That could indeed be related - what action did you take, what messages did you get? I haven't encountered issues myself yet, so please give me all details so I can go ahead and see what goes wrong.

    Kevin

just a loading circle popup when on the website, main page or whatever else, and it loads for some 10s of seconds and the error popped up. also the site wasnt really working/loading properly

edit: also the site is now working only intermittently, the latest post side window and notification (-time) isn't updating. and i also got that same error as a whole page instead of just the windows on top of the website

Strange, do you get any error messages/ID's that I can use to check the control panels?

We have also switched to using BunnyCDN as our CDN provider, so that should speed up Guild Wars Legacy for most users.
This isn't a free service, so feel free to donate if you want to support all of the development of Legacy ;)

But this is mainly because we used CloudFlare before and I want to be less reliant on a provider that runs gigantic parts of the internet - competition is healthy!
I also have a preference to work with European companies where I can, since Legacy is European-based, so that also plays a role.

On my mobile phone, i can connect to GW LEGACY, exempt if wifi is activated…

    Your update block my 5G

Is this still an issue? We had an issue with DNS a few days back - we moved to BunnyCDN for DNS and they did a massive fuck-up on the import of our zone file (I've just got reports from them that they fixed the root cause).

They accidentally imported everything with "guildwarslegacy.com" added to it... so to reach Guild Wars Legacy, you would need to type in "guildwarslegacy.com.guildwarslegacy.com". Took a while before I figured out that that was what was wrong.
It was very stressful hour, I can tell you that.

Those issues should now be resolved, should it still be an issue, feel free to let me know.

Can someone shed some light into the infraction point system and thresholds for bans etc. Couldnt find much in the way of information anywhere on the forum.

There is indeed a warning/infraction point system in place. I won't discuss all details of it, because that leads to people gaming that system.

What I will say is that how it generally works is that it utilizes a points system that will automatically trigger actions once enough points have been collected.

Every action a moderator takes, will assign you warning points. For example, the warning to read the Xunlai Marketplace rules will assign you 1 point. A first warning gets you 2 points, a second one 4 and so on. However, a moderator can overrule the amount of points given and can decide if points expire.

There are pre-set warnings but moderators can choose what they find appropriate. The moderators have my full trust there and I serve as the escalation point if someone does not agree with the received warning or ban (and for that reason, I usually do not moderate that actively myself).

Some of these points will expire after a while, other points never expire. The first action that automatically get applied is when you get 8 points, which disables your avatar for a week. In general, warning points are set up to not expire.

To get a first ban, you will need to collect 15 points. The next ban, for 3 days, only takes 5 more points (which equals a new warning, once you get at that point).

I hope this sheds some light on the system, and if you require more information, feel free to ask it here or privately.

As a reminder, it is not allowed to have multiple Guild Wars Legacy accounts. Due to that reason, several users here have been permanently banned.
We are actively working on improving how we handle members that have multiple user accounts. If you feel you have a valid reason for a second account, please contact me.

fatbeard mcbearface has been permanently banned due to severe inappropriate behaviour, including sending offensive ASCII art and harassing messages to other users.
This kind of disrespectful and juvenile conduct has no place on Legacy.

If you receive any kind of inappropriate messages or conversations, please report them. We look at every report and take them seriously.

Well, the problem is that it usually isn't hard to find the names of characters online for people - on this forum alone, you can find many hundreds of those.

It makes sense that they require a bit more information to recover your account. Try to give as much details as you can.

At the bare minimum, you should be able to at least give your name, but the more you can give, the better.

I came looking for a thread like this after noticing some rather extreme Legacy lag for the past day or so, but then I noticed Red's initial poll was from over a week ago. I hadn't noticed any issues around that time. Currently, however, the site itself loads very slowly, and individual pages within it are slower than usual as well. I thought it might be a general internet issue for me at first but haven't had issues with others sites/apps yet.

This occurs for me using Chrome on both desktop and mobile, though on mobile it feels worse. Accessing from the US and using the default theme (the goldish one with Vizu.)

The CDN was disabled for now for testing purposes, so the first page load you do after it was disabled (yesterday) will lead to a bit longer of load times. I'm investigating it...

A slower reaction, but I haven't been notified by the monitoring tools that the speed of Legacy has changed.

This is the monitor of the last 30 days on my monitoring tool Gatus:

And this is the last 30 days measured by OhDear:

Finally, the server monitoring itself also didn't mention anything strange, we didn't even get past 4.1% of the CPU load.

So I don't really see a reason why Legacy would have performance issues. However, on the 21st-22nd of January, there was a CloudFlare issue and we are still using CloudFlare right now (https://blog.cloudflare.com/route-leak-inc…anuary-22-2026/) - even though I am looking into moving towards BunnyCDN soon.

If you still have issues, could you please let me know:

    - What country you are from and what ISP
    - What theme are you using on Legacy
    - What browser are you using

A big help would be a traceroute to Guild Wars Legacy. This can be done by using these commands:
    - Linux/Mac: traceroute guildwarslegacy.com
    - Windows: tracert guildwarslegacy.com
This shows an entire list of all the steps you go through to reach the server.

Feel free to let me know through a DM so you don't have to expose these details here. But that could help me figure out what goes wrong.

For me I haven't had a slow response / load time but some pages that are image heavy become slow to scroll/navigate.

The new version of our forum software, which should launch somewhere in the next few weeks, should fix this alongside a lot of other things. It is going to automatically convert images to a more efficient format (webp) so that these take up less space and thus load quicker.

It's also going to add drag and drop for reordering file attachments. Coming soon, hopefully!

^^^^^^ issue with mode: Melandru's Accord. Take money from the xunlai chest with TB++ /xunlai ->

If you don't have a Xunlai Storage account, you can open the chest but not take things/gold from it (e.g. in pre-searing and other locations).
Since you can't unlock the storage account, I suspect you can access the bank but not interact with it? I haven't tested it though.

I've already had a reply from the developers and the cause of the reporting issue was found and is resolved. Due to that, WSC-Connect is not available until further notice (as this was causing the issues) - I'll be working with the developers of WSC-Connect to resolve this issue.

Please report each conversation and message so we can take a look at it - reports are taken seriously and looked at.

Concerning the alt account trolling and fake bidding, I agree that that is something that we need to improve upon and will.

it's real, Jon followed up with that

he's assuming stuff though, so keep your hopes low and your expectations even lower

It makes sense that the developers would try to use those tools for content creation they've gotten working again... but this could just as well be them just trying and testing out the tools and these could be testing maps.
I certainly would expect that they would test out a few things before actually making new content and publishing it.

So could it be a new elite area? Well, it makes sense... they've been going the God-route a lot now. Next we'll get a Dwayna mode where you can only use healing spells ;)

I suspect we'll see some new content one day. You don't patch up development tools to not use them.

It should be possible to view the history of past transactions, either through specific access rights or through new rules. For example, item prices should no longer disappear once a sale is closed.

Just looking at the enthusiasm for Guru’s transaction history is enough to show that there is a real need to preserve and maintain historical data. This kind of transparency helps users better understand the market and builds trust.

I agree that that information is valuable and that we could do a better job exposing those things. And it's an area that I am trying to improve things with.

I don't want to pin things down/say too much right now in the case that it doesn't pan out, but thanks to a new piece of software that I am testing, a few cool things can be done here on Legacy - and I expect it can absolutely help improve things like this.

So yes, things are moving. Not always as fast as I - or anyone else - would like them to go, but I am still human after all and I have my day to day job that takes priority. In the end, Legacy isn't free for me to host (nor is that extra software) and Legacy is first and foremost a labor of love for me.
There certainly are improvements coming, I have a lot of plans to do so, so in the next few months, you'll see quite a lot of changes happening.

    Kevin

Thank you! I was able to fetch the error logs with the exception code. I can find several errors with this message.

We still receive reports so this isn't a general issue and from what I can see in the error/stack trace, it seems to be triggered on some weird condition.

I have created a support ticket with the developers, I expect to get an answer tomorrow.

Hello everybody - big news, as the new archives are now live!
Hop on over to https://archive.guildwarslegacy.com to check it out - feel free to leave feedback here for future improvements.

    Kevin

This new backup/archive still seems to be missing the Gladiator's Arena. Previously it was between "The Campfire" and "Explorer's League".

Any plan to re-instate it or is there a reason it is missing.

That data didn't fully come through in the scraping process that I ran most recently. A full re-scrape of the archives is still planned, with an improved scraper.
However, that requires a bit more modifications to the scraper and setting up the data to scrape it again. It's on my to-do list, so certainly still planned, but not my top priority right now.

clicking through the site is fast again, but reacting to a post or creating a post is still slow with a few seconds of the circle animation for me

There are a few reasons for that, mainly due to the forum software itself. Extra checks for spam, some processing and storing the data... should not take seconds though... goes almost instant for me.

since reforged the site has been feeling slower / less responsive. is that because of servers or just more people being on here?

The database settings have been tuned (Legacy can now use 24 GB of RAM, just for the database alone... the cache used to be 256MB large before) and Legacy is flying like it never has for me... hopefully it's reacting a lot faster for you now, too!

If not, feel free to let me know and I'll make sure to check it out.

By the way, the reason why the migration failed last time: it didn't fail, but the new security system was a bit too eager and banned me while debugging the issues. That caused a whole lot of other issues which led me to roll-back to our previous server. Ofcourse it only took a few more minutes after before I realized what was really happening. I spent a lot of time confirming the issue and fixing another issue.

The new security system is also VERY thorough and completely banned me on all fields, so it looked like the server had crashed. Ah, the joys of being a system administrator.

Can we then assume it's name was HAL and it was afraid you can't do that...

    M.O.X. 9000!

And the server move has just been completed - if you can read this, the server move was a success and you are now visiting Guild Wars Legacy on the new server, Ashford.

As explained in my previous post, we saw a huge increase in users so a bigger server was warranted and Legacy has never had such a beefy server as this one - we have 8 times as much memory and have moved to dedicated cores, so Legacy should remain smooth for years to come!

Now, with every migration, there is a risk of issues so should you encounter something strange, please feel free to let me know and I'll take a look at it.

    Kevin

since reforged the site has been feeling slower / less responsive. is that because of servers or just more people being on here?

There is a limit of 30 days on my metrics, but we have gone from 35.77k unique visitors a month ago to 108.56k, or from 443.3k requests to 1.42m requests (these are daily metrics).

So yes, the amount of visitors has gone up drastically and it is one of the reasons for the server move - the new server is orders of magnitudes faster. I'm testing behind the scenes and hope to finish it today.

But hey, the icons next to the character are the best of the best, right? You can really show off, like, hey, did you see that? Did you see that? Hey, hey! So cool, I have the icons! Holy shit, I'm a star! Oh shit, you created your character two weeks ago? Too old!

Between us, I don't like the direction this is going at all. The more elements they add, the wider the gap will become.

It's an alpha after all, I can understand they don't want it to impact all characters right at once - these characters were made with the knowledge that it might radically change. They might change the rules A LOT.

And that's OK. Changing main accounts? Not so much. I expect that once they decide it is stable, that you might enroll as Reforged character for existing characters.

My only question about the batches is; what about account wide titles? will they also receive batches if u start fresh?

I don't see badges on my character for account wide titles. I expect those might only get badges if you go up a rank in those if it happens while you are playing on a character with badges?

Well, adding an easier way to get to level 20 in pre-searing was logic in my opinion. Deathlevelling is an extreme thing and takes a lot of effort and time. They probably should have made a title for players that did get it the hard way, or some special recognition.

But for the longer term health of the game, these steps are logic and very welcome. Returning back to the days where it would take you years to death level to level 20 wouldn't make anyone happy, with the exception of the few that have the title.

    Hello everybody,

With Guild Wars Reforged, the role of Legacy is changing as well and we want to expand our news section to not only cover in game updates, but it is also a great moment to start writing and providing guides for the game.

For that end, we are looking for people who want to help write guides and articles on Legacy.

Now, to be honest, there is no payment for this with the exception of glory (Legacy never generated a profit, so I can't share what isn't there), but it's a way to help expand and improve this beautiful game and community!

If you are interested, feel free to let me know here and I'll try to get in touch.

    Kevin

I think that a level 1 with: Reforged Mode + Dhuum's Covenant + Tyrian Grandmaster Cartographer (and incidentally I'am Very Important (3) could be interesting to do ^^

Edit: Before creating a character, remember that only those native to Tyria will have Reforged Mode available. And given the advantages, there will be no difference in areas outside Prophecies. Wait and see for other campaigns after alpha mode?

Well, it's an alpha after all, and Prophecies lends itself best to this with pre-searing. And Prophecies is a slog compared to the other campaigns.

But this is an amazing update, especially with the login screens.

If they would have launched this as the Reforged update, the hype levels would be through the roof.

    Hey all,

I can't put a precise moment on it yet, but in the coming hours/days, Guild Wars Legacy will be down for a few hours for a server migration (yes, again).

This is the big one. Legacy is moving to a way beefier server and several other servers will be merged to this single server (hello, archive servers!).

I'll keep you up to date, but if you can't access Guild Wars Legacy for a while, this is the reason.

    - Kevin

gw guru archive at least had pictures before and was searchable via ctrl +f.. now it's even more unusable and no pictures are left.

i don't understand the thought process behind "remastering" it when it's objectively worse than before. hopefully pictures and search is added otherwise it was all for nothing, leaving us with even less of a historical archive than before

I stand corrected, take a look here. I'm glad to see that there is ongoing updates to the archive to make it more usable and fixing images.

The current version was the first step forwards to improving the archive. It's been quite a lot of work to get it to that state and it wasn't perfect and I was aware of that. But 2024 was generally a bad year for me, especially the last half of it and 2025 has been the worst year of my life, without a doubt. I lost my job in the beginning of the year, my mother got diagnosed with a serious disease, my relationship imploded, my nephew died, financial issues due to the loss of my job and so many bureaucratic challenges... my life as it was changed completely this year.

So, my focus this year has been to try and get through it all, trying to get my life back on the rails. While I spent several months at home, working on things was the last thing on my mind. It has only been recently that my desire to work on things again, returned.
I'm glad to have the beginnings of stability back with a new (challenging) job, a better understanding of myself and working on my self-confidence, trying to find my way in the new IT-world (which has drastically changed in the last year) and a new relationship as well. It's been a though year, but in the end, years like this are extremely unpleasant but they make you stronger and better as a person. At least, I hope so :)

But, back to on-topic, I wanted to introduce search into the archives as well, but I ran into a hard deadline when I built the previous version of the archive. The costs for the server were going to increase significantly so I wanted to migrate off it as soon as possible. But once the new archive was set up, I didn't touch the new server at all. In fact, I forgot a lot about how I set it up and after a while I didn't want to touch it anymore to avoid breaking something, which is never a great situation to be in.

The GuruArchiver was one of my first projects in Golang and I was never really a programmer, so it was quite an undertaking for me to build it. Over time, I started doing a lot more programming and I became a lot better in Golang, so each time when I touched the code, it improved a lot. The new version of the archive that will be going live soon, is a testament to how much I have grown. I have stripped out MariaDB for SQLite, but almost no database code itself needed to change, but other parts of the application required a lot more attention and time. Building search isn't rocket science, but with the size of the archive, you quickly run into practical limits: the database itself is 2.7 GB big. Searching through that without optimizations requires a lot of resources and a single search took about 15 seconds to complete, which isn't really feasible (especially since going to the next search result page is another search which took another 15 seconds). I have optimized this and it has made a huge difference, with searches now taking about 200ms, but it made the database nearly 7 GB in total. I've seen companies switching to specialized solutions like ElasticSearch for less, which is a whole other service to update/maintain and another tool that I would have had to learn. So that's why I didn't implement search before, because I wanted it to be a good implementation and not a half baked one.
Another reason why I didn't implement search back then is because of the impact it could have on the server. Imagine having to run several queries that take 15 seconds to complete on a server, it would quickly lead to issues with the database and impact every other website on the server that also used that database. It would very likely have impacted Guild Wars Legacy and I didn't want that.

Fixing the images was a hard thing to do as well, because the archive hasn't got a unified way to deal with images. Some are expected to be in specific folders, some in others. That's due to how it was archived, it was a static HTML dump. There were so many issues with the scraped data as well (broken HTML), which is something that needed to be fixed as well. Every little thing you touch required further changes elsewhere and it quickly became a spiral out of control.

So... it took a while before I felt mentally fit enough again to tackle a project of this size. It was a lot of work, I added a lot of things that I originally wanted to have in the archive. I wanted to build a definitive version of the archive that would include everything that you all would want. And that just took a while and it meant that I had to learn new technologies as well. It's my second project using SQLite, my first project using Templ, first timing building search from scratch. It's the first time that I got help from an AI agent to help me build the new lay-out files. I'm really glad of the result and I'm really proud of it, but it didn't come from nowhere. This has been days of late-night coding and something that I do for my love for Guild Wars and this community, and because I have the skills to do so.

As long as Guild Wars is around, and as long as I am around, I'll always make sure to do my best for this community. And yes, further improvements will be made to the archive. Now, the next steps I need to do for the archive is to set-up the new server, set-up and test the new deployment system for the archives, write the Ansible code to manage it all and finally deploy it to the new server. I hope to find the time somewhere this week :)

    Kev

This is just my 2 cents but I believe that when they add the huge graphical overhaul, they'll allow for an option to play in the legacy version under the Graphics Tab (kinda like being able to turn Post Processing on and off - tho this might require a full restart of the game if and when u switch) so that players can choose to enjoy the nostalgia when they want.

I feel it is going to be several toggles, to be honest. It doesn't seem like it's a full graphical remaster but rather a lot of rendering improvements.

ArenaNet always said that Gw1 servers are only still up because Gw2 is the breadwinner, for this reason I don't see actual content being added to Gw1 as it would break the trust of Gw2 players and create a potential unhealthy competition between the two games

Things have changed over the years. I think other games have proven enough that games can co-exist, even versions of the same game. With how different GW1 and GW2 are, I think it would be perfectly reasonable to create new content for GW1. They cater to a different public and if the GW1 content can be created at a reasonable cost and has a good return on investment, that would only be good for both games.

I don't think that there would be unhealthy competition between the two, both can easily exist together.

Like Max, I forgot where I saw that but it would be a new strategy decision for them to shift away from this model

This isn't exactly correct though. GW1 runs on entirely different servers than GW2 does and in fact, GW1 has been using the GW2 authentication systems for a while now. In a way, GW1 now runs on the back of GW2, technically speaking.

Both GW1 and GW2 run in AWS these days but the machines are entirely seperated, but the accounts are using a shared system (aka: the ArenaNet account, aka the GW2 system). This move was done many years ago and as a result of that, two factor authentication became possible in GW1. It was the same update that removed the requirement to list a character name to login.

The current Gw2 business model is yearly-ish 30$ expansions, if those expansions end up being disappoiting or delayed meanwhile Gw1 players get new content updates, Gw2 players will inevitably feel frustrated

Most people do understand that different teams support different products. The OSRS team and the RS3 team aren't the same and I feel like that just gives more content to play in between updates. Say that GW2 hasn't had a patch in a month or 2 and you are still waiting for the other patch, that would give you more reasons to play GW1 instead (and stagger those updates so they're always in the middle of each other).

And there will always be frustrated players, that's just the way it is, these days.

What I'd like to see is the little things that were talked about years ago, finally being implemented. Things like updating the fire animations from the expansion, and adding them to the older games. The same with running water animations and textures. Other smaller things like repositioning the NPC's so that they're like the GWEN versions, instead of just standing lifeless at the designated spots. I'm not expecting major changes to storylines or even new quests, understanding that this isn't feasible without a larger dedicated team.

That would be awesome. I did remember reading a post from Lindsey Murdock eons ago where she said that it did take quite a bit of work to do so, but this would exactly be a thing that this new team could handle. I'm glad that they are modifying the quest tracker/log, as there is room for improvement there, but I would love seeing some features of Toolbox coming to the game, like opening up your bank in a town without needing to run to the NPC and having an improved travel interface so you can travel everywhere without needing to go to a travel hub first. And what would be really neat would be that the game remembers what your party composition is, so you can restore it with a click instead of having to remember what heroes were in your party before you travelled to a place with a lower limit.

And even without new content, there are things that could probably be introduced, like an achievement system. I think everyone of us could think of so many things to improve upon, but I'm just extremely glad that this is happening. I did not see this coming at all!

i disagree, it would change the original look too much imo (especially after this long) even if it isnt consistent across all of GW.

Well, some visual updates here and there would be nice...

But yes, hopefully, one day, new content would be cool!

My gut feeling tells me that this won't be enough.. in light of today's new posts. :/

Yes, we're doing our best to combat these but as AI improves, so does the ability of bots to jump through automated tests. So either we jack up the difficulty for everybody and annoy everybody, or we end up with some posts on our platform that slip through.

We're doing our best as much as we can....
