GWGlobal on Discord (Open Beta): Party Search, Price Check, Kama Log And More...

  • Hello awesome people of Guild Wars Legacy! We're going public with our Discord server: Guild Wars Global, or GWGlobal for short. There are a bunch of features here that were created with the purpose of making it easier to do things like find/form groups, perform price checks, monitor the kamadan trade chat log, get information on daily quests, events, nick sets, etc.

We already have over 350 users and will be seeking to encourage greater usage of this platform for connecting players throughout Guild Wars.
Edit: The server has grown quite rapidly and we now have over 850 users as of Feb 9 2017.

Here are our links: https://discord.gg/RpuJFKF (or https://discord.gg/hm7X6Cs or https://discord.gg/KnjgCkS).

Okay so what exactly does GWGlobal have:

    • Party search and matchmaking system: Fully automated, lots of features like timing your run, seeing other people's IGN, etc.
    • Price check: Gives you the first 5 results from, currently powered by https://kamadan.decltype.org/ but will work independently in future.
    • Kamadan trade chat log: A real time feed of Kamadan trade chat with recent duplicates removed. Powered by https://kamadan.decltype.org/ as well.
    • Additional information tools: Gives you information on things like zaishen daily quests, nicholas the traveler location and items, nick farm guide, weekly bonus, special events. For each of this there's a countdown timer so you no longer have to perform pesky time conversions by yourself.
    • Skill builder: Allows you to ping skills which will be displayed as a skill bar, similar to what it looks like in-game.
    • PvX build search: Allows you to ping skill bars from PvX wiki.
    • PvX team build search: Allows you to ping team skill bars from PvX wiki. All the skill bars are put together into one image. It's awesome.
    • Wiki search: Allows you to search Guild Wars wiki. You'll get a snippet and a link to your result.

    Questions And Answers
Why use Discord?: Very popular with gamers, has text and voice features, easy to create tools with, anti-spam and anti-troll features are pretty extensive, low barrier to entry as anyone can run it from a browser with no installation at all.
Why join?: Gathering place for Guild Wars players, find help, join groups, awesome tools.
Is this really going to work?: We'll see. The whole idea here is that even if we don't get enough players to make the whole party-search thing feasible, at least there are enough tools to make your gaming experience a better one.
Why not use the Guild Wars Legacy Discord?: When I first started this, I needed my own server with full ownership rights to effectively test and debug the Discord bot. Right now a lot of the code is server-dependent so it cannot be easily moved over to the GWLegacy Discord. We also have a sizeable population now on GWGlobal and it will not be possible to move everyone over. Also, I think GWLegacy Discord serves this community here which may or may not like the introduction of these automated features.

Again, here are our links: https://discord.gg/RpuJFKF (or https://discord.gg/hm7X6Cs or https://discord.gg/KnjgCkS).

If you have any problems joining just let me know. It should be as easy as just clicking on the link and registering a Discord account if you don't have one, or logging in if you do. If the link doesn't work, just add the server manually using this link. To add a server manually in Discord, simply click on the + button at the left-most column where all the servers are listed. This + button is located at the bottom, i.e. below all the servers. Click on it and you can choose Join Server. Then enter one of our links to join.

    Cheers!

  • If those numbers are to be correct (which with all the respect I doubt) and with all those features already implemented this feature could indeed reversal and bring a small revolution to the rest of the community that still thrive in this game.

There would be no reasonable assertion from Guild Wars Legacy to not jump into the idea and make this discord the official one.

Surely it wouldn't expand the core, but would be make remaining PvE player base a lot more interesting almost copycatting the starting conditions of the game itself, with potential players being able of joining parties and making Missions and Quests together instead of doing with heroes, regardless of Guild's extension and Alliances too.

Not only that with all the teaching and mentoring that has been done lately bringing the PvP & PvE state of the game together this tool could also boost the current phenomena.

If GWL bought this idea, it wouldn't be a bad thing to implement this scheme into TeamQuitter too and ask them gently to join the fry, that would be beneficial for each and every person in this forsaken game.

From that point, making it the official discord server also in Reddit and Facebook pages we could see a little but enjoyable insurgency in Guild Wars again.

Imagine, having 300-400 persons online daily?! What ya think Kevin? One can dream ;)

  • I'll have to take a good look into this soon :) However, I'm currently quite swamped in things I have to do (both work-related as in my private life). While I would love to check out everything directly, I fear I no longer have that time :P

This looks like something really neat though and I'll look into it this evening :). The current discord for Legacy is quite active and is more a chat - it hasn't got any other features.
I wouldn't mind merging the Discords though, as I'm not able to keep an eye on both the Legacy site and the Discord ;).

So yes, I do encourage this and I think merging would be a great idea - renebulous, I'll get in touch with you ;)

  • Sadness: Regarding numbers you can check it out for yourself with the command -serverinfo2, and yes, if we can get everyone together it'll be an awesome way to overcome one of the central problems with Guild Wars right now--the lack of an easy way to form/join groups and in general to find others to do stuff together. More publicity about this on Facebook etc would be great too.

@KAOS: I'm open to any suggestions! We could possibly integrate the chat bot with an LFG tool that is hosted right here on GWLegacy. There is certainly a lot more scope for improvement.

Iaerah: I am definitely all for merging. I think the Legacy Discord has been a great idea from the start. It's just a shame that uptake of both that Discord and this site has not been as high as it could be. Part of the reason, of course, is the dwindling size of the player base, but I also think some further enticement and promotion might boost participation further and I am definitely keen on that. I have also toyed with the idea of a feed for GW Legacy but there are so many things to do, so little time. We currently have a feed for the Guild Wars Reddit and creating one for Legacy will not be too difficult. I think there's quite a bit of room here for synergizing both platforms and reaping significant benefits from that.
