  • I'm cautiously optimistic. In the IGN article they mostly comment on how they want to update the game for Steam Deck and modern PC's. The new screenshots don't seem any different to me (it could be that you need to see it in real-time to appreciate it).

Also, I'm curious to see if they are going to add new ways to monetize the game - Gems anyone?

My biggest hope is that they finally ban all the cheaters, but this is probably not even on their list.

  • ArenaNet always said that Gw1 servers are only still up because Gw2 is the breadwinner, for this reason I don't see actual content being added to Gw1 as it would break the trust of Gw2 players and create a potential unhealthy competition between the two games

With that being said, quality of life updates are always a good thing, I'm just cautious and hopeful that they won't mess up the current state of the game either on the technical or on the economical side of things (thinking of gems premium currency for legacy content)

In my opinion they pushed this all in one pack because they were pleasantly surprised that Gw1 can still bring money in their pockets when they did the big sales on expansions so they're back for round 2

I had thought about it a few times. The current illegal sellers could be replaced by GW's gem system, with a major update to the store, which would offer more items, objects, etc. But this is unlikely because they would then have to maintain this site and offer additional content regularly .

Otherwise, for the rest, wait and see...

  • Source IGN (https://www.ign.com/articles/arena…-classic-mmorpg) Mango add first post?

There are also pictures from the Reforged game in the article. I don't see the difference with the current graphics :/

    • Furthermore, the price point will be lowered to $20 for the complete package for newcomers, but will be a free update for current owners of the game. A free update for all existing Guild Wars players — including free upgrades to expansions — and with a new $20 price point for new players.
    • One of the larger motivators for the Reforged edition of Guild Wars was to build upon support for the game on Steam Deck

Like Max, I forgot where I saw that but it would be a new strategy decision for them to shift away from this model

Sorry I wasn't specific - I understand that they share servers, but I don't understand how this would break the trust of GW2 players? I don't play GW2 so I don't know anything about that community base.

The current Gw2 business model is yearly-ish 30$ expansions, if those expansions end up being disappoiting or delayed meanwhile Gw1 players get new content updates, Gw2 players will inevitably feel frustrated

  • What I'd like to see is the little things that were talked about years ago, finally being implemented. Things like updating the fire animations from the expansion, and adding them to the older games. The same with running water animations and textures. Other smaller things like repositioning the NPC's so that they're like the GWEN versions, instead of just standing lifeless at the designated spots. I'm not expecting major changes to storylines or even new quests, understanding that this isn't feasible without a larger dedicated team.

i disagree, it would change the original look too much imo (especially after this long) even if it isnt consistent across all of GW.

Things have changed over the years. I think other games have proven enough that games can co-exist, even versions of the same game. With how different GW1 and GW2 are, I think it would be perfectly reasonable to create new content for GW1. They cater to a different public and if the GW1 content can be created at a reasonable cost and has a good return on investment, that would only be good for both games.

I don't think that there would be unhealthy competition between the two, both can easily exist together.

This isn't exactly correct though. GW1 runs on entirely different servers than GW2 does and in fact, GW1 has been using the GW2 authentication systems for a while now. In a way, GW1 now runs on the back of GW2, technically speaking.

Both GW1 and GW2 run in AWS these days but the machines are entirely seperated, but the accounts are using a shared system (aka: the ArenaNet account, aka the GW2 system). This move was done many years ago and as a result of that, two factor authentication became possible in GW1. It was the same update that removed the requirement to list a character name to login.

The current Gw2 business model is yearly-ish 30$ expansions, if those expansions end up being disappoiting or delayed meanwhile Gw1 players get new content updates, Gw2 players will inevitably feel frustrated

Most people do understand that different teams support different products. The OSRS team and the RS3 team aren't the same and I feel like that just gives more content to play in between updates. Say that GW2 hasn't had a patch in a month or 2 and you are still waiting for the other patch, that would give you more reasons to play GW1 instead (and stagger those updates so they're always in the middle of each other).

And there will always be frustrated players, that's just the way it is, these days.

even my ex couldn't give me such a hard boner

I wholeheartedly agree that your ex could not give you such a hard boner!

That would be awesome. I did remember reading a post from Lindsey Murdock eons ago where she said that it did take quite a bit of work to do so, but this would exactly be a thing that this new team could handle. I'm glad that they are modifying the quest tracker/log, as there is room for improvement there, but I would love seeing some features of Toolbox coming to the game, like opening up your bank in a town without needing to run to the NPC and having an improved travel interface so you can travel everywhere without needing to go to a travel hub first. And what would be really neat would be that the game remembers what your party composition is, so you can restore it with a click instead of having to remember what heroes were in your party before you travelled to a place with a lower limit.

And even without new content, there are things that could probably be introduced, like an achievement system. I think everyone of us could think of so many things to improve upon, but I'm just extremely glad that this is happening. I did not see this coming at all!

i disagree, it would change the original look too much imo (especially after this long) even if it isnt consistent across all of GW.

Well, some visual updates here and there would be nice...

But yes, hopefully, one day, new content would be cool!

This is just my 2 cents but I believe that when they add the huge graphical overhaul, they'll allow for an option to play in the legacy version under the Graphics Tab (kinda like being able to turn Post Processing on and off - tho this might require a full restart of the game if and when u switch) so that players can choose to enjoy the nostalgia when they want.

    Just a hunch.

I feel it is going to be several toggles, to be honest. It doesn't seem like it's a full graphical remaster but rather a lot of rendering improvements.

"It's not a remaster, but we've really focused on modernizing the experience and reacting to the big influx of new and returning players around the anniversary, and finding all the limitations the game had with modern PCs,"

Kryth Builds You can find pictures of the graphic redesign via the thread on IGN (link to first post). It's a redesign in the sense that it adapts to 4K screens and PCs that are more recent than when GW was released, including the interface (UI), in terms of resolution (pixels). That's it, there's no need for an option to go back, it's useless.
