I used to do on PvX, somehow learning something I could take with me in a career as a game designer; or as far as taking pride in in-game achievements--these things I am caring about less and less.

This is not really related, but I think we would better spend thousands of hours learning, playing, and mastering games that we know will be around forever, and hold some real-world prestige beyond the stories we tell about the game to friends and family.

Is there a reason why you compare Guild Wars to Oldschool RuneScape rather than RuneScape Classic?

I don't know any online based games that are guaranteed to be around forever. Many have disappered over the last few years.

But we never get an official answer if they have even thought about it or if it`s posible. There`s still people working in Anet that worked on GW1. And i guess they have some sort of guides for things they develop, because you never know when a guy is gonna leave the company.

It feels like a dream. Just post this kind of stuff in reddit and quote Bill and company.

Sure we do, the official answer is: there is no development for Guild Wars.

Why would they make guides for a game they no longer support?? Most of the people have left the company and the few that remain that did some work on GW don't know enough.

Yes it is a dream. You're right about that.

Legacy Forum has a built in gwbb code displayer!

No, you can still get to the outpost and do the mission without taking the quest.

I don't see any mention that it stops you getting the quest if you've already reached the outpost or done the mission but it is something that could easily be confirmed.

I think it means you may have accepted it but as it doesn't show up in your quest log in-game it wouldn't have been easy to identify to tick-off when you did complete it.

One very small thing Id like to see would be an addition to the "Armbraces to ecto" rate display on the forum overview page to include the Ecto/Zkeys exchange rate.

Over the years Zkeys seem to have transitioned from Chest title opening items to a completely parallel payment method for mid to high end trades.

This is interesting, and with my comment above as well about Ecto to Plat added.

    So we could have
    Ecto : Platinum
    Ecto : Zaishen Key

    Ecto : Ambrace

Question is, how can this be defined in order to stay accurate enough to rely on it. Do we need to canvass people who are involved in the game/trades on a regular basis? Ecto:Platinum isn't too bad because you could just take the mean between Trader Buy & Sell, but the others are harder to define.

Sadly no API for GW so it all has to be done manually too.
