I got scammed & thread suggestion (game update discussion)

  • Hi All,

I got scammed a few months ago during the tunnels updates. Traded a q8 15^50 crenellated sword and q8 15^50 katana for a q9 15^ench crystalline sword. GGs to me, but I guess my bad for being greedy / not being aware of the updates. Regardless, I'm pretty much on hiatus / might quit for good / might come back after all the updates are settled / might just play and stop trading.

But regardless, have a suggestion. Historically there have been barely any updates, so an area like this was not needed. But with all the changes from 2weeks, was thinking it might be a good idea to have a pinned thread or even a dedicated subforum section for "game updates discussions". So someone wouldnt have to trawl through "How did Guild Wars treat you today? Daily Game Discussion" to get updates on game (and particularly how the updates effects items (since this is an item collector forum for the most part)). *I still don't know what q8s were effected by tunnels or if any were*

Thanks and see you again (maybe :S),

    -MACDADDY

EDIT: Also want to shame 2weeks update notes. Maybe they were trying to surprise people or maybe they didnt know, but would be nice to know in the update notes for drop table changes!

  • You're not alone. There's a number of examples of people paying huge sums or trading rare items for things added by the updates this year, without knowing yet that it was a bad trade. Some of these people were taking a gamble while knowing the risk, and others were like you and just weren't aware of updates.

However, there were many threads related to the updates across various forums (not just GWL). I don't really believe your suggestion would have made much of a difference. You would still have to stumble across or go look for posts on forums prior to making a trade.

Sorry for your trade, but if it's any consolation I'll restate that you aren't the only one and I doubt that any new dedicated subforums would have made a difference. The people who caught onto these items dropping were keeping it quiet on purpose in order to make a killing for as long as they could prior to the general public finding out about it, and the beans weren't spilled for a number of days.

  • I agree with Ecto. Your suggestion doesn’t really solve the issue - what happens if you miss the thread, or there is misinformation, or the profiteers withhold information to make a couple more armbraces?

I get that you are hurting losing a couple of valuable items for a less valuable item because of an update. Whenever patches or game updates/new builds are displayed on GWWiki, I always take a break from trading and play the content to get a feel of what’s happened, to understand how it might impact the market.

Either way, auctions are a great way to get a feel for what items might be worth providing you give it time and are in no rush to sell. Greed may or may not influence if you get the best price or not.

It’s a learning experience, but shouldn’t hopefully put you off playing such an amazing game! :)
