    Yep, the Kevin he's talking about is me.

    The world is small, isn't it, Fhaerron?

    I have a first test version of my tool ready, basically it does the following:

    • Checks if there is a ChatFilter.ini file in the folder it's running in. If not, downloads the latest version from GW Legacy.
    • If there is a file available, it downloads the header of the ChatFilter.ini on GW Legacy
    • Compares the header to the local downloaded version to check if the last edit date is different.
    • If so, it downloads the latest version from GW Legacy.
    • If not, or finished with the download, it will look for a shortcut called Gw - if found, it will launch this shortcut, so you can use the tool to launch GW - your arguments are still used.
    • If it can't find a Gw.lnk, it will look for Gw.exe and launch it.
    • If it can't find that, the tool window will stay open.

    The tool requires .Net framework 4 - I'll drop the source code when I get around to it, download is attached for the compiled version.

    Legacy Chatfilter.zip

    To install, drop the Legacy Chatfilter.exe in your GW install root.

    See what I said here:

    I think you shouldn't waste your time. What if they start using Japanese or Korean characters? What if they just make a bunch of alts stand in next to each other to form the letters?

    Just added Japanese or Korean letters to your filter would root that out immediately, unless you actively play with Japanese or Korean players that should not be too much of an issue.

    Haha yes,

    if it was simple I know you would have done it already :D

    But I guess you could try do simple tests in the background, alter the theme or maybe the "REPLY" button color.

    I guess it's easier to alter something than to create a whole new dialog warning. A red "REPLY" button would still help.

    At 1st. maybe all users see the red button, but the original poster would know the consequences of using it :D

    It would require just a slight bit less code to do that, I would still need to write the detection script so... :P

    What exactly does it do?

    Like if someone posts - "WTS GOLD ECTO AMBRACES - mmogamersmarket.com"

    Does it just filter out to look like: "WTS GOLD ECTO AMBRACES"

    I plan on using it, I am just trying to get an idea of it.

    Also I saw suppress was a command. How would this be different than filter?

    If I'm correct, it will block the entire message.

    Thanks to the excellent update of 8 May, we now have the option to filter out messages - which is really handy for RMT spam!

    How does this work?

    You'll need to create a new file in this location: C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Guild Wars (you can copy and paste that location in your explorer - it will work) with the name of ChatFilter.ini

    You can then fill up your file as following:

    Code
    [ChatFilter]
    userFilter1=mmosky.com
    userFilter2=gw2sale.com
    userFilter3=GW2SàLè.com
    userFilter4=mmogamersmarket.com
    userFilter5=MMOGäMERSMARKÉT.COM
    userFilter6=gwshop.com

    You can also download our file (which we try to keep updated) on https://www.guildwarslegacy.com/ChatFilter.ini - you can download this one and add it to this location.

    Do you want to add some entries to our file? Feel free to list them here so we can add them.

    Thanks again to Lexx for this initial list :heart:

    I do hope 15 years of technology will help solve this problem :D

    Edit: Anyway just want to make sure I wasn't ranting or complaining, I bumped my thread too early and that's just my fault.

    I was just thinking if it was possible to find a solution that maybe help prevent it.

    An alternative could simply be a dialog:

    Code
    $warningTemplate = "";
    if ( time() - $user->lastPost < 24*60*60 ) {
      $warningTemplate = showBumpWarning()
    }

    Well, my PHP sucks, I haven't done that in years, but it might just be an example :)

    I'm looking into it, I'm still studying the forum software it's extension system. Once I get the hang of it, I'll look into implementing a bump protection check.

    It's not as simple as you state here, since we'd only have the check active in a single category - complicates it a little. But it's high on the list of priorities.

    Well, as I suggested the ChatFilter to SCW in the first place, I can tell you my intention. It was just an alternative to help filter the RMT spam you see.

    My current file now:

    Documents\Guild Wars\ChatFilter.ini

    Code
    [ChatFilter]
    userFilter1=mmosky.com
    userFilter2=gw2sale.com
    userFilter3=mmogamersmarket.com
    userFilter4=MMOGäMERSMARKÉT.COM
    userFilter5=gwshop.com

    I think we should keep such file hosted here on Legacy in a sticky to quickly help filter out most of the spam bots by downloading a single file.

    New ChatFilter

    That, sir is an absolute stroke of genius. I shall enquire with the Server Monkey immediately about making this a reality.

    I like the background, however the text colors in a forum list makes it difficult to see which are read vs unread. Maybe there is a setting/suggestion on how to keep the background and change the effects of the text?

    Can you give me a screenshot of where it's really visible? I'll change it then to make it a bit easier to see.

    It looks like we're being assaulted by White Mantle - but they brought a new lick of paint for Legacy with them - this time, a lighter theme!

    Feel free to share your feedback!

    (A dark theme is also in the works but unfortunately isn't ready yet).

    - Kevin

    I've decided to reopen this thread, if there's a way we can better run Legacy, we're open for that feedback and in fact welcome it.

    That being said, I've tried to read into what happened, and I would like to clarify a few things: the rules are there to make sure we can take action, but in any rule there's a bit of wriggle space, which is decided by the moderator - while they might make mistakes, in the case I believe you're referring to, feels like a correct edit to avoid the thread going off the rails - boards like the Xunlai Marketplace require a bit more strict handling of rules, because of the nature of the discussions.

    Another thing I would like to note is that all edits to posts are saved in our system and we can easily revert back to the original post if the need for that is there - when you find that unjust action has been made, please contact me or another mod so we can take a second look.

    This is something which rarely happens, but the possibility is there and we take this option seriously.

    I can understand your suggestion why mods would not be allowed to edit posts, but to have healthy discussions it's often needed to intervene in small details and on it's own, that's fine - things can derail quite easily if left free. For that reason, we (and almost all other forums) allow moderator editing.

    Not to control you or change what you said (that's something that we are completely against), but to make sure discussions stay a bit on track.

    Deleting a post is often not the right reaction to it (though, in this case, that might have been a better option instead) as some posts often have some merit that makes that they should still be there - in those cases, it's in my opinion better to edit some out and leave the rest standing.
    Deleting a post is closer to censure than what I would like and we leave the edits of posts to the bare minimum and delete/change only what is truly necessary.

    Don't hesitate bringing me into it (by tagging me or starting a conversation with me) if you feel an action taken was unjust - we take these serious and you'll get feedback :)

    We haven't had any database breach as far as I'm aware (and I should be).

    The information stored in our database is also encrypted (I've gone ahead and double-checked the source code) is being encrypted with bcrypt and is double salted.

    If you know anything about cryptography, that's extremely strong encryption and non-reversible (and since it's salted, rainbow tables are out of the question).

    Even if you got access to our database, you'd still need to crack the passwords and because of the strong encryption that's going to take you several hundreds of years - ofcourse, if you have a weak password or reuse passwords, you're going to have a bad time.

    Check yourself on https://haveibeenpwned.com - this will show you if your password has been leaked in different hacks. If you've used the same password on one of these sites, it's likely that the hacker has succeeded in getting the information from there. From what I can see, your e-mail is listed and the password you used on that site has been leaked (in MD5, takes only a few minutes to hack this, and it might have been unsalted which makes it take only seconds).

    Long story short: you probably got hacked elsewhere and the hackers used your password + email to log in.

    For the same reason, Guild Wars Legacy has disabled the public showing of character names - in fact, we no longer store these (since our transfer to a new forum software) to make it harder for people to get to your character names, making it tad bit harder to get logged in on the accounts of other people.

    Always use a unique password for Guild Wars that you use only for Guild Wars and nowhere else - and make sure that it is strong.

    I regret that your account got hacked, but I can say, with certainty, that it was not Guild Wars Legacy that was the reason you got hacked.

    Hello everybody - you've been asking for it, and today we're proud to announce that we've added support for WSC-Connect, which allows you to hook up Guild Wars Legacy on your smartphone and easily check on things on your smartphone and receive notifications!

    In order to get started, you need to grab the Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/det…wsc-connect.com (currently not yet available for iOS).

    Once installed, search for Guild Wars Legacy, log in using your details (this is safe), and you're ready to go!

    If you've got questions, feel free to ask them here.

    Kevin

    Hello everybody,

    Just a technical heads up that Guild Wars Legacy has switched on DNSSEC and that we've, at the same time, moved to another domain provider.

    This should have no impact, but should you experience any issue, please let us know here.

    - Kevin

    This screenshot feature has been around for years. Can't tell whether it worked like that in the first years, because I did not play back then. :)

    As far as I know, it has always been this way.

    Used to be GW saved screenshots in BMP by default, easily took about 10 seconds for a screenshot back then :P - loading all full 3D models and the heavy file format was taxing back then.

    Any news?

    Would love to see it making a return as well.
    Hey Kevin, feeling better yet? I heard you had a recent experience with a team of big Turkish masseurs lol.

    There is some news, but it's that I haven't had any time to look into it so far - however, it's not the biggest of work but I took a small break from the interwebs to focus on my health for a while - with results.

    I'll try to do it as soon as possible, you'll hear from me when it's done.

    Hello everybody,

    We've been thinking and pondering (and I fell ill), but here are the results of our Wintersday Contest:

    1. Black Beast and Zippy's Bowling Journey -> Skill Pins/badge set
    2. New Raid Boss - General Knoxx -or- Weirdest Rush Hour I Have Ever Been In... -> Miniature Grawl
    3. /!\ Ooze invasion /!\ -> Miniature Grawl.

    We'll be contacting the winners as soon as possible to hand out the prizes - trophies will be given out as soon as possible (this is done automaticly).

    I do however have to note that some entries were disqualified due to them being Photoshopped (which goes against the rules of this contest).

    Due to this, and the fact that we didn't have that many submissions, we lovered the amount of prizes that we're giving away - we've opted to start running more smaller contests on a near-monthly basis instead of organizing 1 big contest a year.

    Well done all,

    A very sick Kevin.

    my only problem with PayPal is they're requiring me to make an account with them which I do NOT want to do for the recurring subscriptions.

    I'm subscribed to another service that uses PayPal as a payment processor, and while they charge me yearly, I did NOT have to make an account with PayPal to do so.

    I am NOT a fan of PayPal and their business practices :/

    We've also got a different donation service hooked up, but it's not yet on the new forum: https://donorbox.org/guild-wars-legacy

    This uses Stripe :)

    Kev

    The end of the Year of the Rooster is dawning and the year of the Dog is lurking.

    Join us in joining the Canthan Empire in welcoming the Year of the Dog with the first contest on our new website.

    You've read it correctly - Guild Wars Legacy is joining in in the fun with the Canthan New Year and we're running our first new contest - feel free to join in the fun!

    What can you win?

    Most important ofcourse is - what can you win? For this contest we've set something special aside:

    * A Miniature Grawl code

    * A set of Guild Wars badges (you can only get these from us now!)

    Every winner will also gain 3 months with no ads on Guild Wars Legacy and will get the trophy associated with this contest.

    Please note that these prizes can change and depending on the amount of contestants we might increase the prize pool.

    What do you need to do?

    Well, with a Canthan New Year belongs a ton of alcohol... like rice wine! Enjoy the local delicacies, I'd say!

    When slightly imbibed with copious amounts of alcohol, you might get some slips of the tongue. Like for example, Molotov Cock-Trail instead of Morostav Trail.

    What we want you to do for this contest is ruin a Canthan name, either be it a place name / the name of an NPC or a skill name.

    You'll need to list what you've made fun of and provide a link to the official wiki.

    The funniest ones, or the ones that crack us up the most, will win a prize.

    Judges for this contest are Iaerah , MaxBorken , Emma , cosyfiep, Anssa and Marty Silverblade - though the others in the Legacy Team can join in.

    When will this contest run?

    This contest will run between the 1st of February until the 25th of February. We'll try to post the winners as soon as possible.

    How to participate?

    Reply to this post with your entry, and add the Wiki link to what you're referring to.
