what are we thinking, fellow millennials?
Well, it's something that has never happened before in the 10+ years that Legacy has been around
So, what happened here is that 2 very critical vulnerabilities were found within PHP, which is what Legacy runs on. I investigated into what we needed/could do to mitigate it, but it became clear that the only thing I could really do is pull down Legacy completely, until the patches were available.
The official advice from PHP and security experts was to just pull your sites using PHP offline. So I did that - during the downtime, PHP was completely disabled on the server and a static error message was displayed.
Fun fact: even the status page went down due to this issue... websites from governments here went offline.
The patches were released and a few minutes later I installed them and tested things and brought Legacy back online. But yeah, it's been something and I'm still dealing with the results from this on other servers. What a day!Also, yeah... I should probably be more active on other social media as well 🤣. Last time I had to take this page up was years and years ago...
