Guild Wars 1 dead, reforge not brought magic 🪄

  • I played this game over twenty years ago I loved it, could solo fissure of woe and underworld my build was epic I came back few days ago to say disappointing is an underestimate. There is no community no chat it's dead as everyone runs about using henchmen to do things solo or PvP. Can you not have a looking for group system or something to get everyone rejoining or playing fresh to come alive support each other and have fun it's the most loneliest, solitude sad game and I thought it would be great returning. Yes things change look at candy cane even those stats changed I played for 7000 hrs before quit I had epic memories. I wouldn't mind but after 12pm GMT it's dead ....ooh the good ol' days!

    Ok so if you all think I'm wrong go to all the main areas where crowds are and watch for anyone talking or asking for a group. Nada. Yes some people like to play solo but the game is way harder to solo even with well geared henchmen. I feel sorry for newbies joining they will struggle.

    So I dare everyone now on chat it's feckin Christmas talk to each other break the ice ask for fow or underworld groups throughout the night until areanet put that facility on the game and bring this game fully back to life.

    Changed the title of the thread from “Guild Wars 1” to “Guild Wars 1 dead, reforge not brought magic 🪄”.
  • I have to say that I agree. The people keeping the game alive are the people who've become accustomed to solo-play. One of the irreplaceable strengths of the GW experience, however, was not only the fact that you could find a group, but the NEED to find a group. What is an MMO without other players?

    People joining GW for the first time will be encouraged to go through the game with heroes, and that is sad, frankly. If that it is how my experience is going to be after returning, I have to pass..

  • Then let's all change it, talk loudly every second on and make groups, have fun, reminiscing on good times and how to get it back. Solo is solitude which kills a game if done all the time.

    This game used to be better than WoW I think if everyone including areanet made an effort it could be again. Hell I would pay a subscription charge for some improvements.

    It also feels like somehow in-game currency is being sold somehow not just from some dodgy site.

  • That won't work, Silverfoxy. The general flow of gameplay in an MMORPG is literally never the product of player-agreement. It is the product of mechanics. If players are allowed to take the path of least-resistance ( ie. using heroes), they will.

  • maybe something constructive: the district you are in matters. most people play in american, european english or international districts - you might want to check around. also with reforged they added a tickbox on party search to include all other language districts so you see who is looking for a group around the world. or you look for an active guild in an active alliance to even increase the range to people no matter which town they are currently in.

    party search -> p

    guild -> g

    make sure to show all chat channels by ticking especially alliance, guild, local and trade chat.

    I WTB all kinds of Tower Shields and Defenders. I do drop research - if you find anything remarkable or want to see the results - check the thread or send a pm!

  • It was the case when they introduce heroes with nightfall and Gwen. At the Time it was difficult to find random teammates to do coops… everyone was playing alone or precomp.

    i’d love to find again the prophecy atmosphere, the teleporter in Crystal desert, the free droknar run…

  • Maybe be patient as the major updates to the game haven't shipped and also the game has way more people playing again. Literally every outpost/mission has people running around.
    ZM/ZB/ZV still very active and can get in a group, join an active guild and solve the problem. I don't know why you would expect there to be pugs everywhere. Playerbase has increased by a huge amount. My YT vids get thousands of views on GW1 content now and before I'd be lucky to break 500.

  • I'm happy to see more players active in the game again since the release of Reforged. But that's also what surprises me the most. Reforged hasn't really changed anything in GW1; there have been more significant updates in recent years than Reforged. So players could have come back years ago.

    We need to give it more time for this wave to become concrete and solid. We are still in a fragile period, with an old, dusty game. And its economic system, coding possibilities and the very small team still working on the game will not allow for a GW 1.5. Just be happy that the servers are still open.

    Hell I would pay a subscription charge for some improvements.

    I'd rather die or see the server shut down permanently than see GW1 switch to a subscription model!

    I doubt they'd ever switch to a subscription service but I sure hope that this small resurgence maybe gives way to the thought that they could do new content. New content is what would really drive new players in.

    Not trying to be an ass, and would genuinely like your thoughts because I disagree. How would new content drive in new players? It’s a 20 year old game. If they aren’t playing now when there is already tons of content, what would more content add at this point for a new player?

    Promoting additional content and word of mouth could attract new players. The proof is in Reforged: there was no real new content, but the promotion was enough to bring in both old and new players.

    For veterans, if there is new playable content, they will “blow through it” in a few days at most, then return to our good old favorite habits.

    An improvement to existing content, such as a trading post, the last missing boss in an elite zone (FoW), missing attributes and weapons (weapon family), etc., would be more appropriate and realistic.

    Even with new content, it’s very hard attracting new players to very old games, unless it’s a full expansion. It mostly just brings back old players rather than fresh blood.

    It's still very low in terms of new players with Reforged, that's obvious. And expecting a large number of new players is unrealistic. That's why we shouldn't expect a new expansion or anything like that.

    These discussions about the future of GW have been going on for years, and the outcome is always the same: there are those who dream and those who don't.

    For sure, I think improving existing will do more for the long run and is much more realistic. But you’re right it can attract old and new no matter how big/small and hopefully continues to do so.

    Obviously we don’t have official metrics and never will, but it would be cool to see the breakdown of the influx of player base from old accounts logging in after so many years vs brand new fresh ones.

    At the end of the day servers are still up so happy to be part of it with yall!
