I am confused by various things I've read in regards to titles achieved in gw1. Are titles just fluff, words that can be displayed over your characters head, or are there in game rewards that one gets? I read that pets, buffs and cosmetics can be bought with title points, but is this just for gw2, or gw1 as well?
In a search, I had the sometimes incorrect AI return result that the defender of ascalon title u get from reaching lvl 20 in pre-searing gives you the armor vanguard buff. I am guessing this is wrong but just want to make sure. If you get that title do you get that permanent armor buff for your character even when NOT doing Vanguard quests?
If there's a link to titles plus rewards list plz share. I couldn't find any with rewards listed. Thanks!
Question/s about titles in gw 1

there is no rewards for titles in gw1.
some titles however do have an affect in a certain region or against certain foes, which are some battle improvements of your stats like a buff. also you nee certain titles to get access to some craftsmen who then will craft armor for you (like you have to prove to them you are worthy) and then there are some skills that are related to titles instead of attributes, so you have stronger skills. and finally there is titles that increase your luck when using lockpicks on chests - they do break less often as you advance on the respective titles. all tbe effect of title influences are capped to a max though. best look around on the wiki about titles:
also there is the hall of monuments that grants you rewards in gw2 for titles you achieved in gw1. wiki also helps there.

and no: the ldoa title does not grant vanguard buff permanently.

PvP titles:
- Gives you more Balthazar faction max. than you can accumulate (max. 250.000pts). See also Hero Panel for infos.
- Allegiance rank (Kurzick & Luxon) give you more faction cap max (max. 70,000pts) and more Imperial faction max (max. 140,000pts). Also via Hero Panel.
- The rest of the PvP titles don't change your account/character status. Except emotes for Hero and GvG titles.
PvE titles:
- Account titles: The luck/unluck title, Treasure hunter and Wisdom, changes the way you recover your lockpicks (% luck) as well as when you recycle an item in your inventory (% luck).
- The Nightfall and Eye of the North titles (Lightbringer, Sunspear, Asura, Deldrimor, Ebon Vanguard, Master of the North and Norn) change the power of skills linked to these peoples (PvE skills). And apart from Sunspear, they change the power of the associated rank, when the title is selected.
If I forget nothing the rest offers no advantage once finished, apart from the satifaction of having completed it and for the HoM of course.
The advantage in Eden is with Vanguard quests: “Characters with an active Vanguard Quest in their Quest Log will receive an armor boost while in any explorable area. Those traveling with quest takers will not have the bonus.” After, if you do it the old-school way, you'll be at a disadvantage in terms of multiple suicides. But who still uses the old-school way and these 100,000 deaths, to increase the LvL of Charrs, in order to reach LvL20 (I would have done it a 3rd time :D).
