Looks like NC Soft is preparing to heavily gut ANet...
Probably not a great sign for the future of the series.

ooooh.....that is not good, so anet may say they will host gw until gw2 goes away, but with tons of jobs going away, will they be singing the same toon (tune)???
I`m just speechless.
Guild Wars has probably been the most succesfull MMO in number of copies sell and playerbase after WOW. And they just basically let the game past away... Having 400 persons developing GW2, i ask, was it really hard to set up a group of 30-60 people to develop a new campaign for GW in 6-8 months (like they did in the past) and restructure Game Shop to have quite some earnings and keep the game going for the years to come?
400 persons actively working mostly on GW2. I don`t know what they were thinking.
PD: I even saw warcraft 3 having like 13k viewers on twitch the other day. Rip Arenanet strategy
The problem is that neither game seems to be bringing in the revenue that ncsoft wants from their games....they only care about that: How much money is this making for us NOW. Its not relevant (to them) that the game is good, unique, etc. only if its making money right now. We know that gw's business model was not about making money (though if they had kept to their timelines of new campaigns every 6 months it would have....not sure about gw2 and their microtransaction stuff), so it seems that even being the best wont keep you up and running (we have seen this already). And I am not sure what anet can do to impress upon their bosses that either.
We will just have to wait and see what transpires---we know that gw doesnt cost much to run and we have only a few people working on it (hope their names are not on the pink list!) so that is a plus for it.
I don't think there's anything to worry about.
They've stated before that GW cost very little to run and the work we got as of late from my understanding, has been off the clock and if that's all we'll be getting, then I'm be grateful for it. They've also stated that GW2 will continue on as scheduled.
It just sucks that people will be losing their jobs.
Made this into a new thread as it is a big enough topic to not be caught up in the other one.
It is a huge shame that a developer has to reduce it's staff, hopefully the people effected by the restructuring manage to find new jobs quickly. I wonder if the new things they were working on were new IPs or more tangents of the GW World.

At least some better news as GW fans in this recent article on IGN where ArenaNet are quoted saying that this restructuring won't affect GW and GW2.
QuoteArenaNet send IGN the following statement:
"We can confirm that due to the cancellation of unannounced projects, ArenaNet will make staff reductions. This is part of a larger organizational restructuring within NCSOFT in the west, but the Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 game services will not be affected, nor is any upcoming game content canceled."
Sadly as companies reach the end of financial years they review the last year's performance and make the business decisions to move the future in the direction they want to go.
In case anyone is interested on GW (2) player on Reddit /u/Zarurra has kept a list of those confirmed that have left, (and those that remain).
