Should we allow UNID packages for sale?

  • Crayon great thread to educate those unaware. I too also had a laugh at the recent unid package thread that was selling id versions of those skins with perfect mods or close too it. A quick browse of how did gw treat you today also proved that it’s not some crazy theory as the same seller was bragging about perfect shield drops.

  • Even if the shield are tested, lets say there is still a chance u can get a -2stance / -2ench + 10 creature or + 10 earth/fire etc...

Even if technically you can also test all this but cmon... Thats rly a hassle to test against all creatures in the game

Not to derail but it is worth keeping in mind that tools such as toolbox can simplify testing and a full on bot can automate testing. I agree a human can do some quick tests but it becomes tedious at a certain point.

Of course, but I believe it’s a risk worth taking for the seller to let these slip through and not bother testing every creature just to not totally blow their cover.

Just like the allies did when they cracked the enigma code in WW2... they had to occasionally let german assaults pass through just so that they didn’t suspect that their coms had been compromised.

Let’s just call them calculated losses :D

As long as they can cherry pick the +30/45 +10 creatures etc it’s still a big win.

  • I will admit, this thread was probably made because of me. Crayon educated me on this because I had quite a long duration away from GW and had to relearn a lot... like,... A LOT. This is just one of those under-the-radar things that doesn't automatically register when you get back online. I see this as something that MUST be told to you eventually until you accidentally equip a unid and notice your health went up or something. This isn't something you just inherently know because you play a game, no matter how old or young or in-depth or outdated. It doesn't matter at all about anything except the fact it's valuable information that affects how a player will trade and trust the trade's authenticity. When you get scammed and are unaware, you can't simply learn from a mistake. You will make the mistake again if the desire is there and you have the cash to spend. This is why Casinos make money. Not because they simply always win, like it's a 1v1 match on Call of Duty, but because they only lose to a few people, but 100's played the game. Educating the 100's is better than any other option and I think this deserves a sticky. I appreciate Crayon reminding me at the very least of some ancient knowledge I may or may not have once knew.

    Thx man

  • Want to bump this because un-id packages are getting more and more common. Quite a few of them are for sale right now.

I'm not here to try to get it banned either, just want more people to be aware.

I want to add that I've now bought a total of three unid packages, (almost 100 shields) and not gotten a single perfect HP shield. I've gotten single mod +29's and lower, +44-41^stance +44-41^ench etc. But not a single max HP modded shield (single or dual modded).

    Now does this say anything?

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not here to argue if my sellers have checked their shields or not, because frankly nobody will be able to tell. I bought them being fully aware of this.

The probability is high enough counting that there's absolutely no way to get caught, unless you're a streamer and forget that you're live. :D

Maybe it's my insane luck (I actually recently did max the unlucky title), or maybe I got cheated a bit, but in the end, we will never know.

But the gambler in me really makes me struggle to resist when my favourite skin is for sale, in a juicy package, all ready to be identified by my sweaty hands.

Please be aware when buying, and know that you're literally leaving it all to the morality of a person who won't have consequences if they were to act in ill will.

    Have fun :)

  • Having recently put an unid shield bundle, I asked myself about it. Realistically you're not only gambling on stats but also on the seller honesty. +30/45/60 and -2/-3 shields are the easier to test so if you're looking for those it can be risky, on the other hand +10vs and +1(20%) shields seem like a pain in the ass to test so if you're looking for those it seems less risky. Honestly your best bet is to know the seller to at least some extent and make your own opinion from there. My personal proof of honesty (which proves nothing really) is you won't ever see a q9 crude in my bundle cause I id them instead of testing them for the merchant pleasure ;( . Anyway be careful with gambling addiction. Just my two cents.

  • I wanna chime in as someone who's Unid shield auction has ended recently and who farms shields either way, whether planning to auction or identifying them myself. This isn't really an opinion, more so just my observations.

Ironically it was in fact my bad luck with identifying shields that has recently made me start collecting them unidentified and just auctioning them off as a package. I figure that this is the better way to consistently make some ectos, as long as there are people to take the gamble, rather than hoping i'll drop a nice one frequently enough.

But it was even more ironic that when i stopped collecting the 50 for the package and started to identify shields again i got lucky soon after (as seen over on "How did guild wars treat you today?").

So what does this help? Well i think it tells us that decent mods and the hp mods in specific are just as rare as it seems, at least from my own experience. As for my own auction i can not actually prove and only state that i have not checked my unid shields.

What i can say though is that i specifically sorted out the q12 to q13 ones, cause even with perfect mods those arent so valueable and i dont have unlimited inventory space either. So i identified those and i think only very very few (out of the maybe 60 or 70) had perfect hp mods, or other nice mods like +10vs for that matter. So if those are anything to go by then the q9 to q11 from the auction will have equally little to no perfect hp mods.

Like Ravenshaw says, as long as people are aware that this is a gamble (with the trust being a gamble in itself) then i think it is fine and should be allowed.

    Side note:

While it wouldn't help with the whole trust thing it would be interesting to analyse drop rates for shield mods and get an idea of percentages.

  • Editing as this was combined with my other post before I realized.....

I think the moderators should ban this nonsense and potentially dishonest behavior here. It should not be allowed. It’s bull crap.

It takes literally 5 seconds for the seller to test the item for all the relevant mods people want.

It’s gambling with a casino that is potentially rigging the game against you on purpose and we don’t have a gaming commission to keep them honest.
