20th Year Update Announcement

  • Hello friends!

The 20th Anniversary of Guild Wars is approaching on April 28th, 2025! This year, our annual Anniversary Celebration festival will start a week earlier than usual - beginning on April 15th and running through May 6th.

On April 15th, we're also releasing a special anniversary update that includes:

    • Permanently adding previously limited weapons to world drop tables
    • New permanent quests that reward untradeable copies of certain limited-release miniatures when you revisit classic content
    • And you'll want to keep your eyes open for some other new loot appearing as you hunt for weapons.

This is your chance to complete your collections, revisit your greatest triumphs, and hunt for exciting new loot!

We'll share more details next week. Get ready to celebrate 20 years of Guild Wars!

    EDIT - 9th April - UPDATE ON WHATS DROPPING : https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedback:…pdates/20250409

Edited once, last by Dunc (April 9, 2025 at 6:04 PM).

  • Damn, I really hoped we would've gotten some actual new content though :(
New areas, titles, skills, or game modes would’ve hyped me way more tbh. Bringing back old stuff just seems low-effort to me.

There is new content: ''New permanent quests that reward untradeable copies of certain limited-release miniatures when you revisit classic content''
The game is 20 years old. You should be happy with any updates in general, even bug fixes. Expecting expansion-level content makes no sense whatsoever.

the quest= revisting existing content, the reward= existing items.
Calling this actual new content is cope

You should've kept your expectations in check. I'm just happy we're getting anything at all tbh. Now, there is still a slight chance that these notes don't cover all of it and that there is still more to come. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

  • I didn't even see this topic before posting in: How did Guild Wars treat you today? ^^

  • I like the word permanent here. This is pretty damn exciting alright!

Big F to the miniature collectors among us. You are in our thoughts and prayers. :saint:

“Untradeable” so the tradable versions will probably still be expensive I’d imagine. Who knows which minis they will be adding to that though.

I’m pretty excited about “Permanently adding previously limited weapons to world drop tables”. Does this mean swamp clubs? max q7/8 again?! If that’s the case, same can be said to all the low q collectors “Big F to all the low q weapon collectors/hoarders” 😂

the tradable limited minis will lose a lot of value, even though they will still be useful as a currency imo.

quite the big implication for high end trades honestly.

nerfed stats will remain nerfed, its just going to be skins that will become available i would say with 99% confidence

My guess would be pre-order/bonus exclusive weapons such as the Glacial Blade, Chimeric Prism, Dragon Fangs, Ominous Aegis etc... Perhaps some china exclusive skins too.

  • Think they should have just not made an announcement 2 weeks before patch with some ambiguous information. Release notes or don't, no point letting it sit in speculation.

Uhhh, releasing teasers is a very widely used practice.

  • My guess:

Minis: Definetly not all of the limited ones as they write "certain". Which ones: I dont guess but it will certainly follow a pattern. I personally dont think it will target the "big 4", and rather ones below, but you never know.

Weapons (old): my best guess would also be /bonus (preorder etc) weapons. I highly doubt that e.g. swamp club will be returned. This is way too specific and I doubt in the OS knowledge of current anet employees.

"Other new loot": I mean this could be anything from minor to huge. Huge could mean even stuff like new consumables, new weapon skins etc. as it just says "loot".

Very excited and awesome to see this after 20y!

Hope to see many players returning to this still amazing game.

  • "untradeable copies of certain limited-release miniatures"

untradeable?! i dont think they will focus on grawls, yetis ...why should there be another "untradeable" purple mini?

it think this is for the big boys :D

    niceeee

25th or 50th anni ultra limited non tradeable miniature *of your character* would be epic.

Like for completion of ultra gwamm every title or something.

(Just a future idea... in case anyone from anet is laughing at these threads in ninja mode)

I actually think it could be the opposite:

Those few nerfed drops don't require that much special knowledge. It's a few skins that you can easily find out with a little research (if thats even necessary in the first place, we're talking about the company that created the game) and thats it.

Pre-order items on the other hand would set kind of a weird precedent: They are items that you could never get from gameplay, tied to buying a special version of the game. First of all they would kind of compromise the sales of the (admittedly only really remaining single set of) bonus items you can get on their online store. And second, where would anet draw the line? It would be arbitrary if not ALL of the bonus weapons were added. And then why stop there and not make the divine aura available for everyone or make mini kuunas earnable in-game.

I'm not arguing for or against it, i just find there to be issues with that logic unless we flat out get everything that's ever been a bonus code.

  • Vizus/naga/zhed/oni etc. also werent available from gameplay once a while ago. And then they became from clicking a box.

I just doubt that some anet employee makes even that little research on prenerfs here on legacy and then adds them to the game. Bonus weapons just appear to me way more convenient and similiar to what they did with previously limited pets for an anniversary. Make them a char/acc bound greenie, done.

Anyways, Apr 15th will tell, also dont wanna argue. I just guess and even if I knew I would not tell anyone

(We were proud when we won with a RA team against an arenas team hhaaa souvenirs)

I quote myself. The more I think about it, the more I say to myself that putting back this outpost would be a roundabout way of rebuilding arenas. Because when you go up against the RA botters, they'll be crushed in less than 2 (even if the human teams aren't random). Otherwise, I don't see the point of adding this image, specifically, to this ad.

If this image has a purpose: I could think of introducing an embark-like pvp outpost :cookie:

    Chhuuuttttt, we're being watched, I feel a presence.. /doubletake

(Reddit: They changed the picture :(  )

  • look at the date of the announcement...

maybe it was an April Fool post, like they used to do back in the days :D and they posted late because they were on vacation or just overslept and forgot

maybe they hype us up and then the actual update will be the shutdown of the servers. and all those years of anet saying they want to keep gw running were just part of an elaborate cruel joke
