Hi all, I couldn't find a whole lot of information about the subject. But who of you plays Guild Wars on the Steam Deck?
I'm thinking of getting one, and if GW runs smooth on it and it is convenient to play, that's definitely a big plus.

You're in luck. They just announced a beta of official Steam Deck controller layout / support in a Game Update last week.
There are many mentions of people using a Steam Deck to play on the /r/GuildWars subreddit too.
As long as you can find a control scheme that you like then people have said it's a good experience.
I have tried GW on the steam deck briefly, it runs very smooth obviously because of how old the game is.
my biggest issue were the controls, but i havent played around with it much and it was before the recent official controller support update.
I know also that GW is not demanding on your network connection, so steam deck wifi will suffice without a problem.
So yea, as bsoltan said it boils down to controls and how you like them, which is somewhat subjective.
It works really well with the right layout, you can browse some and modify it to your preferences. I have a travel keyboard and mouse which are also working perfect with it.
Performances are great, the game is old, so you can run it flawless.

Yeah, I saw! That reignited my interest in the Steam Deck! Thanks for your response. I think this control scheme will make the experience even better.
I've installed Guild Wars on the Steamdeck, but there are no community layouts available. How do I need to rename it in Steam to find SamCW's layouts?

I don't have the solution, but for clarification im assuming that you have a Guild Wars install of the game that you did not buy through steam.
Basically how to get (official/community) control layouts for a 'third party' game that also has an official steam release available?
Yup, I bought it directly from the shop...and I've found that if you rename games after adding it to Steam, you can find the various Community Layouts. I've tried the most obvious names: Guild Wars, Guild Wars 1, GW, GW1 - and I'm finding a few layouts depending on the name, but not SamCW's.
