Best class for new player?

  • all classes have their perks. it is more a matter of what style of role and play you like best. stick to whatever profession speaks to you the most when asking wiki on their quick summary. mine is warrior.

I WTB all kinds of Tower Shields and Defenders. I do drop research - if you find anything remarkable or want to see the results - check the thread or send a pm!

  • Make one that's pleasing to the eyes :) as you will watch your character run around a lot. Class does not matter too much because you can have any class as a secondary! Also you will have heroes and henchmen to help you fight, so any class is beginner-friendly

    - Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, Monk, Ritualist: those are spellcasters, they stand at the back and cast spells (Monk and Ritualist also heal)

    - Warrior (axe, sword, hammer), Assassin (daggers), Dervish (scythe): those are melee, they run up to engage the enemy

    - Ranger (bow), Paragon (spear): those are ranged attackers

perks for each class (in my opinion)

    - Necromancer: can summon minions, gets energy whenever something dies

    - Mesmer: best damage-dealing caster

    - Elementalist: (no advantage, overshadowed by Mesmer)

    - Monk: can heal and protect (but heroes do it better)

    - Ritualist: can summon spirits

    - Assassin: can damage, can tank, major role in dungeons (speedclears)

    - Dervish: similar to assassin, best solo farmer

    - Warrior: (no advantage, overshadowed by Assassin & Dervish)... sorry, no offense, this is just my opinion

    - Ranger: can have a pet

    - Paragon: (no advantage, overshadowed by everything) ^^ play centers around two skills (Heroic Refrain, Save Yourselves), can make the strongest team of heroes, the class I played the most

  • From my experience, all classes have pros and cons. What matters most is your playstyle (and which class would be a best fit for that), the build you play, and the builds you run on your heroes.

As Bluey mentioned above, generally warrior is overshadowed by dervish and assassin, but I made a nice build which hits like a truck (to the point where dervish and assassin are overshadowed xd).

So there is no clear answer to your question. Every player has their own style and preference. Just try a few out and find your way through the game. It wont disappoint;)

Also just to have it mentioned, you are not restricted to running the weapons for a certain class. You can run Paragon with a bow, a Warrior with a scythe, an Assassin with an axe, and a Dervish with a sword. What matters most is meeting the requirement for that weapon in order to deal the damage you are meant to deal (so you’d have to take it as a 2nd profession for it to deal damage).

And finally, not to throw shade/hate/shame or whatever towards anyone. But from personal experience any class can be broken (be it damage, support, tank). You just need to find the right build/skill to use.

(Elementalist tends to be overshadowed by Mesmer, which for heroes I’d agree with. But for player, the right PvE skills can really make or break a build. I used to run Intensity+Invoke Lightning (while timing Intensity that I can use it 2x on 1 Invoke Lightning). This way you deal XX-XXX dmg from invoke, 70% of XX-XXX dmg from Intensity in the area and that 2x within a very short time. So there are ways to come out of that shadow, you just need to find something that works for you 😜).

In short: play the game, try things and most importantly do what you enjoy. Nobody can tell u how to play this goddamn great game ❀️

  • I'm going to grasp upon a couple words and ask a question...

By you being a "free to play player" are you asking about gw1 or gw2?

This site you will be getting answers about gw1, but "free to play" makes me think you are asking about gw2.
