• Who are they? Where do they farm? And anyone bought anything of real value from bot farmers? (i.e. weapon, shield, foci...)

I guess I could consider myself one since I've been farming feathers and runes at Jaya Bluffs NM for a week now... But don't expect anything of value in terms of gold items as I believe I will have zero to show even after 100 runs...:D

  • they are everywhere. most items you see on legacy are from bots. even or especially the rare ones. most prominent place is certainly kaineng, but nolani, feather and all the other mats for consets, doa gems, HoH, random arenas, even ectos, obby shards, q8s in kaineng quest, CoF, raptors ... you name it. nothing is safe, everything is spoiled. most are run in english or french districts, but many also scatter across random districts so you can't track them. they do not interact at all, and you can barely reach them, before they reenter their area. as long as anet gives shit about it it is pretty pointless to farm as a casual player.

I WTB all kinds of Tower Shields and Defenders. I do drop research - if you find anything remarkable or want to see the results - check the thread or send a pm!

Unfortunately, we don't have a way to detect if something is botted, and if we could, it's "easy" to just pass it through and sell it via-via. ArenaNet really needs to tackle this.
While I would love to have a better way to police this, the reality is that we aren't the Guild Wars police because we don't have the tools to do so... but that's a whole different discussion.

The only way to stop bots, in the end, is by not purchasing from them.

Hi there! I'm the Guild Wars Legacy admin, feel free to contact me if you've got issues.

Ouch... So it's difficult to know if we are actually contributing to the bot-mafias by making in-game purchases for items, consets, zkeys, etc... Am mostly farming a few key materials for my own storage and use but I'll have to make some purchases eventually since I can't farm everything... Plus, it's pretty hard and painful... Am feeling like a zombie from just collecting 4k feathers to fill the material storage for 2 accounts, and that's an easy farm...<X

Only thing keeping me sane is the thought of finding a gold drop that would match the requirements and stats on your stat list... But I think that's making me even more stressed after 70 runs...:D

Sad that ArenaNet hasn't found a solution to the problem... Think we used to be able to report bots in the past but I was already on the verge of quitting by then... Wish there was a way to find out how many people in-game were actual players but I guess that's confidential to only a few at ANet.

O well, I can't farm everything on my own and even if some botted items do filter onto GWLegacy, I guess I can still use the WTB forum for materials and stuff if needed... Would feel more legit...:)

Cheers all, and thanks for maintaining a great forum where we can still interact with other players:love::thumbup:

That system was actually broken for a lot of years. They did fix it a few years ago.

But combatting botting in a game is hard, people will always find a way around it. It's not that ArenaNet didn't try, but even games like RuneScape have a huge issue with it.

The biggest impact you can have here is simply never buy things for real money on websites. That motivates and funds them to continue doing it. As long as there is demand, people will do it.

That's why for example you have the option to buy/sell gems in GW2 for real money/in game currency. That demand is always going to be there, but in that way, you can at least "control" it somewhat.

  • O... There are sites selling GW stuff for real world money... And there's an option in GW2 as well...8| I'm really out of touch with these games... O well, I've had my fair share of pay to win with various games over the years... Back to the old grind and using in-game currency is mighty fine for me...^^

Hmmm... Wonder what the stuff I sold earlier might have been worth in real world currency...:P

On a side note, I just helped a new player (9 hours into the game) get through Zen Daijun and they have a guild of three... Directed them to GWLegacy as well...

You don't *have* to wait to get the skill, just have someone with the proof already help you out by zoning in with you, then get your own during anni so you can use it for your other characters whenever.

Well, I'm at GMT+8 and my guild as well as alliance is dead so not much chance finding a friend who would assist unless I start spamming party chat or pay to get it done:) Not in a rush to get the skills anyway, plus it gives me something fresh to look forward to... Don't think I've played many Anniversary Celebrations:/

  • I think if u want to avoid bots, best is to avoid buying pcons or cons, most bots run them, i think weapons etc are just side product and main goal is consumables with a ton of supply

I'm able to farm and craft my own pcons and cons, but that's the main reason many players, including myself, quit the game in the past... If one has to farm the items/materials, one doesn't really have much time for other content... And consets are needed to reduce time and effort for harder areas. Catch-22...

I currently have quite a lot of time due to a pointless war having disrupted work so am currently sitting on 5k worth of feathers and iron as well as 2.2k bones from about a week of farming one single area...|| Still need to work on dusts as well as more bones so eventually Gates of Kryta a bit later and hopefully a big 'wish' for a good Dead Bow or Sephis drop, which would mean doing it in HM...=O

Guess a conset stack would last a few months with casual gaming? During that time, there's a little hope for a few good drops that's worth at least 15 arms for a bit of profit as well as to purchase the next stack on the market otherwise it's back to the grind again...

I have over 6 stacks of arms on my main account so I'm not really worried about running out of consumables any time in the near future... Been trying to play my second account as a newbie and I can feel the grind even with a lot of support from my main.

I'm not against botting as it is needed for some things due to the horrible drop rate mechanics of the game, and I will purchase consumables from some unknown character regardless of whether it is a gamer or from the bot mafia when it is urgently needed... After all, if bots have become the majority in-game, then I guess they RULE...

Just wish ANet would actually tweak the drop rate system a bit... Why is it that favor gives more gold drops (mostly worthless btw), but not the materials or items for crafting?

Why not just allow the mobs to have a chance of dropping an item AS WELL AS crafting materials during favor for example?

O well, it's an old game... Shouldn't complain too much...^^

Ps... I'm really curious as to what type of item drops these bots get and whether they just trash them or some do end up on the open market...:/
