Wished for changes and additions for these forums

  • Kevin installed my mod now. Some notes:
    - Some skills like [[dolyak signet] have a cast time of 0. This is intentional and accurate.
    - I made a complete resign of how stuff looks now. I used images from GWCom.de, because they are nice and the site is about to be shut down.
    - The style of the icons was changed to the style GuildWiki.de and PvXwiki use.

Stuff that might be worth looking into:
    - Stuff in popups is centered. This is not intentional from my side and does not exist on my testing site. Maybe Kevin set it to be centered?
    - Fix template code generation
    - Make popups recognize that they are too far on the right and pop up to the left then.
    - Recognize Factions skills with no faction given. As most guilds are kurzick I think, these will link to kurzick skills.

  • This ---- is entirely unmaintable and bugged. Holy ----. Also, it's full of french stuff:
    [empty]

Can you edit that? (and I don't just mean the spelling ;) )

    Thanks

EDIT: Sad that it's apparently acceptable to say what you want, how you want these days, regardless of audience. On a public forum, for a game used by all kinds of people, including children.

    What's your plan with that?
Well the theme is adjusted to these forums.

honnaja: I'm from Germany and after the years of surveillance in national socialism and the GDR, we cannot accept any kind of censorship. I feel insulted by being ask to censor my posts. Censorship in the US doesn't keep any kids from using these words, so I think it's not worth to restrict free speech in media.

    Wow. Really?
Newspapers would be different if they were 'effin' and 'blindin' here, there and everywhere.

I was considering using it for guild sites I make, maybe work on it a bit. I played with this gwbbcode implementation before and i agree its not the most intuitive design (however I dont do much in the realm of web development, it all seems unintuitive ;p)

I personally don't have an issue with these words, but then again, we're most likely from entirely different parts of the world. I live in a country next to Redeemer (Belgium) and well... curse words and such aren't an issue here and censorship of them is seen as 'silly'. If you're going to censor music because it contains curse words, just don't transmit it but don't put bleeps in them. Annoys me so much :P

That being said, since this website is all about Guild Wars, I think we'll just follow the PEGI 12 advice, which states the following:

    Quote

Videogames that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy character and/or non graphic violence towards human-looking characters or recognisable animals, as well as videogames that show nudity of a slightly more graphic nature would fall in this age category. Any bad language in this category must be mild and fall short of sexual expletives.

That means that you are allowed to use curse words here, but don't use the sexually loaded ones. Words like shit, damn, holy moley are definitively allowed.

All in all I agree with what Redeemer says though and that is that censorship doesn't work. The solution, in my opinion, is not censoring the issue but rather explaining what it's all about and giving it a place. :)

But, let's get back on-topic and return to improvements and suggestions :)

I have a bit to add ....this game for which the forum was made is what in the usa call pg 13 or parental guidance suggested, and as such those who use the forums should adhere to those guidelines as well .....

also as for the use of the 'colorful' language, there really should be no need to use it at all, it serves no purpose other than to show....well, we know what it shows. I see no need for its use on a forum dedicated to a game that is for more mature audiences, but that kids might also be reading.

I believe that we should adhere to that as well. (bold mine)
